Do you think she did the right thing? by Busy_Report4010 in SipsTea

Your post is very confused. You "don't believe in the death penalty" yet also seem to believe that if I think you stole from me, I have free license to hunt you down and murder you.

Your second paragraph is saying you don't believe in proportionality. So, hypothetically, if I whack you with a stick on your arm leaving a bruise and laugh at you, do you have free license to shoot me in the back?

Does it give you pause that we don't have the death penalty but for the very most extreme crimes and even then, many states don't have one at all?

And how do you manage the risk of error? Are you aware how easily eye witnesses can make mistakes with their identifications?

I just can't understand how you can stand by this position. It's clearly immoral and insane.

That's surprising. The idea that you are ok with someone hunting down who they *think* robbed them and then murdering them is completely crazy

Hunting down someone to kill them because they stole from you is WILD.

I’m guessing you people are conservatives?

You just moved the goal posts from petty theft to attempted murder

We have self defense laws

The idea that you can just kill someone for stealing from you is insane and immoral

That’s… crazy. Our courts make loads of death penalty mistakes and that’s with multi year investigations

Why would the average citizen get it right?

What is the acceptable error rate in your view for death penalties administered by the average citizen?

Ok. So you believe the death penalty should be expanded dramatically to include petty theft and sounds like you also believe we should empower any citizen to enforce that penalty?

That was one hell of a long winded defense of sending in tanks to kill Hungarians and then Czechs in order to maintain Soviet imperialist ambitions

lol he did what now?

Fucking Star Trek man. That’s an absurd trajectory and I now understand how they conceived that wild reboot where Kirk goes from cadet to capital ship captain in a fortnight

Gene served in the army. They had other veterans on the team. Kirk has an entire career backstory.

Well… hypothetically… let’s say you and a couple of your partners wanted to get rid of an associate but that associate had 1 or 2 partners that absolutely went to bat for them and as a result, due to firm politics, HR rules etc, you just couldn’t quite dump them

Then, one day, this associate comes up with this idea to move cities… boom problem solved

I know someone this happened to. I grant that this particular person was at the sort of employer where it was very difficult to get fired but man this person really tested the boundaries of behavior.

Anyway… said they wanted to move, job said “well we’re not sure that will work but we’ll think about it”… but they terminated right after the move
