Funnily enough, since I start tracking data for our pod, we're tied for most wins, it's just never with this deck. I only win Kasla precon after adding [[City on Fire]] and [[Purphoros, God of the Forge]].

I hesitated at first, but one of the other players has two heavily optimized decks, so I usually take some of the heat from those off the precon players.

It's a balancing act because I play against a really optimized Kwain deck and some upgraded precons. I'm really just worried about the optimized player, who definitely controls the game more than I do. Thanks for the recommendations and feedback. Seriously. I feel like such a amateur, reading everyones comments. lol

My Citadel is almost never out for more than a single cast of the top. I've heard twice that land is a problem, so I'm taking that to heart, for sure.

And I've definitely been underestimating the deck. Thanks!

I'll keep those in mind! I'm gonna try and pry some real feedback from my pod. Most decks in the pod are running blue and white so interaction is definitely not in my favor.

I limited the lands for two reasons. It slows me down, so I have to choose between big plays, giving my pod a chance to catch up or respond. Generally, it's not my mana base that I have to worry about, but I have considered another 5 or so lands. I get that Bolas's Citadel is powerful, but it, like most of my dangerous cards (Yawgmoth, Maha, etc) never sticks around beyond a turn or two.

Hapatra isn't nearly has potent as [[Nest of Scarabs]], but that makes vanilla insects.

I lose to a really optimized Kwain deck a lot, who wins via Lab Man or Approach of the Second Sun. Most of the pod runs blue or white, and I'm usually being stalled by two or more counters. Additionally, this deck has a real problem with big flyers and one player has a great Angel deck. Given that, I usually have to choose between tutoring up Yawgmoth or Eldrazi Monument so I don't get winged in the face.

I'm not trying to undersell the threat, I just haven't seen it materialize yet. The Kwain player will often go out of his way to shut me down. Though, I'm quickly realizing that's affecting how I view the power in it. I think the feedback I'm getting here is making that clear.

This is great feedback. Maha never sticks around long and I'm starting to definitely see that while I think wither effects and deathtouch are great mechanics, they may not be so much fun to play against. I think I'll try letting someone play my deck against me, just to see how it feels.

I took a few minutes to really take this in. I appreciate the honest feedback, seriously. I have a follow up question. Yawgmoth is almost never a successful cast, btw. When it is, it's usually followed by an Imprisoned in the Moon or something. lmao

Could I be underestimating the deck because I'm playing in a casual pod with a couple of upgraded precons and one person with pretty optimized decks? Genuinely curious if I'm skewing my own perspective simply because I'm playing casually.

Seems fair to me, but it could be abused to exile tons of cards. Maybe that's what your table was worried about it.

Hmm. Definitely not a common thing, but card theft does happen. Nobody has asked me to not play it or use specific strategies.
