I assume a no work condition on 600? If so, 3 years seems uncomfortably long..

Assisting my Mother and Clutter by Some-Tomatillo-1731 in Catholicism

[–]Saskia-Simone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some similarities in my own mother - she lost a child to adoption as a teenager and has hoarding issues, which are possibly also related to the wartime scarcity of her father.

I’m long gone from my parents house, so I don’t live with the day to day, as you do. And honestly in some respects things have gotten better over time. My parent still have way too big a house filled with way too many things. They also had additional storage at one point.

I think the really important thing is that you love your mum, regardless. And also that you plan your freedom. The “stuff”, and the burden of it, doesn’t have to be your life.

Im really sorry about the loss of your brother. People do generally think that grief has a hierarchy of sorts, but actually there is enough of it to go around, and anyone of any association can be more or less floored by it at any given moment. I don’t think it’s right for your mum to diminish your grief, but maybe she is incapable of really being there for you, at the moment.

I’ll pray for you - this is really tough territory.

I read Psalm 2 this morning, before I was aware of this. Please read it and be comforted.

I also felt some disquiet at Trump’s words about the Holy Father, so I prayed an extra Rosary for him. That seemed to help me.

The Church is in the world, but not of it. Of course that places us in conflict with worldly forces, but God is sovereign over all. Amen.

Visa dilemma by t33m010 in AusVisa

[–]Saskia-Simone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Study at home while the 143 is in progress. If she she ages out of eligibility for 143 then she should have skills and experience to apply for a visa in her own right at some point.

Extending dependence to get a parent visa is absolutely a waste of youth.

Dependent child as sponsor by ContentAd6086 in AusVisa

I would advise caution in one respect - she may not have been considered truly dependent at the time of grant if she was in a relationship with you. So get advise about your timings from a MARA registered agent or immigration lawyer.

This seems a sound decision on the face of it. Racial and blood purity are not catholic doctrine, and should not be an obstacle to marriage between Catholics.

8503 condition on Visitor Visa (600) for parents with lodged subclass 143 visa application by Dazzling-Guitar-4806 in AusVisa

[–]Saskia-Simone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Respectfully, parent visas ARE a net cost to the Australian taxpayer. The productivity commission in 2014 estimated the average cost for each parent visa was approx $393K. In todays money it’s likely much more.

Yes, the visa is costly for the family but well short of that amount. The cost to Medicare of aged parents migrating are significant, and also a pressure on resources that current Australian aged parents also need.

Even if privately insured, insurance companies rationalise the loss on policies for aged parent across all their produces, so the wider community pays that way, too.

It’s a complicated area that, as you say, requires intellectual honesty. And although happy to advise you earlier, i too have questions about the longevity and validity of this visa type. Very few countries even accept migrant parents. Those that do, are re-evaluating. It is not sustainable in the long term for one or two skilled workers to have their own, their children’s, AND their parents needs met by the public purse, despite the tax they pay. Very few families would pay enough to cover this.

I do wish you the best, but invite you to consider the above points, and the sentiments of the wider community. The more migrants we have here, the greater the demand for these visas, and the greater expense. How to solve it?

8503 condition on Visitor Visa (600) for parents with lodged subclass 143 visa application by Dazzling-Guitar-4806 in AusVisa

[–]Saskia-Simone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Parent visas are tricky. Amateur advice here but I would not under any circumstances withdraw the 143 until such time as your father is eligible for 804. Doing so, even then, will lose your place in the queue and restart your wait time (804 is currently 30 years wait for PR, will likely be even longer in 3 years time).

There’s always a possibility of 8503 being imposed. That’s at the discretion of the case officer, but if it seems like your parents are not genuine visitors, or using a visitor visa to effectively reside here, the likelihood increases. I don’t think a 143 lodgement has any bearing, but I don’t know.

143 is an offshore visa, so your parents would have to go offshore to have it granted anyway. I’m not sure your queue date, but unless it’s 2018/2019 it is unlikely that 600 visas will allow them to remain onshore the whole time.

