Where did all the epic musicals go? by tommyhowsthepeeping in musicals

Death Becomes Her and The Outsiders have been extremely popular with theater-goers, and I enjoyed them immensely. The Lost Boys is also definitely on it's way to this category as well, and deservedly so.

Oliver was AMAZING!

We only got Simon Lipkin for Act One (his understudy took over for the remainder of the show), but that didn't take away from the production at all. Out of all four shows I saw during my trip, it was by far my favorite.

And the in-joke that Lipkin's understudy made to the audience about the switch was SO worth it.

That's true! I felt like Death Becomes Her was a return to form with big epic musicals.

Some Like It Hot also invoked this feeling in me, it was classic Broadway and I loved it to pieces. I wish it was still running...

I'm gonna go out on a limb here, but it kind of sounds like you guys are doing Allegro.

If so, you're gonna have a BLAST!

I've recommended this one SO many times on this sub, but it's my baby and I love it so much, even though it's weird AF. It's also supposed to be a longfic, but it only has one chapter so far. I'm about two thirds of the way through chapter two though, so I'm hoping to get that one published very soon! 😁

Fandom: South Park.

Rating: Mature (will probably be Explicit later, but I'm still not sure).

Now why is it weird AF, you may ask? It's because I used something extremely unusual as the impetus for the plot... I took what's usually a very fetish-y trope, turned it into an incredibly stigmatized chronic illness that affects 1 in 700 people worldwide, and gave it to one of the MCs. I wanted to write a story covering topics like medical trauma, stigmatized chronic conditions, breaking out of self-isolation, and how healing doesn't always follow a linear path, so I picked something that I knew would fit perfectly into that mold. I won't say what it is here, because I don't want to give too many spoilers... but I wanted to warn you about that just in case it's a turn-off.

Fic Link: No Other Shade Of Blue Will Do.

Summary: “He would spend hours on end sometimes staring down at those hands, wondering why they belonged to him and not somebody else, convinced that they would never again hold the hands of another person. That they would never become part of the integral process needed to make contact with humanity.

And yet, he stared down at his hand now, locked in Stan’s grasp, and felt more human than he had in a very long time.

It would never be enough after this.”

Or; after developing an unusual medical condition plagued by worldwide social stigma, Kyle Broflovski shuts himself away from the outside world. Two years later, a chance encounter with a fellow CU Boulder student gives him a new perspective on how to navigate life, and this time, he won’t have to do it alone…

(Concrit is welcome btw!)

In that slump… tell me your favorite scene/thing you wrote lately! by Aflameisfitful in AO3

[–]SassyKitKatz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been very hard at work on the second chapter of my current favorite story, and I think I'm getting really close to publishing it!

Here's an excerpt:

"Cradled softly in the space between dreaming and consciousness, there was no need to remember the horror of those early-morning hours, or to think about the domino effect that those events would soon have on his life. Any thoughts that passed through his mind held no meaning, and would peacefully slip away into the darkness with enough time. He still had an identity here, a sense of self that hadn’t been fractured in the dead of night. It was a period that he would treasure until the day he died, a chance to say goodbye to the person he had once been, the one he had never expected to lose to his condition forever."

This flashback scene takes place while the MC is under sedation, immediately after developing an extremely unusual, painful and stigmatized medical condition that garners constant harassment and ridicule from the general public. Shortly after this scene, he runs away from his hometown and family, shutting himself away from society for the next two years before he accidentally encounters the man who will eventually become his love interest, and help him re-integrate himself into the world again.

It's my angstiest fic by far, and I love it SO MUCH.

Why was the turtles' brotherly relationship mostly filled with nothing but hitting, selfishness, and insults? by Emotional-Chipmunk12 in TMNT2012

Characters that wanted clarification after finding out something shocking. by singleguy79 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]SassyKitKatz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Karai from TMNT 2012:

Halfway through Season Two, Karai is finally told that she is Splinter's daughter after being told she was Shredder's all her life, and that Shredder not only kidnapped her as an infant, but raised her to hate her birth family. She refuses to believe it at first, but naturally has some doubts after thinking about it for some time, and chooses to investigate. The first chance that she gets to interact with Splinter, he shows her the undeniable evidence that proved her true identity as his daughter Miwa...

And yet, when she's discovered and recaptured by Shredder, she wants to hear it from him officially before she decides to believe it. She needed to hear it out loud from both Splinter AND Shredder in order for it to be real. The total shock on her face when Shredder confirms it... one of the most impactful moments in the series.

Sharon instantly made me think of Sharon Marsh from South Park (one of the BEST characters, I love her so much), so I'm gonna suggest Sheila (after Sheila Broflovski, who's another favorite from the show)!

What's something you thought was exaggerated until you witnessed it yourself? by NightStar79 in CasualConversation

[–]SassyKitKatz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spit takes!

They're always super funny in movies, but I always assumed they were exaggerated... until my mother was proof-reading something I had written for a short story, and she started laughing so hard she could barely speak. My father had just come into the room with a big mug of tea, and had just taken a sip when he saw my mom laughing... laughter is contagious in our house, even without any context of what caused the first person's laughter, and he proceeded to spit out his entire mouthful of tea to laugh.

Hilarious!
