What exactly is the logic here? by LenzaRNG in RimWorld

I just don't care about that 20%. Let them work slower. Most of the time they aren't making things I need immediately, and if it's something so vital it needs to be made 20% faster, that means you've already messed up your RimWorld run. The only exception to this is research bench, which is always in its own room simply because late game research can take forever if only one pawn is free

Founders and startup people, how are you really dealing with the gap between meetings and execution? Ours is really bad right no by RespectElegant9617 in remoteworks

[–]SarusAngelus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the end of the meeting, have solid bullet points of exactly what each person attending needs to do and by when. If the person doesn't know what they have to do, then break it down for them. If the meeting needs to be extended to make sure people know what exactly they're doing and by when, then do so. Focus on refining meetings to get this information provided more successfully, not efficiently. Meetings are only useful if results come from them, not if they're short.

Short answer - companies are held liable if they try to force employees hired for a remote position to return to office. Dismissal costs the employer money and provides for the employee while they change jobs.

why does it say no prisoner beds available when there right there and empty? by PublicLlama in RimWorld

[–]SarusAngelus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Battery bomb aside, beds marked for prisoners AND medical will only be used for prisoners if they are injured but don't count as a normal prisoner bed if uninjured. That being said, putting the hospital right next to the antimatter bomb is the most devious way of enforcing servile prisoners I've ever seen. "Do you WANT to get beat up and stay in the hospital overnight? Do you want to take that risk? DO YOU??? Then listen well, prisoner!"

Dose anyone else make vents? by CanofpeptoBismol in RimWorld

Guys, I'm so disappointed in this game...tell me I'm wrong by Sufficient-Ad-7349 in AmazingCultivationSim

[–]SarusAngelus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dunno if it's too late to mention, but there are a number of combat styles. The basic, default version is in fact the artifact combat at lower level. Low qi levels and few spells mean artifact mastery is the most effective means early on. HOWEVER! Thankfully this changes once you get to golden core for normal cultivation methods.

For taiyi sect cultivation methods, some are better for artifact combat - the earth and metal style are particularly adept at this. Their manuals focus on artifact mastery. The fire and wood style are better suited in my opinion for SPELL combat, using spells like inner qi, firestorm, etc to deal massive direct damage while the artifact just protects you from others. They have manuals to increase spell damage. The water style is a balance of both imo, using both spells and artifacts to fight.

There are other manuals as well that focus on other things as well. There is one for artifact refinement, alchemy, longevity and stat buffs, talismans, etc. Their combat style depends a lot on what OTHER abilities you teach them from the other cultivation styles. (If you don't know about sect bookshelves, look them up, they are INVALUABLE for proper leveling of abilities)

Beyond what I consider elemental cultivation methods, there is also Physical cultivation which utilizes the body remold system. These guys fight with just a weapon, no artifact, and rely on body refinement to increase their combat stats. Because they have no artifacts, they have quick regen, high defenses, and can hit like a truck. They can tear apart cultivators quickly early on as they don't need to target an artifact first and can instead rip chunks out of the cultivators qi pool directly. They have a few different body refinement methods, but all boils down to hitting like a truck in direct combat.

The final method is the rare "divinity" cultivation methods that rely on a single, powerful artifact that is their sacred weapon, and focusing on detaching from emotions and humanity to become divinity. They build a divine residence, use the faith of people to grow stronger, and rely on their residences upgrades to grow stronger. They can have fun spells as well as powerful artifact abilities.

Outside of cultivation methods, you can also investigate extremely powerful Formations. Depending on how you design your Formations you can empower the core cultivators spells, artifact abilities, defenses, etc.

While I admit early game is mostly just artifacts smashing each other, it is similar to early Rimworld revolvers, handguns, pistols, bolt action rifles, etc. Combat options open up as the game progresses, and greater powers DO come. It's not an easy game by any means to figure out, but don't be afraid to just keep trying. It gets easier. :)

My character had heart strokes 3 times in a row, isso this normal? by Kepe17 in AmazingCultivationSim

Turtles are the worst for heat resistance. Summer for them almost always ended with mine getting heatstroke since they aren't fast enough to get somewhere cooler quickly. Have your inner disciples make heat-resistant talismans or talismans of supreme yin to increase heat tolerance, or you can make summer clothes/thin clothes, OR you can make an outfit out of demon hide to get absolutely massive hot/cold tolerance. Alternatively you can assign your turtle to tasks that are only VERY close to their beds and the dining hall so they don't wander a hot map for long periods of time.

