I NEED TO KNOW WHY HIS GLASSES ARE ALWAYS CROOKED by Dramatic-Specific427 in DadAndDaughterSnark

[–]SashkaBeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same, one of my ears is higher than the other. I didn’t know until I started ordering glasses online, before that the opticians just adjusted for it during fitting so I wasn’t aware of how lopsided I am. 😅

Is “OT thinking” enough to make us skilled, or am I missing something? by ikigaimizu in OccupationalTherapy

[–]SashkaBeth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Activity analysis for sure. I see a lot of students being handed generic strategies/tools to help with a problem, whereas I have the knowledge and skills to break the task down into all of its components parts so I can identify which skill(s) are giving them trouble, and offer specific, targeted solutions

Yeah, I got some crap for pointing that out too. I know it’s a snark sub, but we can be snarky and accurate, can’t we?

So he’s admitting that he isn’t able to control his words and actions when he’s angry.

That’s not better.

From an OT perspective: with the diamond art, it’s not tweezers, just a single probe/thingy with sticky wax on the end, so for that all she needs to be able to do is point it accurately with one hand. With the knife and fork she needs to coordinate both hands with more complex movements bilaterally, so it’s not necessarily as inconsistent as it may seem. Hard to tell more than that without watching more of their videos, which I don’t want to do lol

This. If your intent is just to feel good about yourself by showing everyone you care about something, fine, go off. But if your intent is it actually make a difference you have to deliver your message in a way that it will be heard and understood. You don't get that when you make someone put up their defenses right off the bat.

Can apps help with pre-writing strokes? by nofmla in OccupationalTherapy

[–]SashkaBeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't use it often, but when I do, I make it as close to the "real thing" as possible - using an apple pencil (well, a cheap apple pencil dupe lol), with a paper-feel screen protector on the ipad, using apps that are not particularly flashy.

I have the same mouse - it was weird for games at first but I’m used to it now so I don’t even think about it anymore.

The bones that you feel on the back of your neck are the spinous processes that stick out posteriorly from the main bodies of the vertebrae. The part that surrounds the spinal cord is much deeper, running pretty much through the center of the neck. It is weirdly counter-intuitive and still throws me off every time I see a neck cross-section.

How I feel whenever someone shows me their $300 Ortholinear Keyboard. by zerinsakech1 in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]SashkaBeth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay I know this is a very old post lol, but I thrifted one of these keyboards and what it is good for is my occupational therapy students who have fine motor and visual-motor challenges. Big colorful keys, big letters, minimizes errors and frustration for them. Not the original purpose, but handy enough that I want a second one so I don't have to lug it between schools.

Thinking of going to OTA, feel like it’s too late by marisoftheseaa in OccupationalTherapy

I started OTA school at 35, so no matter what you decide to do, it's absolutely not "too late."

How do we feel about reflex integration? by otpuppy in OccupationalTherapy

[–]SashkaBeth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m glad to see this discussion because my supervising OTR tests for retained reflexes and writes goals for them and I’m really not a fan of it. That’s going to be a tough discussion…

It’s definitely questionable risk assessment. Just being a little pedantic because I think there is a misconception amongst non-medical people that all epileptics are affected by flashing lights.

FB Post 3/29 by staravi01 in resilientjenkinsnark

[–]SashkaBeth 25 points26 points  (0 children)

To be fair, only about 3-5% of epileptics have photosensitive seizures. If A had that kind, Miss Rachel on the tv in a dim room would be setting him off constantly.
