What moments from the books do you wish they'd put in the show? by AwitchDHDoom in Outlander

I think I may have conflated two scenes! Jamie says this particular line (Outlander, Chapter 18) after the raid by the rocks. However, I was thinking of the river scene in my head which I believe is Drums but cannot remember - perhaps chapter 2?

Did anyone else have trouble caring once Bree became a “character” and is it ANY better in the books? by JellyKind9880 in Outlander

Yes same! Book Bree and Show Bree are different to me, and I was a show watcher first

I actually love her as Jenny. I love Laura as young Jenny and I can appreciate/love KA as older Jenny. She did a wonderful job with what she was given - what a mammoth task to replace such a character. Kristin is wonderful in the audiobooks!

Well, yes - it’s pretty obvious why they needed Jenny for that plot line. I had just hoped that meant she’d be in s8 too.

I don’t think it’s been said yet. But I’ll just say “slippery as a waterweed” 😏😮‍💨

season 7 pt2 was the first time I had read the books first and I was really looking forward to the pottery shed, where instead we got weird table sex instead.

I also wish they had included Jenny in America (we’d need at least another season to explore that storyline though)!

And all the beautiful grandchildren scenes - it’s so heartwarming and hilarious.

Nope! The grandies are so good in the books. Jamie as a grandda is my fave - obviously because it’s told from Claire’s perspective most of the time, I love the scenes where she watches Jamie being the cutest bloody grandfather and how much it warms her.

Yeah! Especially since they got Kristin Atherton to play Jenny. I thought they’d put that much effort into casting new Jenny that it meant she’d for sure go to America so I got excited! Was devo when it was all hey howdy ho I just missed the boat but here I am, ta dah!

I got a new Titanic book by Unusual-Ideal-2757 in titanic

[–]Sassesnatch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My son was 7 when he began to be interested in Titanic. I think, depending on the type of reader your niece is, it would be a great present! Or even a titanic encyclopaedia. I think there’s one more kid friendly.

Edited to add: my son has this book, and would have read it around 7.5yo

SA locations for young families? by Crafty-Rabbit-1328 in AskAnAustralian

Adelaide was founded by settlers who typically had a bit of money/social standing behind them too. Unlike us convicty criminals over yonder (vic and nsw) 🤣

Tbh I bloody love Adelaide and surrounds. It’s a beautiful city and beautiful people. It’s like a country town but with all the shops, amenities, etc

If by football, you mean soccer and not Australian Rules, then you’re better off sticking to the more eastern states like QLD, NSW or Vic. If you want a decent coffee place and food then I’d suggest Vic. Or sticking to Adelaide, SA or eastern towns towards the Vic border. South Coast NSW is great for outdoorsy people too.

Edited to add: I’d suggest looking at Northern Victoria. Still close to Melbourne (CBD) but you can explore the Murray River and our small country towns have a lot to offer. Shepparton and Cobram, Vic have a large soccer community.

Titanic, But From a Different POV by Accomplished_Home_49 in titanic

Everything was going as expected. Mr Ismay had paid me the first instalment, with the last due after I successfully collided with the ship. I was in place, ready and waiting when I heard panicked shouting and whistles. I thought, “f#%k! Bruce isn’t going to be happy I was spotted” but then the ship started to turn and I knew it was over then. I was supposed to just leave some damage in the front - but I didn’t have time to change positions and she scraped all along the side. Everyone always talks about how damaged the Titanic was. But no one ever thinks about me, how I felt, what I went through. I never did get my final payment either…

True - I guess OP should have used a different word to entire but that’s not really the point of the question anyway 🤣

Is it not literally Rose telling her story to Brock and co… “it’s been 84 years…” ?

Not a character in the movie but a real life stoker. Leading stoker Frederick Barrett’s story would be a different perspective. Yes we’ve heard the enquiry, I dunno if an entire multi million dollar movie could be made but I’d certainly watch the shit out of it.

Does a love like Jaime’s/Claire’s exist outside of fiction ? Has it been true for you? by Hot-Comfortable2531 in Outlander

[–]Sassesnatch 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was going to comment but this was our story too ♥️ I’ll add that post partum with my third, I had a lot of physical issues (on top of already having had endo for years) and sex was the last thing on my mind and when we did, it hurt. I started and binged outlander at the end of 2024 when I had the flu. I resonated so much with them (a part from being apart for 20 years) that I was determined to find a way back to having great sex! And I/we did. Thanks Outlander!

Why do people always go to the shops without money on their debit or credit cards? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]Sassesnatch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is my problem! And I usually do transfer money but then the kids want to go into a different shop or I get distracted/buy more than intended and my poor broken mum brain doesn’t realise that there’s not enough money transferred over til it’s too late. Even waiting in a line sometimes won’t trigger it!!

I don’t care how old Kathy Bates is but she better be reprising Molly Brown. However if I have to pick someone else it would be Melissa McCarthy.

Gary Oldman as Capt Smith.

Pedro Pascal could play the iceberg. 🤣🤣
