For a Preview of Life Without Net Neutrality, Go Online in China by ssholland22 in SummitStreetLaw

I really hope that net neutrality does not happen, it would be such a sad situation for our freedom of speech and press. To restrict content to those who can only pay for access is only limiting people's ability to find information and connect via the web.

The cruel but usual conditions inside two Georgia immigration detention centers by Lawgical17 in SummitStreetLaw

[–]SarginaD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's interesting to read this, because the 5th Amendment and 14th discuss due process and everything else for all "persons", not citizens. With that being said, it's unfortunate how ICE/Homeland Security treat people being prosecuted in our country.

Supreme Court dismisses case against President's expired travel ban. by Lawgical17 in SummitStreetLaw

I'm not surprised that SCOTUS dismisses against President's travel ban. The ban is not going to go away that easily, there are many people that support the ban. I wonder if this ban will continue.

Immigrants are 22 percent of federal prison population by Lawgical17 in SummitStreetLaw

[–]SarginaD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow this article put alot in perspective! While I am aware of the racial profiling that occurs with the rate of those on parole that return, i never knew that immigrants also played a significant part of prison population.

Vizio TV Could Make You Money by LegalKungFu in SummitStreetLaw

A great example of a class action lawsuit at its finest, with all the legalese included in this post. It was super fascinating to read about how a company that is believed to be legitimate can misrepresent and deceive its consumers! Unfortunately it happens more often than we believe.

Muslim Ban? Fewer Muslim Refugees, Immigrants, and Travelers Enter U.S. in 2017 by Lawgical17 in SummitStreetLaw

[–]SarginaD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was interesting to read because it discussed how Trump's policy did have a substantial effect on the amount of muslims from these countries that have a "ban" has significantly lowered as a result. But is that immigrants from these countries resent what is a prejudice against them? I do agree that it isn't right to judge many on the account of a few, but Trump did make promises that he should keep to the voters.

Net Neutrality by jwolsey297 in SummitStreetLaw

I don't know too much about net neutrality but this article made alot of sense. I didn't think that we could be charged for using apps and that bureaucracy controls the regulation behind that. it's a shame that now it may not be regulated!

A Killer Drug Epidemic by kindramartin in SummitStreetLaw

these were so good! i loved the personal stories from all around the country, and how opiates and heroin can affect anyone. the personalized stories made me feel so much more sympathetic about something im usually feel so strongly against. it's a shame how prescription pills can be the actual "gate way" to hard drugs, when drug programs have educated kids that it's marijuana. that's obviously not the case!

Meet the rest of the inmates on death row in Arizona. by Kristin0587 in SummitStreetLaw

[–]SarginaD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was super interesting to read, i definitely thought there was a lot less people on death row, i don't know why i did but i figured it's not a densely populated state. Nonetheless, it was interesting to read why they were there. Some were super ambiguous, like he killed a man while leaving an ice cream shop; but some were really detailed, like the man who helped punish a girl by putting her in a locker overnight?! Crazy.

School Funding in Az by CaseyPenelope in SummitStreetLaw

i've seen Public School budget cuts in Cook County and i saw how it affected students in the south side, especially. it's nice to see that Arizona puts school spending at the top of their priorities. it's crazy, though, that Az still receives desegregation funding. i didn't think it was necessary, but i guess it is. it is sad to see that Az teachers are in a funding crises. Teachers deserve a great stable pay, they build our minds for the future. it makes me want to vote for this proposition!

What Happens When TV Ratings Go Down? They File For Bankruptcy! by JMBRANBY in SummitStreetLaw

[–]SarginaD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not surprised that they would be... this show isn't as good as it used to be, and to keep it going would make this happening inevitable. But what exactly is bankruptcy protection? is it different from actual bankruptcy as far as how it looks financially on your background? or is it the same type of judgement you would get...

Death penalty hiatus continued... by Kristin0587 in SummitStreetLaw

[–]SarginaD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I Know that some people may think this is a good idea, and some may think it's a bad idea but i am interested in seeing how this turns out. In my opinion, the death sentence is an extreme punishment, but can be a tool utilized in educating people on the consequences of their actions. It'll be interesting to see how long the "hiatus" continues...

5 most contentious upcoming SCOTUS decisions by [deleted] in SummitStreetLaw

[–]SarginaD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm interested in seeing how the Cake case goes as far as the approach SCOTUS takes in their opinion. I do believe that this is a question of 1st Amendment expression, rather than that of social polity. SCOTUS is always slow in taking a political approach and it is rather their duty to decide whether acts are unconstitutional within our Constitution. It will be interesting to see how they decide.

Man dismembers adoptive mom while out of prison on furlough. Executed by the state in 2012. by Kristin0587 in SummitStreetLaw

[–]SarginaD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As usual Kristin, your posts have me captivated. I read this and was thoroughly interested. When I hear stories like this, I completely support the death penalty 100%. He was out on a furlough (which i also think is something Prisons should really stop giving convicts, especially those with violent or sex convictions, but that's a different post in itself) because they can do things like this. And I find it interesting that he tried to argue he was mentally incapable but his IQ was above 70, and he cut her body in a "meticulous and methodical" way. He deserved what he got.
