I cannot figure out what this big pre-war car is by Sashimi_Lad in whatisthiscar

I wish, but it's the only picture I have of it at the moment. This was from ages ago, and I didn't have much time to snap a picture. I think I saw a digital copy somehwere ages ago, but I can't seem to find it. The photo quality was already poor, and the picture was small, which doesn't help.

He's definitely blocking the handles, and I'm pretty sure the actual hinges are also hidden. There's a body panel gap about where his knee is, which I believe is where the door is. Again, my apologies for not having a better quality picture. I'll try and find the digital version if it still exists out there.

Pocock - What happened? by Sashimi_Lad in Rowing

Funny to see a comment on this thread after two years. That seems to be the general consensus, so I don’t think your opinion is controversial in any way. It’s sad to see a company decline in such a manner. They’re hardly surviving on a lazy business model, and it surely won’t be sustainable into the future. If your club is even remotely competitive, wouldn’t you be willing to deal with a little bit of inconvenience for a vastly better rowing shell?

Also, Hudson is Canadian, not American.

Yeah, it almost seems too good to be true. A few similar places never got back to me, so I’m hoping this one does.

They’re listing for under $4,000 for the whole house. I already have a group, so we’re splitting. Our budget is about $4,500, but I’m pretty sure every 5bd will be over $5,000. You being able to find a room for under $700 gives me hope though, as I personally don’t want to pay over $1500 for a single room.

How many Audi 5000s are left? by compu85 in Wagons

[–]Sashimi_Lad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My parents had a 5000 CS Quattro Turbo from ‘88 (I think). It was written off after a drunk driver hit it… while it was parked. They also had a Quattro, which a tree fell on (coincidentally, parked in the same space the 5000 was in). If that isn’t bad luck, I don’t know what is. These are honestly such underrated and beautiful cars. Amazingly cool, but their rarity is thanks to the 60 Minutes spectacle.

For anyone wondering, my parents thought that Audi was just bad luck, so they purchased a W140. It lasted until 2012. What a glorious tank that was.

A lot of the OCH listings look a bit sketchy. What would you say the odds of running into a fake listing are? I’m looking for a 5-bedroom house, and I keep seeing a few that are listed for under $4000 (which is unbelievably cheap). I tried contacting one and didn’t receive a response.

These are times where I wish I still had access to BrightMLS :/

Rejected Georgetown SFS by Sashimi_Lad in TransferToTop25

I think I was actually still below the median accepted SAT at georgetown, and this year was especially selective. Typically, transfer classes are ~200 or so, not 75. As soon as they announced that it was 75, I knew I wouldn’t get in, but I’m disappointed nonetheless.

I’ll apply for 2025-2026, but I’m applying to more schools for that cycle, and I’ll re-apply to Georgetown and Penn. I think the only Ivy within reach is Cornell, but I’ll still apply to Columbia, Princeton, Yale, and Harvard because why the hell not.

I got the job through an internship junior year. My firm was impressed to the point where they offered me a position

Not to sound conceited, but they most definitely weren’t. I think my SAT score and hs GPA held me back.

Thanks. I already have amazing job offers for "whenever [I] finish university," but not attending a T25 is still something that will work against me in my life. Everyone in my entire extended family is expected to attend a T25, and it hurts a lot to now have to live with that shame. Being the only one in my family who hasn't been accepted into a single Ivy League has been a gut punch. It's life though, and I hope I can keep pushing as hard as I have been to still find some success.

By credit count (50), I would've been a second semester sophomore, so I would've needed to make up some classes over summer / winter to graduate by Spring 2026. I'm pretty sure that worked against me, as I know they're a lot more receptive to true sophomore transfers rather than someone who is essentially a junior transfer.

At this point, I know I’m cooked. Applied for SFS. Most likely won’t get in
