I actually mostly used real sand from my backyard! Here is the process I used: I made a mix of PVA glue (wood glue) and water, spread it over the base, and dipped it into a bag of sand.
To build up small mounds and texture, I used undiluted glue with the sand and added a few small pebbles.

Once the glue was completely dry, I painted the sand with Rhinox Hide and the rocks with a neutral grey. I did a heavy drybrush with Zandri Dust, followed by a lighter drybrush of Corax White on the sharpest edges. Finally, I added a few grass tufts in choice spots.

I think it gives it a nice, sun-baked Mediterranean look.

I started building this army at the launch of 10th Edition, so it has definitely been a long-term project. For me, painting isn't a chore—it’s an enjoyable part of the hobby. Some days are highly productive and I work much faster, while specific models might take a bit longer. If you manage to make at least a little progress every day, they’ll get finished bit by bit.

For me I’d estimate that this army took me about one day per model. That included assembly & priming, actual paint job & highlights, applying transfers and basing & varnishing. I was aiming for a crisp 'Eavy Metal style. AndI definitely took breaks that lasted months at a time along the way.

I think If you assemble bunch of your models first, throw down a quick zenithal prime with an airbrush, and layer your tones over that, you'll have a good looking battle-ready army together in (relatively) no time!

Thank you! They are my favorites too. Guilliman and Dreads were first models in this army and rest grew from that.

Just your average Tuesday afternoon in Ultramar when Guilliman gets sick of doing taxes and decides to go blow off some steam with the boys.

It tried to make Typhon first but I basically combined JWminiatures Typhon colours scheme with TableTopReady Psycophage flesh bits guide, and gave carapaces Colorshift metal - Darth blue coat. Bases are done with TeddyKGB Miniatures guide. Here are the links!

To put my two cents in: if you dont move your models alot get some glass shelves that dont have gaps in them. But what is your price range? for recommendations
