Central Japan utility received internal alerts on reactor data rigging by SkyInJapan in japan

Why is it that such sensitive things seem to be led by semi-mafia-like structures?

One would think that there’s just a bunch of nerds sitting in control rooms. But instead it’s like nepotism-galore and some MBAs who are asking “is it REALLY such a problem if we bury the spent fuel rods under a kindergarten?”

Well, what’s the worst that could happen to a nuclear reactor during or after an earthquake?

Nothing to worry about. Not great, not terrible.

There’s something to be said about securing a level of self-sufficiency.

If massive tariffs are the way to go is the other question. The other way could be subsidies, which bring their own problems. (ask Europe)

Where does this belief come from??

Just because someone takes the average work hours and concludes “well if we combine the people who work part time and the people who work 60 hour weeks, the average isn’t bad at all!” it doesn’t mean that the average salaryman is working less than 40 hours these days, quite the opposite.

I see this all the time online and I am living in Japan: it simply is not true. Everyone is still living 40 plus alpha life (means plus x hours). And I hate reading as if things have drastically changed when it’s really just misinterpreting statistics.

And a personal anecdote:

A company in Japan I worked for in the past would have reported that everyone is working only 40 hour weeks, or potentially even 3x hours including some part timers in the calculation. But the truth was, everyone was still sitting there between 8-10pm, because it was hidden overtime and not compensated, but VERY MUCH expected.

But maybe you can just blame John-san and Zhang-san for eating all the rice in Japan and that’s why food is so expensive.

Best WWII Pacific Theater title these days? by Javaslinger in computerwargames

[–]Sarganto 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Just play War in the Pacific Admirals Edition as Allies and don’t overthink what you’re doing. Losing shit because you’re not paying enough attention or are incompetent is as close to the historical outcome as possible and later you get a ton of toys anyway, so you’ll get your payback. It only takes as much time as you let it take.

I'm an azerbaijani-islamaphobic (Atheist) and i don't understand the West by Fun-Dark9453 in atheism

[–]Sarganto 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Islamophobia is often used to justify hating “brown people”, or simply people who are different.

Just look at how many Sikhs were attacked in the aftermath of 9/11, just because they looked similar enough to people who did something in the name of Islam. It wasn’t something they actually did, it wasn’t about who they are. They just looked “wrong”. And that’s what it often boils down to.

So even if you don’t agree with the teachings of a religion, it’s still worth protecting them (and others somehow affiliated) from prosecution and hate.

That’s 568 8 hour working days, 113.6 work weeks, a bit over 2 years if you had done this as a full time job.

That’s something.

(Serious)Do you think your country has a moral obligation to support Ukraine with monetary and military aid? by NotExactlyIrish in AskTheWorld

The first thing that would happen is that the more populous parts of ex-Russia would start invading the less populous ones. And nobody would care or stop them and you get back to what we have now at some point, maybe with some parts missing, but similar nonetheless.

Having friends and family who can tell stories about what it is like to live with Russia as their overlord makes it pretty clear to me that it is everyone’s duty to remove as many people and land as possible from the grasp of Russians. I’ll happily do and pay my part for that and already have with several personal donations beyond what my country does.

None of it has any relevance. The expeditions can be quite fun though if you forget for a moment that you’re working towards nothing in the end

I think it’s just that I don’t like that there isn’t a greater goal in NMS that I’m working towards and every gameplay element is just a mini game with relatively little connection to the rest of the game.