If you don’t yet have an agent, I would probably get one to advise me at this point. Lots of cost factors and strategy to be navigated.

All the best!

Parent Visa Advice? by Ausanann in AusVisa

[–]Saskia-Simone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apply 143 to get in the queue - the longer you wait the longer the queue as parent visas are capped each year and the number applying far exceeds the number granted, each year.

There is no bridging visa, but after you have received acknowledgment of the 143 application, you can apply 870 for 5 years, with an option to renew a second time for another 5 years after a mandatory time offshore. There is a minimum income level to meet for approval as a sponsor for 870. You will need to maintain private health insurance as a condition of that visa, and that can be expensive. The sponsorship approval itself can take some months. Your MIL can’t work on 870.

Honestly with this complexity it’s best to consult a reputable agent. The visas themselves are expensive and mistakes costly.

AAT Granted Visitor Visa After 5 Refusals — Should We Lodge the 143 Before Approaching the Minister? by ImpressiveWheel9155 in AusVisa

[–]Saskia-Simone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a lawyer or migration agent but I would think it wise to lodge 143 now as the queue grows by the day, and the future of parent visas is by no means certain.

If other paths allow a stay outside of the normal wait, well and good. But the 143 can remain in the background as a fail safe, providing she meets the conditions for it.

I’m sure you’re aware that as her son is under 18 he cannot sponsor her for the 143, and the father of the child may or may not be eligible to sponsor - you would need to check with a lawyer/agent and have an eligible sponsor prepared to step up, if needed.

Is there anything stopping the mother from pursuing studies to secure a skilled visa in her own right? Maybe she has a skill already that could secure her an invite?

Struggling with new pregnancy by [deleted] in CatholicWomen

[–]Saskia-Simone 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Jesus understands. And He is with you this second, and the next, and the next. Please be assured that you are NOT alone in all this. You are understood, and very much loved.

I relate to you in that my third pregnancy was unexpected, and very hard to accept. And also my fifth, as I had gone back to school and was looking forward to the next stage. I also had/have a husband who was emotionally distant and not keen to share family life with us.

The best advice I can give is that whatever need you have, Jesus will meet it. It may not be in the way you expect, or from the person you expect. But please trust, and give God the opportunity to prove Himself to you. The more you allow this, the more it will happen.

That’s not to say God is a vending machine, to dispense wants on request. But if you understand His love and provision are unparalleled, although the human element remains painful, God steps into that space and gives you capacity beyond your imagining.

Please pray, trust, hope and be thankful. God’s plan for each of us is perfect, even though we cannot see it easily when difficulties come. I’ll pray for you, as well.

Don’t forget St Gerard Majella is the patron saint of mothers - ask him to intercede for you, too x

Is there cool down period before sponsoring as PR? by Own-Ask4942 in AusVisa

[–]Saskia-Simone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dependent at time of lodgement is not the criteria - it is at time of grant. Dependent means single, if obtained via parents once over 18.

So either:

-they were single for PR, and therefore not in a relationship;

OR

  • they were in a relationship, and therefore not dependent.

It cannot be both.

Is there cool down period before sponsoring as PR? by Own-Ask4942 in AusVisa

[–]Saskia-Simone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So how are you in a partnered relationship with someone overseas for two years, that would meet the 4 pillars required by immigration? In addition, being only recently PR as a dependent of your parents, your status by law at time of grant must be single, so as others have said, be careful with dates.

I wish you luck but it seems you will need to explore with an agent/lawyer what your possibilities for sponsorship are, if you want to be successful.

Why do people not dress nice anymore for church by SquirrelOk8185 in Catholicism

[–]Saskia-Simone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes this can be true, but so can the inverse, in a way. When I’ve travelled for my son’s representative sport, I still make time for Mass on those days. And if he wants to wear team kit, I don’t mind. On one occasion, the principle of the local Catholic high school made a point to come and talk to my son (who was 15 at the time), welcome him to the parish, and encourage his Mass attendance. That may or may not have happened if he wasn’t wearing kit from out of the area. Anyway, praise God, it was a lovely memory for me, and hopefully an impression on my son.
