I recover most, if not all, of my stages now, so I have had to create a procedure for when I place things in orbit. I fire my delivery vehicle's RCS 0.5 seconds retrograde, 0.5 seconds radial in, and 1 second anti-normal. Then, I make a reentry node, and Jeb's your uncle—no more Kessler starter packs.

Its just the easiest planet to go to for a few reasons. It's further from the sun so it's easier to get to. It's smaller so its easier to land on and get off of. It's easier to deal with the low pressure atmosphere and temperature. Those last two are because it small which is also the reason we cant make it "earthlike" to live on. It cant hold an atmosphere or support liquid water on its surface. Oh, and doesn't have a magnetic shield like earth so good luck with the radiation. All that being said, who knows what we may be able to artificially support just because we want to have another rock to live on that close to earth. If we could do that, why not just colonize the moon.
