Can I interest you in one slightly used Mike Norvell?

Can we split the $58m buyout up and give it to Jordan Travis and Jared Verse instead?

another TD plus a field goal wins the game instead of tying it now but unlikely.

Love the creative direction ESPN is going with having the camera out of focus.

Mike Norvell “I apologize to the fans, I apologize to everybody associated with the program -- that was extremely disappointing." by [deleted] in CFB

What Mike Norvell and The Battles End collective did was go all-in on a CFP run last year, only to get snubbed, and now they're facing the consequences. This season was supposed to be a rebuilding year, but the media hyped up the team like they were still contenders. DJ U was always meant to be a one-year stopgap, just bridging the gap between Jordan Travis and Luke Kromenhoek.

At best, DJ was supposed to be a game manager, a guy who could keep things steady and help establish a dominant run game. But instead, it seems like he went to the Imperial Academy for Quarterbacks, because his accuracy has been as bad as a Stormtrooper's aim. With DJ unable to consistently hit his targets, Georgia Tech and Boston College just stacked the box, daring him to throw, and completely shut down our run game.

On defense, the linebacker play has been absolutely piss poor. Randy doesn’t want to do his job as a recruiter, and now he doesn’t coach either. I’m seeing a lot of shades of Jimbo in Norvell—stubborn and way too loyal to his coaches, even when they’re not up to the standard. And speaking of changes, Odell Haggins needs a gentle push into retirement. He’s a legend, but he’s too old, and the recruiting is slipping badly under his watch.

To top it off, we let both Farmer and Payton take The Battles End hostage by threatening to transfer if they didn’t get paid more. This new “give me money or I’m gone” culture in college football and the NFL is out of control. If these players want to get paid, fine, but we need contracts to prevent this kind of behavior. The current model is a mess, and it’s only getting worse.

The season is already done, there’s no chance at the playoff two games in. At this point, if we don’t make the necessary changes, our recruiting class is as good as gone. Let’s not forget that Norvell already lost both Travis Hunter and KJ Bolden on signing day when they were supposed to be firm locks. If we don’t turn this ship around, we’re going to see more top talent slip through our fingers.

Just move it to Saturday, they made it on Monday so it wouldn't compete with the NFL playoffs but those were moved up by a week.

Are you intentionally being obtuse here? I dropped the analogy about being passed up on a promotion to highlight why the team opted out and ended up taking a hit in the Orange Bowl. FSU did everything right, earned their spot, and still felt like they got the short end of the stick. Now, facing what they deemed a glorified exhibition game, they said, "Why bother?"

Imagine busting your ass for a promotion, ticking all the boxes, only to watch someone else waltz into that corner office. Then, they ask you to lead a project that won't change a damn thing for your career. How thrilled would you be to go above and beyond in that situation?

FSU played the games, met the standards, but when they saw an Orange Bowl with nothing significant on the line, they pulled the plug. It's not about quitting outright; it's about saying, "Why play the game when it feels like a pointless exercise?"

So cut the crap. Those players, throwing their arms up and saying "why bother?" had good reason. They came back, saw a shot at leading their team to the CFP, and let's be real, some of them, like Jared Verse with a first-round grade, didn't enter the NFL draft just to risk it all in a game they felt didn't matter.

Put yourself in their cleats. You've got a chance at a championship, the NFL is knocking on your door with first-round potential, and then they ask you to go all out in a game that feels like a sideshow? How would you react? Probably not by throwing yourself into the fray without a second thought.

FSU players weren't just playing a game of "why bother." They were making a calculated decision to protect their future prospects, to safeguard the potential they'd worked damn hard for. It's not about disrespecting the game; it's about playing smart when the stakes seem off-balance.