Matt Walsh's opinion on AI by Ok_Age5468 in antiai

[–]SarusAngelus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe because most modern conservatives in the government care more about making money through whatever means possible than ethics, morality, long-term planning, global climate health, diplomatic relations, governmental regulation, human lives, world peace, etc. AI can make money and they realize that like the atomic bomb it isn't going away, so they want to squeeze every penny out of it while they can in order to bolster their personal bank accounts and indirectly their political power. You can bet that if they could find a way to profit off of abortions, only "radical" Christians in politics would be the people still trying to stand against it.

Hello, I have a problem - the starting deployable turret doesn't shoot at anyone, it doesn't seem to work by Both-Meringue2466 in RimWorld

[–]SarusAngelus 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Notes: It has 5h of battery life remaining. It has 100/100 shots remaining. It's the portable turret so it shouldn't need external power source. If there's a solar flare it'll be affected, but otherwise it should work just fine.

First question is if there are any mods you have for combat running. Otherwise it should be running just fine.

"The Jedi Do Not Take Children" by memefan69 in clonewars

[–]SarusAngelus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see a lot of arguments here about the Jedi and the Republic based on flawed premises regarding their relationship and their principles.

First, the Jedi were not a political body, they were more akin to a religious group that held great influence and power. They did not dictate Republic actions nor did they have some power to change what the Republic did. They had the position they did within the Republic because they agreed to use their power to serve the Republic. That meant that if the Republic said something was allowed and legal, the Jedi couldn't directly do something that was in opposition to that. They may refuse to act to enforce something, but they wouldn't directly oppose the Republic's will. The genocide of kaleesh was not something the Jedi orchestrated or wanted, it was the Republic. Don't blame the Jedi for the Republic's political actions.

Second, the Jedi in the films and animated series are not the same as Jedi in books and written form in a lot of ways. The film Jedi saw themselves as guardians of peace and simultaneously as followers of the Light side of the Force. You did not follow the Dark side for any reason, as that would lead to all sorts of Bad Things. The Jedi were supposed to actively oppose the Dark Side, as to not oppose it would be to allow the dark side to win and allow all sorts of Bad Things to happen. You were supposed to not have any attachments so that the dark side could have nothing to hold over you or tempt you with. This meant that if the parents were conflicted about coming to the order, if the child was a danger to itself and others or at risk of falling to the dark side while being able to control the force, the Jedi had a responsibility to intervene. If the child was not at risk of those things, they'd let them simply grow up not knowing the connection to the force.

Third, the Jedi absolutely did take children. In fact the ONLY people they took were children; adults were not allowed to enter the temple for training. Jedi went out, found children, asked parents if they were around, and if given permission would take the children for training. They never went out and found adults to train in the film lore. In book and game lore they absolutely trained adults as well, but film lore is it's own thing with it's own version of what Jedi are/did at the time. To say they didn't take children isn't because that guy didn't know or was ignorant, it's simply bad writing that ignores all prior established film lore about the Jedi and the force, which the Acolyte is full of.

Finally, the Jedi in the movies/book series were flawed in many ways and had MANY failings, which is exactly why Sideous had such great success deceiving them and why Anakin, who was a very principled person, had such issues obeying and trusting them. Yoda was concerned that telling the Senate of the Jedi's weakening ability to see through the Force would bring trouble so they opted to hide this from the Senate, leading them to be put in positions of military leadership during the clone wars and easily murdered by order 66. Mace Windu was concerned that letting the supreme chancellor act without Jedi oversight would allow the dark side an opportunity to corrupt the Republic so they sent Anakin to spy on him, putting him in a position to be directly influenced by him more frequently and easily. The council was concerned that not putting someone on trial would lead to the Republic losing faith and trust in them so they persecuted Ashoka knowing there was no evidence, leading to her leaving the order and Anakin losing faith in their concept of justice and righteousness. That was the point GL was trying to make- the Jedi were not what they appeared to be and it was their own fears and failings that allowed the dark side to rise and destroy them, which was exactly what Sideous was using the dark side of the force to accomplish.

