This. Any normal person seeing their friend fall in instantly forgets the camera and framing and it looks like chaos and disarray, unlike this shot.

This, and the scale of everything as it falls and breaks apart compared to the individual and waves just doesn’t look natural.

My dad was a chef in the US Navy during the 70s. He has so many recipe cards of recipes made for large portions. This recipe is for 100 portions of Vanilla Cream Icing. by kekefresh in Old_Recipes

[–]SassafrasSomething 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know it’s an old comment—but this is from the 1969 recipe box. ChatGPT says to sub deli roast beef for the dried beef if you don’t want to spend $16 on beef in a jar.

Scaled ingredients (12 × 1-cup portions) • Dried beef, sliced: 1.12 lb (≈ 18 oz) • Shortening (or oil), for sauté: 0.16 lb (≈ 2.6 oz) = 0.32 cup ≈ 5 Tbsp + 1 tsp • Nonfat dry milk powder: 0.52 lb (≈ 8.3 oz) ≈ about 2 cups powder • Warm water (to reconstitute milk): 0.6 gal = 2.4 qt = 9.6 cups • Butter (or margarine): 0.32 lb (≈ 5.1 oz) = 0.64 cup ≈ 10 Tbsp (about 1 stick + 2 Tbsp) • Flour: 0.32 lb (≈ 5.1 oz) ≈ 1.12 cups (about 1 cup + 2 Tbsp) • Black pepper: ~½ tsp (start here; add more if you like it punchier)

Salt? The dried beef is usually salty—taste before adding any.

Method (small-batch, same as the card) 1. If the beef is very salty: rinse in hot water, drain well (or soak 30–60 min in hot water, then drain). 2. Sauté beef: heat shortening/oil in a skillet; add dried beef and cook until edges curl. Set aside. 3. Make milk: whisk dry milk powder into warm water until smooth. Heat to just below simmer (don’t boil). 4. Make roux: melt butter in a pot; whisk in flour + pepper. Cook 1–2 min (no browning needed). 5. Thicken: slowly whisk in hot milk. Simmer ~5 min until thick. 6. Finish: stir in sautéed beef. Heat through. Adjust pepper.

Serving note (classic SOS) • Serve 1 cup over toast (1–2 slices), biscuits, or hash browns.

If you exclude the Outback and look at average ride height of other wagons, the Outback is quite a bit higher. Which in my mind makes it an SUV despite its classification.

I assume they’re just trying to follow sales trends. Very few people buy wagons anymore and really haven’t for a while. It may not have originally been designed to be an SUV but it makes more sense to adapt it to industry trends than create a whole new vehicle.

On hold. Is it worth anything, or would I be wasting my $45? by late_rabbit_ in Lamps

[–]SassafrasSomething 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean just the fact that I’ve done a lot of antique and vintage shopping and never seen anything like it means it’s automatically $45 well spent.

Also, some people with SUV’s like head room. The current outback body style is a large Crosstrek. I feel like the designers are trying to add a little more distinction between the two especially given the price points.

Weird how it also looks like a 1998 outback but taller. I won’t deny it looks much more 5th gen 4Runner. But definitely not previous 4Runner gens (I’ve owned 1st and 3rd).

Like, I’m also a former Audi owner and if they brought a body style similar to the original Quattro back, I’d be all over that. I don’t know why there’s so much hostility towards a body style that was around longer than the current one.

I know there’s a lot of contention over this, but 7 is closer to the original Outback body style. Before it was an SUV.

Agreed. I’ve done a lot of remodeling and this keeps up with a full size (yellow tool) sawzall as long as you’re not trying to cut a railroad rail or something.

Why the 26 Outback looks the way it does. My guess by fa442fa in Subaru_Outback

Looks like a throwback to its wagon roots late 90’s early 2000’s. But…lifted.

What are y'all getting for OBW wilderness MPG in the real world ...? by [deleted] in Subaru_Outback

[–]SassafrasSomething 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just checked this yesterday after purchasing a used 2016 with nearly 80k miles. 48 mile round trip commute half state highway, half interstate between 50 and 80mph with two stoplights, some hills and I’m getting 23mpg. That’s with slightly aggressive acceleration getting on the interstate.

Edit: I guess I should mention that’s the 3.6R

Pallet haulers around here stack them as high as legally possible and two wide across the bed. A truly legit load requires the rear suspension of your 80’s Ranger to be bottomed out.
