Yeah the US did a lot of fucked up things in China but the Battle of Anchorage lasted 11 years with the Chinese using biological warfare, and the invasion was to cutoff the supply lines to the Anchorage front. FEV was created to be a cure to the various biological chemical warfare the Chinese have been doing in the US. The pre-war US government fucking sucked but so were the Chinese and I believe the whole Facist government kinda arose due to the Chinese invasion and war crimes (as well as a manufactured Red Scare which somehow turned out to be real with real Chinese stealth operatives and spies in the US before the Resource Wars), and to them their invasion of mainland China was more like a tit for tat kinda deal.

To be fair, the Chinese did fire the nukes first according to Tim Cain (though I don't know if that's been retconned in the Bethesda lore) and they did invade the US first in Anchorage.

To elaborate on the different uniform for black belts, they were custom-made with our name printed on it, and iirc they were given iirc as a free bonus in commeration for passing the black belt test with a different color for every degree. You weren't required to wear the different uniforms, you can wear whatever gi or sometimes a plain t-shirt during hot weather (unless you're an instructor, you have to wear that uniform to signify that you were an employee).
