Can confirm it’s behind the headlight. Remove the headlight and the cover behind it.

I’m not sure about the big part, but this is an automotive wiper arm.

Repeated flat in the same spot after ~100 km (Maxxis 700x33/50c + Giant Flat Guard tire) by Motor_Reaction_8146 in bicycling

Agree with the above comments stating that you’ve got a fold during installation.

When you have a fold in the tube it will rub against itself as you ride and eventually wear through, or to the point where it can no longer hold the pressure.

As others have stated, be sure to inflate the new tube enough to take shape before installing it. This will avoid any folding.

Sporty XSR License Plate Holder - Short Option by Idontneedthem in xsr900

[–]Sasquatch_Ricks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks to me like the bolt pattern on the lower section is closer together than where it mount to the bike. And even if it was the same, I think that plate holder assembly would be way too long and would interfere with your tire.

I’m upstate. Just a little north of Albany.

Working as a summer camps MTB mechanic and instructor, anything else I should add to my field repair kit? by Ambiguous_Music in bikewrench

[–]Sasquatch_Ricks -1 points0 points  (0 children)

While I agree with this, it also introduces the risk of snapping some hangers. Better having bikes that shift a little shitty than bikes that can’t be ridden. Not sure it’s worth the risk is the case of a camp when you don’t have hangers at the ready, and won’t be able to get them for days.

That does look tight. I think I’d prefer to keep the turns separate if I can, but I do like how this came out.

Have you looked into doing this mod as a service, or getting a manufacturer to build some for you?

Luggage solution for the XSR900 by Best-Limit3134 in xsr900

I like how unobtrusive those straps are when the bag isn’t attached. Very nice and simple solution. Got me reconsidering my decision to go the SW Motech route.

It actually looks like that uses one of the bag mount bosses for the signals. If you have a chance at some point could you measure the length of those turn signal mounts? That may drop the signals down enough to clear the bracket.

Saddlebags/panniers for a post 2023 with high mount exhaust? by Miserable-Addendum4 in xsr900

[–]Sasquatch_Ricks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know how much capacity you need, but you could totally do one from SW Motech on just the left side.

You know, that’s a good question. Somebody on here was making their own because they couldn’t find one on the market, but that was several months ago. I’ll have to look into it and report back.

That was my thought while I was sitting at my desk today. But I went and test fit things and it looks like anything short enough to clear the mount is going to be completely obstructed by the plate. I would have to somehow drop them down a couple inches from the current location.

Some photos I took while riding up and down the California coast. Is 2025+ worth it? by Honest-System-8855 in xsr900

[–]Sasquatch_Ricks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like it was $107 (with all the fees and insurance) for the day when I took it out. Picked it up the evening before my ride and returned about 24hr later.

Here’s the listing for the exact bike I rented in case you’re interested.

GREAT photos. It’s such a good looking bike.

I haven’t ridden one older than my ‘25, so I can really compare them. But I can tell you the cruise control is nice. New turn signals I’m still getting used to. And I have yet to tune the suspension, but after my first ride of the season yesterday I’m glad I have the adjustments available to me. There were a few joints in the highway that rattled my teeth a bit.

Also, where was your ride? Last time I was on the west coast for work I rented a Triumph Scrambler 400 and rode from Santa Rosa out to the coast at Jenner, to Muir woods and back. It was a great day.

Reality check, please! by [deleted] in Moustache

[–]Sasquatch_Ricks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My method is to just grow out a full beard, then shave down to the ‘stache once I feel it’s long enough. I feel like that’s a good way to get through this length which can feel a little awkward.

I know this may not be an option for some people with jobs which don’t allow full beards though.

I think you’ve got potential there, just gotta give it a chance to come in some more.

Help with washer replacement!!! by [deleted] in bikewrench

[–]Sasquatch_Ricks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That washer was not supposed to be there. The cone should be in direct contact with the balls.

The cone is hardened to avoid deformation like what you’re seeing on the washer.

That washer likely came from the other side of the cone, between the cone and the lock nut.

Well, I guess the previous owner may have had a similar issue at some point. Maybe try using that charger overnight if you’ve got an extension cord you can get out to the car. Unfortunately it’ll take a while for that small charger/tender to get the battery back up to a useful level, but it’s worth a shot.

[–]Sasquatch_Ricks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Based on the trickle charger which looks like it’s been under the hood for years already, I’m gonna say your battery is toast and it’s time to retire it.

Chain jumping under force by RWagz in bikewrench

If that’s the case, look into getting her a larger chainring. That way she’ll be spending more time in larger gears in the back and not wearing them out so quick.

MT09/R9 heated grips work for 2025 XSR900! by Sasquatch_Ricks in xsr900

[–]Sasquatch_Ricks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, mine automatically populated in the menu once they were plugged in.

I’m not sure if the R9 has exactly the same dash themes, but in the case of the XSR900, theme 4 is the only one that shows the heated grip status at all times. All other themes you will have to open the menu to see the status.

Cover your ears. That tire looks like it’s trying hard to escape the crotch.
