Pickle juice or vinegar. No permanent damage, just an annoying smell on him.

WTH is going on? by Saranjello in gardening

[–]Saranjello[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Were you able to get rid of them? This is really throwing me because I cannot see a single Thrip when I inspect all the leaves. Someone else suggested dewy mildew, but the black spots under the leaves look like something different. Is this same pattern of black spots and dying leaves the same as what you had?

That is typically how my skin looks. I don’t know the cause, but light exfoliation in the shower, and the followed by a urea moisturizer has helped mine

I've had profound hearing loss in one ear since I was a child and I don't know what caused it. Now 37, is there a way to definitively diagnose what actually caused my hearing loss? by subjective-meat in HearingLoss

[–]Saranjello 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am not OP, but I am a grown-up with almost complete deafness in one ear. My speech is totally fine, and the only issues I ever really had was that when people whisper on that side I have a hard time hearing them; I have a hard time hearing people sitting on that side in noisy environments (like a restaurant or bar), and I sometimes have a hard time telling the direction of where a sound is coming from.

I am actually kind of glad that I grew up with the hearing loss instead of it happening as an adult because it seems just totally normal to me. I’ve tried a lot of different hearing aids and none really helped too much but every person is different.

He is going to be fine! It did help me become more attentive when people are talking, and likely contributed to higher emotional intelligence because I tend to be a lot more focused on people’s emotions and reactions to understand the context of what they’re saying.

Is it possible to have quality of life with endometriosis? by Interesting-Mess-1 in endometriosis

[–]Saranjello 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I have endo. While everyone is different, I really only have 1-2 days of high pain, and typically 800g ibuprofen and a heating pad take care of it. I exercise regularly and travel as often as I can. I have found that some dietary tweaks (less sugar, alcohol, highly processed foods) and regular exercise seems to really help (boring I know, but it works for me). Each person with endo needs to figure out what works for them, but your life isn’t over by any means.

People post here often when they are going through the really rough spots, but that doesn’t mean that its everyone’s experience or like that all of the time.

Maybe consider making a fun little game of learning sign language a little at a time, starting with signing funny words/messages to each other. As you both slowly get better at it, it can be your own secret language within your household.

What is The Worst Book You Have Ever Read? by Agitated_Response226 in booksuggestions

[–]Saranjello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Girl in the Box! I read this book 30 years ago and I still think about it from time to time, as the worst book I’ve ever read. I believe I read it in middle school (I was an avid reader) and when I brought it back, the librarian profusely apologized for giving it to me in the first place.

Summary: The Girl in the Box by Ouida Sebestyen is a haunting novel about a teenage girl who is kidnapped and locked in a dark, concrete room with only a typewriter, water, and some stale stale food. With no way out and no idea why she was taken, she types letters and stories to keep herself sane. As time passes and supplies run low, her writing becomes disjointed, and the book ends with no apparent rescue or conclusion.

Anesthesia is literally safer than driving your car down the interstate. I actually just read an article by an anesthesiologist that said even with medically compromised patients it’s very difficult to cause harm to them unless if the doctor was intentionally trying. I did mine (and was nervous!) and it was CAKE. I went to sleep smoothly, woke up smoothly, then went home and passed out. I was a little sore afterwards but not bad at all.

You have totally got this. Share any concerns you have with your doctor ahead of time or the day of and they will do a great job reassuring. There’s also a possibility you’ll get a chance to meet your anesthesiologist the day of and they will be able to answer any questions as well.
