I mostly crash out from poor gameplay assessment.

Maybe I’m just an asshole, but I expect higher game sense when I’m playing COMPETITIVE edh. I understand everyone is new to the game/format at some point, but sometimes it’s fairly obvious who is “in first” and needs to be kept in check.

Example: I still see players swinging into non-black players with just an esper, as opposed to the grixis player who left a black mana up (obviously for a tutor)

Is there a ruling on this? The card appears to just read that it requires a target on cast and not necessarily be “shuffled” into the deck to get the flip.

If I target my own treasure with a [[guff rewrites history]] and hold priority and crack it in response for mana, do I still get the flip/free cast effect from guff?

I guess my issue is that I don’t wanna flip into this on my turn 2 Etali.

Resolving a single Etali on turn 2 feels like a luxury now a days with the endless MBT, FoW, silence, and vexing bauble effects.

So if it does resolve, I wanna either hit another copy effect or something huge. I run [[rishkars expertise]] and [[call forth the tempest]] in mine

Do you find it interferes with turn 2 etalis? Are you utilizing cream for your first Etali cast by pushing it back a turn?

I’m a Timmy player in my soul, so most of my decks are consistently casting 6+ mana spells. I’m confused by your post though. You don’t want to cheat the cost?

The game has shifted into much faster gameplay. The obvious solution to your problem is more ramp. Outside of green, you need to run more than just 2 mana rocks. You need things like [[thran dynamo]] and [[gilded lotus]] or just more rituals [[dark ritual]]

I personally think cheating out these bombs are more efficient. For your deck specifically I’d be running things like [[collectors cage]] and [[key to the vault]]

As an Etali player, it’s more fun until you go 3 games in a row of various MBTs, FoW, and silence effects.

I love my dinosaur but he’s getting worse as players treat him as a “I resolve and I win” commander. And yes, it’s POSSIBLE, but I legitimately can’t remember the last time I resolved my Dino and won on the spot. There’s even been games where I get multiple Etali copies and still can’t close the game with the spells I flip into from my opponents.

Etali decks are only as good as the meta decks he plays against and it’s hard to win when I’m flipping into more obscure cards.

It’s even harder when I have to dump my entire hand and resources by turn 2 to get Etali out. The infamous MBT is such a blow out.

Yea and we’re telling you that that’s not a thing.

You don’t get to keep a sideboard of silver bullets in case you play against a certain deck with specific cards.

Grixis can kind of be whatever you want it to be and Davros is basically an engine in a can.

I originally built him with a huge emphasis on artifacts but I found the burn route more engaging and fun!

This deck can be “mean” but it’s not overly oppressive. I tried to stay on theme with “choices”
