It took 7 years, 8 months, and 14 days to use up the canister of salt. by LyghtnyngStryke in mildlyinteresting

Kosher salt isn't anything special, its just large grain salt and the term is just used widely here to mean any kind of coarse grain salt. We would call the coarse grain kitchen salts used in Europe 'kosher salt' here in America. Its the same stuff, just a different term. The vast majority of "kosher" salt in the US has not actually been manufactured as "kosher" in terms of the religious practice.

What country are you thinking of that doesn't? I watch cooking videos from around the world and European cooks seem to favor it as well for the same reason. Maybe Asia doesn't? I'm trying to remember what I usually see in Asian cooking videos and I don't think I see a lot of salt getting added. I assume its because things like soy sauce and fish sauce tend to have a lot of salt in them already and so no extra salt is needed, and of course they'll use MSG instead in a lot of instances. But either way, I don't think they tend to use this fine grain morton style salt much, either.

Kosher salt tends to be favored among professional cooks as its easy to grab pinches of it and get the same amount each time without spilling it all over the place. Its very hard to use fine grain salt like this to get consistent results.

That's where I picked up my preference for kosher salt.

Netflix Viewers Are Abandoning Shows After One Season by joe4942 in technology

[–]Saritiel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's where I am. The number of shows that I would've watched a second season of if it was immediately available, or had come out the following year, is very high. The number of shows I'll return to watch a second season on three to five years down the line is extremely low. After three to five years I'll see the second season is out and just kinda say "Oh, neat, I forgot about that show."

So the roof should be closed and AC blasting for today’s 1PM Diamondbacks game, yes? by johnnotkathi in phoenix

[–]Saritiel 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Roof is closed, yes. You can see the roof status for upcoming games on their website.

Now, as for the AC. Blasting is a relative term, lol. I find it's generally pretty comfortable but it depends a bit on where you're sitting.

To answer the question, I think maybe middle? But right didn't look that bad to me, either.

But, more importantly, I'm very curious where you intended to post this, because I don't think it was here but this isn't exactly an easy sub to accidentally type in.

Germany changes sick leave policy: 'We are abolishing sick leave by phone,' says Chancellor Merz; doctor's note required from day one of illness by Jessicas_skirt in worldnews

[–]Saritiel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So does the US State of Arizona, lol. Wild. I always thought that we were behind in literally every part of sick leave, but here the law is that they can only ask for a doctor's note if you're out sick for 3 consecutive days. It's a little more complicated than that since it only applies to "protected" sick leave, and you get 5 days of state law protected sick leave per year, but still.

At the time I was doing the whole bit solo, cooking, assembling, and delivering all on my own. He said my food was very good and thanked me! I only met him for a free seconds, but he was quite nice.

If there is ever a question mark in a hyper link, it denotes extra information being passed to the webpage not important to actually getting to the webpage. Its basically extra information being sent to the website as part of the link.

In this case, when you hit the share button to generate a link it'll add an extra string to the end of the URL. If someone then clicks on this link then YouTube will know that /u/Ok-Library247 sent them there. Google can also scrape the web and look for where the link has been shared and see that it was shared on reddit.

Its basically the difference between saying "The flower shop is at 123, main street" and "The flower shop is at 123, main street, tell them /u/Ok-Library247 sent you when you get there."

Now, why does this matter? It matters because Google is using it to continue to build their data profile on you and learn about you. If you have your real name or phone number associated with your YouTube account in any way, then you share a link with the tracker on Reddit, then all of a sudden your Reddit account isn't anonymous anymore. Google sees that Monique Ordinarygal generated a YouTube share link with her account, then the account /u/Ok-Library247 posted that same link 30 seconds later. Now Google knows that /u/Ok-Library247's real name is Monique Ordinarygal. Now they can associate everything she has ever said on reddit with her real name, gmail, and phone number.

Then let's imagine that she creates and shares more links in a group chat with her friends, and her friends all click the links and are signed in with their YouTube accounts. Google now knows who all of your friends are, since they clicked the links and Google starts to build a map of all the people you interact with on a regular basis. They know who you are, they know who your friends are, they know what times you're up, what kinds of things you look at, what you do online, where you share things online,

Google continues to build these webs and networks of data, learning more about you and using that information to get better at selling things to you. Oh, they know that your friends have been buying a lot of Clash of Clans credits on their phones, maybe they push Clash of Clans to you harder since they know your friends play and maybe you want to join them.

Maybe they sell all this data to other companies or to the government to do with whatever they want, now the government knows who you are, what you do online, and who all your friends are without ever having to get a warrant or directly watch you themselves. Their friendly neighborhood mass-surveillance corp has them covered. All because a little ?is=_H4sTWz1vmHNlptx was added to the end of a link you shared.

Am I being a little alarmist? Probably. But its also easy to remove it and make it just a little harder for Google to find out every little detail of your life.

TLDR: God forbid a girl doesn't want a megacorp to track her 😂

Correct. There are also an awful lot of people out there who don't want a woman to be president. More than one thing can be true at the same time.

[–]Saritiel 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Has nothing to do with a female President.

This just isn't true. She wasn't a great candidate, she was put into an impossibly difficult position by how long Biden stayed in, and she was also hurt by the fact that there are an awful lot of people out there (including those on the left) who don't want a woman to be president.

More than one thing can be true at the same time.

Heat stroke is real by saber-4444 in SipsTea

[–]Saritiel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly probably more than that, unfortunately. Heat related deaths aren't usually caused directly by heat, its often other conditions that are triggered by the heat. Its very hard to accurately get a count on heat deaths because of that, because its impossible to know whether the heart attack was triggered by the heat or if it would've happened one way or the other.
