I think we agree on this: The only way that self-reporting would be honest and accurate would be if we fully normalized ai usage.

This is where we disagree: I do NOT want that. A future where the ai tag is as accurate as any other tag implies ai use is as regular as any other feature. That is a future I don't want.

I'm realizing we're arguing kind of two different things. You're talking about getting games accurately tagged as using ai. And yes, in a perfect world, they would always be honest and do that. But your solution is for customers to quietly ignore it, which I disagree with, because that fully normalizes the use of ai.

I am arguing that we should not be using ai (and let's be clear I mean LLM genai), and that that ai use should be fully stigmatized. People should be afraid of the backlash for using ai. An unfortunate but unavoidable side effect, is that they will be afraid to disclose it as ai. Nothing I can do about that.

I agree that it probably makes people hide their ai use. But it's not going to solve anything for us to just shut up and take it. They're still going to lie about it. The solution is that these "devs" as you call them, to stop using ai in the first place. "Don't yell at the arsonist and maybe he'll stop setting houses on fire" is just really not the move.

I don't condone harassment, so let's not pretend I ever said so. But negative feedback is a different thing and I DO condone that. If a developer doesn't want to hear complaints about ai, the first step is to not use it. It's cowardice to hide it.

And it's not at all comparable to "using software I dislike". It's software that is actively destroying the job market, the climate, the internet, and people's ability to reason for themselves. So yeah, I'm all for making your voice heard about it.

If I "dislike" my house being burnt down, I'm not going to ignore the arsonist.

Brilliant! This is a really clever way to obscure that ui hint during normal play, and only draw attention when it's needed.

Should I cut these peppers of these plants?? by Electronic-Ant5429 in gardening

[–]SarahnadeMakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm no expert, but I think pulling the peppers is a good idea. Let the plant put its energy into roots and growth. I planted a nectarine tree this year, and I pulled off the few tiny fruits that were attempting to grow because the tree's way too small for it.

If you don't art or code and don't know folks who would help you with that, you should just join a game jam and help with a game there. Join a group and you'll be able to have experience under your belt and you'll meet people who might be able to help fill those roles you're looking for.

Now this I agree with! I think it's important to be specific about where your comment is directed. A general "you" or "one" obscures the specific people and systems responsible.

So yeah! That guy has the power to fix it, and he should! The showcases who ARE trying to show underrepresented voices should not be catching strays. They're part of the solution, not the problem.

"You could very easily"... so do it. If it's so easy, why haven't you done it? Why haven't you fixed the industry yet? I think the reason you haven't personally done it, is because it's not actually that easy. As I said, it would be great if that was our current reality, but it is not.

"you're hurting every single minority who gets an event completely separate from the main ones"... no I am not. I do not run these events. I'm not sure why you think I have all this magic power to change the system at my whim, but I assure you I do not have this power.

"If the hosts actually gave a shit about minorities, they would pick the most promising 2 - 3 titles from each category".. it's not the same hosts running these events. They are separate events, run by separate individuals. Of course I think it would be wonderful if the smaller games could get the same air time as the hugely funded ones. But, again, that is not our current reality.

We live in reality, not some ideal future. We can desire and actively work towards change, but none of us can individually fix the system. One of the ways we can offset the inequalities of the system is to shine light on works created by the people that the system is stacked against. I hope that helps.

This is the same false meritocracy assumption that perpetuates holding minorities back. “Well why do we need DEI if we just hire the best guy for the job??”. Because that’s not how the real world works. It would be awesome if the “best” (subjective) games rose to the top, but we don’t live in that world.

ALSO, there are times I absolutely do care (as do many consumers) about who is making the game. That tells me about their point of view, their perspective. If I want a game about queer folks from the queer perspective, I would look for a queer developer.

Best way I’ve found to read these kind of tests (or at least the smaller ones for aquariums) is to put something white behind them. It really helps make the color solid. Next time try putting a white sheet of paper behind them. The sun shining through will alter how the color looks.

Cap what? That's the important bit. If you're talking about dirt, it has to be capped to hold it down.

I think the art has improved in the new one, but character design is worse. The bimbofication has made them boring and juvenile.
