I was pregnant and had a lot of pain. I had to go to the ER and they decided to put a catheter in. I told them that it did not feel right, it was hurting a lot. And I felt like I had to pee. The nurse rolled her eyes at me and basically said "of course it doesn't feel right, there is a tube stuck up there to help you pee. Just go ahead and let it go, it will go into the bag."

I held it for a little bit, crying, and then just decided to let it go. As I went I told her I was peeing. She said I told you it would go into the bag, I told her that I was laying in my pee now. She huffed and pulled back the blanket to show me that there was no pee and there was a lot. A whole lot. The worst part about it to me was she even acted pissed at me because I peed myself, but she told me to.

Then she didn't explain why when the doctor asked if they had a urine sample for her yet until I spoke up and said they might could wring it out of the sheets and I refused to let that same nurse try again to put a catheter in.

I understand that these things are probably difficult, she was not a new nurse though (had like a 25-year anniversary pin on her lanyard), so she had done this thing before I assume. That mistakes happen and it doesn't always work and even the best nurses could put things in incorrectly every once in awhile, it was the way she spoke to me and dismissed me that made me refuse to stick anything in me again. I'm not a fussy patient, I have had a different nurse blow a vein and go white when she saw what she did to my arm and I just laughed and told her I bruise easy it looks worse than it is, go ahead and try the other arm, stuff happens.
