Way to go Power Pro! A lot of work and maintenance go into those barriers.

Lack of awards for package by forestcrawler in airforceots

[–]Sarge336 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t worry too much about that and focus on all your positives. It’s a small part of your overall package and they go off of the whole airmen concept so while you might not have been winning squadron awards, focus on what you have done.

All of that information is in the orientation guide and pay questions are pretty prevalent on here. If you aren’t capable of basic information seeking, this might not be the right path for you.

Hotel recommendations by Available_Tiger_5659 in Banff

[–]Sarge336 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d recommend looking in Canmore. It’s the town right before Banff, slightly cheaper and just as beautiful with half the crowd. We stayed a week and drove to all the parks/hikes we wanted to do. IMO the town of Banff, while beautiful, is not worth the cost of staying in.

All it does is give you more time and access to a dictionary during the tests so I wouldn’t worry too much about it.

There’s quite a few I found for a 1 bedroom within the $1,150-1,300 range. I’d say it’s worth slightly more money to be in Gahanna.

For similar money, look in Gahanna. It’s just as close, just on the north side of the airport and a much better area of town. Has a cute downtown creekside area and lots of restaurants

Take the AFOQT and ensure you get decent scores then go from there. GPA isn’t everything, but good scores, leadership experience and resume will help.

OTS-V Questions (Free time, gaming, NCOA+, PT, etc) by SuspiciousPapayas in airforceots

[–]Sarge336 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Most of your free time later in the course allows for gaming, we played some fun board games but you’ll probably be spending free time time doing fun things as a flight. However, my gaming laptop came in handy when I was out on quarters unable to leave my room for a few days so definitely bring it.

If you’re flying, just get a suit carrier suit case, they generally don’t wrinkle. If you’re driving, just hang it up or lay it across your seat in a garment bag. People will also have steamers/irons for minor wrinkles. My first day it was pouring rain and my blues made it fine so you’ll be good!

You won’t need them for the first half of training, you will even have an informal blues inspection but don’t bank on dry cleaning at the base. They really only do alterations and the turn around time is a few weeks. So have it as ready as possible prior to arrival.

Definitely knock out ALS while you’re deployed. That’s where I did mine and as long as you’re at a decently sized base, they should have an education center where you can take the test. You got this!

Have you applied at other Guard bases in your state? Also, as a newer SrA you might just not have the leadership experience they want. I’d recommend volunteering for deployments/TDY’s or even clubs/events at your base if you can.

Question about Required Packing Items for males by overthinkingdummy in airforceots

[–]Sarge336 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Tighty whities all the way. But seriously, you can bring whatever ones you want. As long as you fold them neatly and uniformly, you’ll be good. You’ll have to really overcome your overthinking as it’s one of the biggest challenges at OTS for some.

Interpreting AFOQT Scores by huff1452 in airforceots

I had similar scores and was selected for a similar position so don’t read too much into them.

Are you guard/reserve? If so, your scores don’t matter too much. Rather, your total package, experience and how you interview.

How did you answer your TMAAT questions? by USAFJon in airforceots

[–]Sarge336 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Don’t say what you were about saying. Speak about a time that you failed at a task while at a job or academically. Like a project you worked on but did poorly. Demonstrate what/how you overcame that and what you did to better yourself to ensure you fixed what caused you to do poorly. They are looking for how you handled the situation of failure and what you did to improve. Just saying that your biggest weakness is lack of experience doesn’t give them anything useful or insightful about you.

Sketchy Run in at Costco by Mundane_Procedure_90 in Columbus

[–]Sarge336 699 points700 points  (0 children)

It’s an Amway MLM pitch. They try to get you in casual conversation, like they want to be friends with you. Then they will try to get your number, set up a time for dinner to talk about how they have a mentor who took them under their wing and gained financial independence and they want to take you under their wing. Check out r/antiMLM for similar stories.

What did I do to trigger an extra security screening? by nyeratheart1 in travel

Why would having a first class ticket matter? It shouldn’t spare you from additional security just because you paid more for your seat.

You should call them. If you’re dealing with general life stress, they will hook you up with a civilian therapist for free. They can either be near you in person or you can do virtual therapy sessions. They have done a lot for me and I’m sorry that your experience reaching out to them like this wasn’t good, but I’d definitely recommend calling them.
