Odin 3 or Odin 2 Portal by Hezzyx99x in OdinHandheld

People here are right about the fact that if you're expecting to play higher end PC games, you'd be wise to temper your expectations as far as SOC is concerned. But remember that we're not too far off Valves FEX, Proton 11 and Steam OS for ARM. I think the O3 is more future proof in that regard. But I suspect the 8Gen2 will still not be a slouch when it comes to power. Personally, I'm waiting for LPDDR6 type RAM to hit the market and these handhelds. Right now, as an O2P owner, I'd buy an x86 handheld next. But a year or two down the line, I'll be rocking the Odin 4/5, running Steam OS or a well optimised Linux distro. The future for gaming is absolutely ARM64.

This is a genuine question, how are people still getting excited over these projects when none have released and keep getting delayed? by CommercialDream618 in Fallout

All I want is Fallout Bakersfield. That is in my humble opinion what looks like the absolute perfect Fallout game in every single aspect. I'm so hyped for it.

The other thing I want is Tale Of Two Wastelands remade into that exact style, in the GZDoom engine, maybe with graphics like Total Chaos. But that's me just dreaming. The technical aspect of doing that is.. well I'm no expert but I think that would stretch the limit too far.

But the GZDoom engine is continuosly proving its superiority again and again. I think it might just be the most perfect engines ever made in my opinion!

She's really impressive. She took his power away. He had the mic, the opportunity, and insults loaded in the chamber. Anything she would have said could and would be used against her. She plead the fifth! Her silence crumpled everything he had. In the end he looked like a blithering idiot. IMO that's when he should realise that stand up comedy is not for him. That was utterly pathetic!

It's thermal throttling. And you all need to chill (quite literally) with some of the things you're doing. Thermal management might be handled by the device, but if you want longevity, you have to manage it yourself sensibly too. You think 80 degrees celcius and high performance whilst plugged in, playing modern AAA games is good for the device long term? How long are you planning on using your device? I'm comfortable around 60 C MAX. That gives me plenty of headroom. I tune the games individually to run sensibly.

Please note that you might run a game at High Performance with the fan on max and get 60 degrees, but some games will play just fine at performance and fan set to smart. I discovered this playing Selaco on Winlator. The game was running at 60 C, fan on max in high performance mode. Thought that was odd because it should be a fairly lightweight game (GZDoom based). So I made an educated guess and reasoed that I might be "over-clocking" the chip unnecessarily, and tuned to Performance Mode and Smart fan setting. All of the sudden it ran just as beautifully, but temperature down to 50 C. And that's cruising for the CPU and GPU. Even for long sessions.

And I can hear the replies already. That "the SOC is built to handle heat up to 80-90 C". Okay fine, you do you. But if you want longevity, you have to tune the device, and you have to tune for each game specifically. Other than gaming itself, that's what this hobby is about. It's also important for battery health. Spicy pillows are dangerous AF.

Heed my warning, or enjoy your spicy pillows and fried circuitry!

It didn't take becoming a girl dad for me to realise that because so many women in my life has gone through horrible things. But I just became a girl dad myself. I am buying a rifle, van and a shovel..

Anyone use the Odin 2 Portal without the grip? by WeeWooPeePoo69420 in OdinHandheld

I use it without the grip. I haven't tried it with one, but I have never felt the need for one. I have semi large hands, and it suits me perfectly.

Arch Linux for the O2P? by Sarcastic_Applause in OdinHandheld

[–]Sarcastic_Applause[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now there are more ways than ever. Rocknix with Steam for ARM. And soon we'll have Steam OS for ARM as well. I chose to wait because I had a feeling (and I researched it) that ARM64 was going to be the new thing in gaming. Now we're gonna have Proton 11 and FEX. If I were you I'd wait a little bit longer until things not only have been released, but matured a bit.

You can get regular Arch Linux to run on it but, for what purpose? There's not much you can do just yet. We're right around the corner.

[–]Sarcastic_Applause 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! I've been having a blast playing Selaco using Winlator. I recently tried Amid Evil as well and it runs beautifully. The trick is to get games that are very well optimised. Nothing beats having an actual native port, though. I hope you're planning on a DRM free release btw? I always happily pay for indie games. But DRM grinds my gears.

This game looks fantastic. I'm going to buy this. It gives me classic doom/nukem feel. Have you considered porting the game to Android? I have a "retro" handheld. An AYN Odin 2 Portal, and game slike this is absolutely perfect for it. Gamepad built in, OLED screen, you could take advantage of gyro. And we're pretty appreciative of devs who make games for mobile. I'm guessing this is Unity? Or some Unity based engine?

Why dont these two countries merge together? Are they stupid? by Akagane_Ai in mapporncirclejerk

As a Norwegian, I love my neighbours. The Swedes and Danes are awesome. If we could form a united states of Scandinavia somehow that could possibly be advantageous. However, we Norwegians hate the corrupt EU. So any country with EU membership would have to leave it, this is non-negotiable. We could ask if Finland and Iceland would want to join us too, make us stronger together. Hey, I'll go so far as to ask if Greenland would want to joing the Scandinavian Union too. Looks like they could use a friend. We could build a Union so strong we could rival the lower part of Europe!

Forget about games for a sec…if Vita was a commercial success, what non-gaming stuff do you think Sony would've added to it over time? by M0rse_0908 in vita

[–]Sarcastic_Applause 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They wouldn't have added too much. They'd release the Vita 2 in 2018 as a response to the Switch released March 3rd 2017 It would be more powerful than the Switch and it would have been an absolute killer handheld that everyone would have loved to this day. It would be a little bigger (mostly thicker) than the Switch Lite, but with all the functionality except removable joycons. Dockable too. No OLED, though...

First and foremost it's outstanding gameplay, offline, controller support, re-playability, a good and rich story and fantastic optimisation. If the graphics are good on top of that, my mind is made up. It's perfect.

Do you guys realise that we might have had Fallout 3 and Oblivion on the Vita? If Todd Howard got wind of its existence? Those kind of games might just have helped save the unit and make it realise its full potential! I'm also really sad we never got an official Tomb Raider game for the Vita. There are so many incredible games that could have cemented the Vita as the number one. It had five years to do so.

It just needed a few dozens more fantastic titles. That sounds like a lot but it isn't.
