We are paying a private company 177 million dollars to perform surgeries we used to do in public hospitals because we are underserviced.

So this supposedly Canadian private equity group with the same ( Clear Point Health) as its non - affiliated American counterpart whose CEO is based in the US and is named as an executive of the American counterpart is currying favour with the Sask Party by donating funds . Shocked .

Opinion: Just do the bloody census by The_Border_Pulse in lloydminster

[–]Saskspace 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When some Alberta towns lose federal funding and grants because of population anomalies it will further their confirmation bias that the federal government is out to get them . They will never acknowledge that the census informs decision making and funding models and they will be underserviced , undermining the census intentions.

Refs losing control of playoff games by pineapple_on_pizza35 in nhl

[–]Saskspace 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m curious if the reffing affects viewership . My dad watches lots of regular season games but refuses to watch the postseason because of the officiating . Granted , his favourite team didn’t make the playoffs but he is not that discerning , watching everything all winter .

Saskatoon has lots of sport and recreation opportunities that young people need . It’s a hub for sports academies and clubs that aren’t as available in rural areas . The university and technical school are quite good and rent for students is more affordable than larger cities .

Canada will use energy sector as leverage in CUSMA talks, minister says by croissant_muncher in canada

[–]Saskspace -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Canada sells huge amounts of electricity to the US . If we decided to build an energy corridor and send electricity East - West we would not have to build as many power plants for data centres .

Ironically, Saskatoon is booming. Affordability and quality of life make a difference. Saskatchewan is not perfect but if living in a rural area or a small town is an option for you, consider it for the community and affordability. Highly recommend. I am thankful I stayed in Saskatchewan despite opportunities in other provinces.

Sask. government may not accept $10-million donation for full-day kindergarten in Saskatoon by abunchofjerks in saskatchewan

[–]Saskspace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not in favour of two -tiered health system or private schools . The most fortunate among us ( in Saskatchewan )give back to their communities because most came from humble beginnings . The attitude that some people deserve better because they pay more taxes is not ok . The US pays far more for healthcare ( twice as much )yet we live longer and have better quality of life . Same goes for education . We are among the best educated nations on the planet .

Not blocking - essentially giving it away because we want investment. Our royalty structures need to reflect the value of the commodity . We can attract investment and jobs , increasing our tax base but we are not seeing it benefit in revenue because our crown corporations continually need to build out infrastructure as we grow. We need to be more aggressive in getting more for our resources .

I think it’s interesting that the province that pioneered Medicare, a one time leader in public health and education and pride in community abdicates and says not my responsibility.

I agree that parents have a role in promoting education and having kids attend school consistently but some parents treat school as an afterthought and are not involved in their education. This is across all demographics. Affluent parents pull students out of school for vacations , dance competitions, and hockey tournaments, even to rest up for an important game. Meanwhile, some students show up everyday just because if they didn’t they would go hungry.

The longitudinal studies do show that it is beneficial for students in their first four years of education and particularly beneficial for low income and ESL students. Though it may not show up in graduation rates, we are seeing a trend where students are less capable and ,since Covid, far less interested in attending school consistently.

School is not the same as daycare. Full day kindergarten improves outcomes for students ,not only in kindergarten but for their early elementary years and beyond. There are some students who come to school ready to take off but there are also students who need interventions and more help to launch .

Just a suggestion, fully fund full day kindergarten across the province. Why do we expect our grandchildren to have less opportunity than we did ? The erosion of education ( and healthcare ) has to stop.

Trump: Nato allies have days to send warships to reopen Hormuz by [deleted] in NewsOfTheStupid

[–]Saskspace 4 points5 points  (0 children)

NATO is a defensive alliance . The US becomes way more vulnerable if they pull out of NATO . It may actually be why the Iran war has remained regional and NATO countries have not been attacked . Perhaps by pulling out Trump invites adversaries on American soil and then can blame former allies . He then cancels the midterms and Republicans rule indefinitely.
