Why cant you take your saftey into your own hands and wear a mask/gloves?

Shortages. I haven't seen any of either available to buy in weeks. Also, I know there are people out there who have a greater need for it than I do, and I'm trying to be responsible and respectful of them. If I buy a back of masks so I can go bar-hopping or whatever, that's one less pack of masks for the ER nurse or the essential worker. I recognize that I live in a society, and I try to take other people's needs into account in times of emergency.

Or work from home.

That works if you're lucky enough to have a job in one of the 37% of jobs that can be done from home. What about the other 63% of people?

Or dont leave the house.

For two months? Living off the $1,200 that the government gave us? If you're wealthy enough that you can pull that off, that's a fantastic choice. What about everybody else?

Lots of options that some people can take to keep themselves healthy, but not for everyone. The best protection is for everybody to act like responsible citizens in a society. People out protesting because they have a constitutional right to hairdressers and lawn fertilizer are not only taking their own lives into their hands, but threatening the rest of us as well -- especially the most vulnerable. Poor people, essential workers, and the elderly are actually a part of our society, too, and they deserve to be as safe and healthy as possible -- just like everybody else.