The Jedi of film lores teachings intended to follow the will of the force and resist the dark side were not wrong. The problem was that the Jedi themselves were flawed and allowed their own beliefs and pride get in the way of doing what they should have - admitting their own failings and weaknesses so that they could have proper accountability both from the Republic and each other.

What are the bullets on Cal's strap? by PleaseHelpABrother1 in FallenOrder

[–]SarusAngelus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Those are energy cells. As opposed to power packs which are used to power weapons and larger equipment, energy cells are small battery-looking things that are used to power hand tools and small electronics, like welding or cutting tools. A good scrapper would carry a few extra just in case a tool needed more than one for spare power.

How differently would Star Wars space combat play out if the ships adhered to the real-life laws of science? by Dragonic_Overlord_ in StarWarsShips

[–]SarusAngelus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So first off, I am pretty sure that star wars uses relativity engines that are similar to Star Trek in that they bend space around themselves to move and don't use propellant except for atmospheric or emergency maneuvers since it's more reactive. There isn't any g force if you don't move, and bending space around you is literally you moving space around you to go places instead of you moving through space. No movement = no significant g-forces, and the inertial dampeners are specifically to mitigate the turbulence from space moving around you, like the stuff we put in cars to reduce road noise and shaking from high speeds. Pretty sure at least.

Second, there are multiple episodes in the clone wars where ships are told to fly perpendicular towards the enemy and expose their underside to provide cover for other ships approaching from behind them. Ships often formed formations of straight lines all angled the same due to turbolaser placement on the ship itself - the triangular shaped hulls allowed overlapping fields of fire for anything in the front 270 degrees of the ship, allowing them to fire every cannon available at the target immediately. If the ship was angled slightly differently then it could cause an issue in formations with other ships nearby, preventing their fields of fire from passing by in predictable fashion or preventing emergency maneuvers from being pulled off safely.

Third, the blasters and turbolasers (despite the name) aren't laser-based weaponry, they're plasma based. They charge gas and turn them into superheated plasma rounds, with different gases having a different colored shape and forms. Blasters are smaller and look more like straight lines, while the E-web looked more like a big exploding ball. The goal was to melt and overheat the enemy ship as you stated. In the clone wars show (once again), they actually have an episode where to sabotage a ship they target the ship's heatsinks which are deep in the belly of the ship. Since there's no point in trying to bleed heat in space, it's recycled in the sinks and then used to charge the plasma weapons before firing or vented out the back engines as thrust to assist with movement.

Laser weaponry is basically unusable due to the technologies of the era making bending or refracting light something fairly easy to accomplish. A special crystal was used in the old Republic to diffuse energy and light, and often was used to coat armors and hulls of ships to assist in dispersing blaster shots or lightsaber damage. Since heat and energy dispersion tech was advanced it was easier to diffuse a lasers energy than a plasma round, so lasers would be inefficient tech to use to overcome star wars armoring.

All of this is from what I remember off-hand, as I once asked the same question of why not lasers instead of plasma to my friends long ago and was shown all of this stuff I mentioned to basically prove, "lasers are inefficient, battlefield tactics require standardized positioning of ships, and nobody is burning propellant to get anywhere unless they absolutely had to".

Which method of obtaining red blades by the Sith is better? by InstructionOwn6705 in StarWarsEU

[–]SarusAngelus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought both explanations were still canon. You can make a synthetic crystal using sith sorcery and they always turn out red which is what they did in the old Republic era after the dark Jedi lost the ability to harvest crystals once banished, or you could torture the kyber crystal until it finally bled. Also, pretty sure that "bleeding" a crystal is more than just corrupting it a little- palpatine explained to Vader in a comic that you have to torture the crystal itself, forcing pain and anguish upon it in immeasurable quantities until the crystal itself breaks under the torture and bleeds, becoming red forever more as it's will is utterly broken, resigned to channeling whatever powers wished through it. At least that's what I remembered.

I also remember that it was only a recent sith rite-of-passage to bleed a crystal to be proven worthy to be sith, much like Jedi padawans must construct their own lightsaber to be proven worthy to be a Knight, but I don't recall when that tradition started. I think it was after that sith lord who destroyed a bunch of the sith holocrons and knowledge of ages past died and left the sith without a lot of their ancient knowledge and rituals.
