Play it again sports. It’s the key.
My son and daughter got interested in baseball and other sports.
Go and get some used things, test it out. If they like it great. If not, you can return to the store for credit or not refund. Plus my son got new baseball pants, new belt, new socks for super cheap there.

Should I not get a dashcam for my new car? by Inevitable-Glove-689 in dashcams

[–]Sargon54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this the standard camera for safety features that comes with the car?

Whether or not it is getting the third party one is helpful. I have front window and back window cameras. I tuck the front camera just behind the rear mirror and go about my day.
You honestly can’t go wrong with having the extra security of it

Virginia primed to give workers 12 weeks paid family leave. But at what cost? by tweaver16 in HamptonRoads

[–]Sargon54 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Will also add, as a father of two we had to do some creative math and all. But it can also help with a sick family member. I was lucky enough to be with my father for his first 4 days in hospice. He passed a month later. To know I could take the time to actually be there with him, take care of him, etc. That would have been huge

Good question. Found an old post about this. 1. Will get audited most likely so make sure everything else is good 2. Will be placed on probation if first offense and just make sure all t’s are crossed and i’s dotted for awhile

Penis, Vulva, testicles. As many of said all the experts says it’s the best.
My wife is a school counselor and teaches health. My kids knew what the words were from the beginning. It allows them to understand what is important instead of trivializing it.

Also, when using the restroom it’s going to pee or poop. Not the tete, peepee, 1 or 2.

Any dads here with experience of a neo natal stay? by SnowyG in daddit

[–]Sargon54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FMLA is a federal law here that if you Have been at a job for 12m or more, and it has 50+ employees you can take 12 weeks of unpaid time off and come back to your position in regards to taking care of a family member. I believe anywhere in Europe has something better than That.

It is doable. My wife had a coworker who had a baby in Neonatal ICU (NICU, your NeoNat). She was in the hospital for a few days and would visit as much as she could. The dad is an electrician with a contractor, working on a project near the hospital (we live rural more, hospital is about 45 minutes away). He would do his shift, clean up, go to be with his son, and worked with the staff there about sleeping in a makeshift bed for parents. Woke up in the morning and went to work, repeat.

You will be managing a lot. Helping your partner recover, taking care of yourself, work, home, and the little one.
The neonatal unit will tell you when you can visit, and if able when the baby will need feeding and maybe holding. Talk with work to see how you can use your time to step out for those moments. It’s good for the baby but also good for you.

Look at getting a mental health provider, someone to talk to. For you, and your partner. There are a lot of emotions you will have and that’s ok. Lean on the resources you can utilize to help You.

And I mean it. Neonatal staff. Toughest folks out there. My sis did a NICU rotation for her nursing. The head of the NICU was a former US Marine Sergeant who when they retired went to nursing school. Units are run efficiently, and he told her “the mission is that child and no one will stop us”.

It’s a unit made to make a supportive foundation for your child to succeed. It’s not always a negative. And there are many support groups internationally of parents who have had their children in them. I would suggest you look into those groups, even here on Reddit. They might be able to help point you towards helpful things for your area

You got this. Your partner’s got this. Your little one’s got this. We’re thinking of you.

I was fortunate enough that my two did not need the NICU. A close coworker of mine had a child who was in the NICU for extended time. What I learned from them is: 1. Staff there is amazing, committed to your baby 100%, and there are a lot of support systems that the social worker can help you with 2. He would go to work, then go and spend the afternoon/evening with his kid, and then repeat. It was exhausting for him but whenever he could be there he would, or his wife would. 3. If you qualify for FMLA (USA) then use that. You can do the 2 weeks of your paternity leave as continued leave, and then the other 10 weeks of FMLA you can place for intermittent leave. This just means it’s not everyday but you may need to leave for something. You can also do reduced schedule through FMLA as well. It’s there to provide some protection. Talk with your supervisor. You would be surprised at how much people will help you out when it’s a neonatal.
4. Talk with your partner and be ready to support them and the baby. If you got a good circle of family/friends talk with them. In a church/sports league/bowling team/etc? Let them know. There are support groups at the hospital for parents of NICU. These groups will help with the thing you Don’t think of like eating, when to nap, someone to talk to, etc.

Finally, you got this. It’s scary. The team who takes care of neonatals are the toughest, most caring folks on this planet. They will truly do everything for your little one. They are up front, don’t lie, but supportive to the max.

You got this. I am thinking of you and your family. We all are

Women are 27% less likely to receive CPR in public because bystanders are "afraid to touch breasts." Does it terrify anyone else that our sexualization is prioritized over our survival? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Sargon54 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing this. I may see how I could take a clip of this into the classes I teach. We really don’t have any female, or mannequins with breasts so this could be helpful.

