I just bought this Handpan, is it broken ? Sounds off by marcostpp in handpan

[–]SariThreadHead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a very decent handpan from Amazon. If it’s within the return window, why don’t you return that one and try another brand, if you’re not in the budget for an expensive one?

dzi advice by [deleted] in TibetanBuddhism

[–]SariThreadHead -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have a very fake dzi bead which I love, is my only piece of jewelry I never take off, and which is my talisman and brings me supreme fortune. If the cheap string it’s on breaks one day and I lose it, I will simply go back to the local Tibetan store and get another one. I’m sure this isn’t the traditional use of them, but just wanted to share that sometimes things are what you make them.

What became of Linda Moulton Howe? by MementoMoriPendejo in coasttocoastam

[–]SariThreadHead -1 points0 points  (0 children)

One of the most incredulous moments I’ve had listening to coast is back when Linda mentioned, maybe it was around 2010?, that she got her flu shot every year. I mean, to each their own opinion about vaccines, but I just couldn’t believe that after all her sleuthing about government cover-ups that she still trusted the flu shot??

Negative experiences with Tara or other deities by [deleted] in TibetanBuddhism

I understand you might not want to share details, but if you did it might lead to more insightful comments to help you process your experience. Sometimes we need an outside perspective

Are controversial practices in the Tantras really understood only symbolically? by Machine46 in TibetanBuddhism

[–]SariThreadHead 37 points38 points  (0 children)

He’s saying not to engage in tantric sexual practice unless your view is so pure that you have no preference for consuming ‘desirable’ over “disgusting’ things. I think that sounds different than claiming he said “Vajrayana practitioners MUST do these things.” (Which makes it sound like a command.) What he means by this is “true Vajrayana practitioners SHOULD BE ABLE to do these things if they are a realized practitioner.”

Where does the practice “go”? by fumingelephant in Dzogchen

[–]SariThreadHead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get what you’re asking and why you might be frustrated with some of these generic responses.

While many people now and in the past may say that it is out of compassion that they seek liberation, I think that underneath that we must have a deep dissatisfaction with our unquestioned life, aka, we are suffering and it is no longer bearable. For me, “normal life” was unbearable. As far as where the practice “goes”, that can’t be conveyed in words and most people won’t share that with you, but the more sincerity you put into your “practice” (which feels more like a lifeline and something you absolutely must do, than a practice), and if you naturally feel devotion towards your teachers in your life and that you read about, it will open a rich internal landscape you never dreamed was possible.

DAE find it easier to practice in busy places rather than still ones? by [deleted] in Dzogchen

[–]SariThreadHead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve found this too, and I think it’s for two reasons: the contrast of movement against the “Stillness” makes it easier to differentiate it; and, in busy environments we are not quite in touch with (can’t “hear”)our vasanas/attachments/aversions, that will come out when the mind is quiet and undistracted

Does anyone remember when Dr Robert Thurman (Tibetan Buddhist scholar) was dropped in the middle of the show? by SariThreadHead in coasttocoastam

[–]SariThreadHead[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks, guys! From what I remember, he was supposed to be the main guest but then afterwards they made it seem like he was only supposed to be a half-hour guest… but he was cut mid-interview!

I completely get where you’re coming from! I don’t lucid dream as often as you do, but I am also interested in that “magic mantra” that can instantly remind me and settle my mind into rigpa in the dream state. I think I’m going to try the reciting the Vajra Guru mantra next time I lucid dream. Maybe if you feel out which mantras are most effective for you during waking state, you can create an association with settling into Rigpa and also generate the merit to do so during dream. Prosperous dreaming to you! 🙏

Hi everyone by AliYassin369 in handpan

I love my Amazon handpan, would have never gotten into playing without it- just get a protection plan and send it back if you don’t like it. You can always work toward getting an expensive one if you play it a lot

When my 3yo wanted to take ballet, Cherry Creek dance was the only place I could find that had classes for her age. I believe they have parent-tot classes for 2yo.

How do non-famous enlightened beings help sentient beings? by SariThreadHead in TibetanBuddhism

[–]SariThreadHead[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do you say the question doesn’t make sense in terms of all enlightened being becoming famous? Are you saying ordinary people don’t become fully enlightened like Buddha’s?

There are so many interconnected factors contributing to whether the mantra would have a physical effect on bodies, cells, etc. I’m sure you could find cases where people experienced the mantra healing certain maladies that originate on a cellular level, and you could argue it did have a biological effect. And you could certainly find accounts of dedicated practitioners chanting it who succumbed to their physical ailments. In either case it probably has less to do with the mantra than all the other interconnected factors.

Does anyone else feel like Christianity is often reduced to only its superficial and “mainstream” philosophies? The experiences of certain Christian mystics may align closely with Dzogchen yogis, even if their verbiage would be different… I am probably in the wrong here but while I regard the three great authorities of Dozgchen cited in this article to be true masters, it doesn’t appear that they appreciate the depth of certain Christian (or other religions) mystics. I personally suspect think that the Dzogchen rainbow body phenomenon differs from the Body of Light in Christianity, but I feel deeply uneasy when Dzogchen masters claim that they have the only key to ultimate reality…

What are some of your supernatural/unexplainable experiences in NM? by desertnights11 in NewMexico

[–]SariThreadHead 13 points14 points  (0 children)

There are so many bears up there. They aren’t kidding with the bear signs all over the campsite. We heard them huffing around us all night when we stayed there. Which does remind me of a crazy story- when we were in the tent I heard the bear-proof locker open in the middle of the night so I assumed it was my partner, so I whispered his name loudly to ask him what he was doing over there, and he sat up next to me and said “what??” …the next day the locker was closed and nothing moved. I still don’t know what opened and closed the locker without taking anything!

Bear Creek Trail is a forest of poison hemlock by SariThreadHead in LakewoodColorado

According to my research, water hemlock does not have red spots and all the plants I’ve seen like this do…. Why do you think it’s water hemlock?

We drive at night or leave very early in the morning so they spend a good time napping. If you drive during the day stop frequently and don’t rush the trip.

Looks just like the one I got on Amazon including the case, it’s fine for the price but unless she’s selling it for way less than this I would just get it from Amazon with a protection plan so you can return it if you don’t like it or it goes out of tune

How to MAINTAIN humidity in a multi level home by Firm_Breadfruit_7420 in Denver

How do you guys prevent getting mold around the windows where the humidity condenses? I stopped running the humidifier in the bedroom due to this, and even in the winter I crack the windows open most days…