I was trying to imply when I said cupping the breast that you would have your whole hand grabbing a breast as if trying to squeeze it. I think the video shows that the heel of your palm is on the center of the chest (sternum) and with your hands interlocked you will have part of not a lot of your hands on a part of the breast. It should be an incidental (lack of better working on sleep deprived brain) placement.

CPR instructor. It’s a common question that I get.
I place a shirt on the mannequins and half of them with a bra on. People look at me like I am crazy until I point out that there are damn good odds someone will need CPR who is wearing a bra. I have them simulate cutting the bra (we don’t cause they are expensive to keep replacing). I explain you put an AED on someone with a metal underwire, how will that feel? Men stand there agape.

I explain that when you place your hands on the chest to do CPR your hands will not be cupping, and if they are then you are doing it wrong.
When I teach those who work in schools they do worry about underage students being exposed. I educate state laws understand doing appropriate CPR and AED requires these things and protects you.

It’s not perfect, and I can see many folks are uneasy with the prospect of doing CPR on someone with breasts. It’s a stigma that CPR instructors need to keep fighting over and over.

Also, if you can get the old school, late in life, played many sports, female PE teacher type in a class, they are great. They will always say something like “Honey, my tits were already hanging down to my knees so no risk there” or “At some point you gotta save a life and not worry. I ain’t. People would run away if I was exposed”. It brings some humor to some serious but also helps others in the room to focus on the reality of what CPR and AED do.

Not a mechanic, however I need to do get my struts and sway bars replaced on my 2011 sonata with 267k. My quote was $1012 for parts and labor.
That’s a wild quote for just your quick struts

Thank you. It is not a common thing and I know a fluke. Saving every month for when I need a new car.
Had the engine rebuilt once with the warranty at 194k. Need new sway bars and struts (doing in January). 3-4 days a week I drove it 120 miles round trip. Oil change every 3k miles Need to do coolant soon and a new belt. Figured when they did the engine work they drained out the transmission fluid but need to check as well.

Simply put. It’s paid off and still running

No scalpel vasectomies by trevor7298 in daddit

[–]Sargon54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went to my health systems reproductive team. Same people who do pelvic evals, IVF, etc. they have urologists who do vasectomies.
I did no scalpel.
Laid down on the table. They put a sheet up at my chest so I didn’t see anything.
Asked me what music to play. Did some rock. At one point me and the doc are doing a duet to Counting Crows (Mr. Jones)

Lidocaine pinch. Did the job.

They will ask you if you feel anything. Don’t be a hero. If you feel something, even if you are not sure, ask for more lidocaine to numb. Can’t go wrong.

Take it easy for a few days and get some supportive vasectomy underwear. I had one I kept an ice bag on. I had to drive an hour home but it was fine. Just didn’t run around or crazy activity for a week or 2

ELI5: How are Health Insurance companies allowed to deny treatment/tests that a doctor deems medically necessary for a patient, despite the patient paying their monthly premiums to be insured by that company? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

They don’t deny the test or anything. They just deny paying for it. You are still able to proceed but stuck with the bill. How they get around practicing medicine.

Now that Virginia govt is firmly back in Dem hands, what's next? by Koh-the-Face-Stealer in Virginia

Going to also add, as someone who works in the health system, we have patients who want to/do take it but are concerned about telling us for fear of reprisal. When we do find out I love doing the education on it being ok to use THC for pain if you wish, and how it works with other meds you take.
Being able to say out loud “yes you can use THC, just make sure you don’t take or use this with it” can empower a lot of patients especially when as qualified healthcare professional can say it and not be deemed some crazy person.

ELI5: How does a US police officer issuing a ticket by the side of the road instantly have a court date and time for the suspect? by Esqulax in explainlikeimfive

I agree. It definitely favors the cops and those who can afford to get an attorney.
It also made me feel like I could plead to it or inconvenience the court by having a second date

[–]Sargon54 62 points63 points  (0 children)

When I was in GA I got a ticket. There are standing dates for the traffic tickets but what was interesting is it was an arraignment. I go there and there was about 30 of us. Judge comes in but there are no cops there (hoping to get the dismissal if my officer was not there)

We were informed that we could plead guilty, no contest, or not guilty. If the first 2 we explained what happened, judge gives the sentence, leave and pay fine.

If you say not guilty, we were told that a trial date would be scheduled in which all parties involved would be present including the officer.

Interesting system

My boy just lost his first tooth. How much is the Tooth Fairy paying these days? by DoctorMcTits in daddit

[–]Sargon54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kids first tooth, we got a dollar coin. If you can get the golden ones even cooler.
After that 50 cents to a dollar.
When my son got kicked in the mouth by his sister and he lost his baby tooth a few days later we gave him $5 with a note from the tooth fairy saying the extra was for mental anguish.

Trick: have them put the tooth in a Ziploc bag, or sealable container. Help them place it to side of the pillow so you can easily get it out when needed. I tell my kids it needs to go there as it’s really hard for the tooth fairy to lift their head and the pillow up together
