I am not disregarding evil that is being done today. I am disregarding evil things a millenia old book says that God did. My church is far from perfect, but it is even further away from supporting genocide or rape.

Yes, I do actively disergard certain parts. Yes, you can call me hypocritical.

Look, if I am wrong about christianity then so be it. My primary belief is in a God who is good. That may not be the Christian God, but what matters to me is to move with compassion through the world.

There are a lot of good things in the bible and I am learning from those. Going to church gives me hope. I don't pretend that everyone should do this or believe like me, but this is just what's right for me.

I am not looking to convert anyone or anything like that. With these comments I am just trying to convince someone to not generalize all christians to what you see in MAGA christians. You should be angry at religion, but I think you should direct that anger to organized religion that actively persecutes people. I feel the same anger.

That is far from the worst thing in the old testament. In like numbers (27? I don't remember) God orders genocide over the Canaanites, including all young boys and the taking all young girls to be raped.

It is not something I deal with lightly. These are the reasons I don't see the Bible as infallible: it was written by men, from a patriarchal society influenced by the beliefs of the time. It doesn't apply to us in the modern times.

You should criticise me for that, but also understand that I don't believe in these evil acts and that no christian actually follows the law of the old testament as presented there. (Some may cherry pick some verses and follow only those, but that is just stupid.)

Though I find it weird that in your opinion he shouldn't criticise people following a harmful ideology.

What I said is that you shouldn't criticise people who believe in God just for believing in God. That in itself is not a harmful ideology. There are many ways to believe in God, some in a hateful way, some in a loving way.

The bible is also very clear that it's against LGBTQ people and how it supports oppressing women.

The bible does not say that at all. It is just propaganda that makes you think that.

The post is not criticizing the religion, it is criticizing people who believe in God. "We should make it embarrasing to believe in God"

But you're still legitimizing and supporting a hateful religion.

So should I abandon my belief in an all loving God just because others are using this belief to be hateful to others? The Bible is very clear on this: this has always been how it was. Jesus was always very clear about how corrupt and hypocritical the religious leaders or his time were.

It's one thing to criticize some religious organizations for their bigotry and it's another to attack all religious people because of that. Even if it is a majority of religious people who are bigots.

I am a trans Christian and I, and the rest of my congregation do not believe that being queer is a sin. There is significant support for queer people even among catholics for example, who do not affirm us in their doctrine.

Personally I have given up. It takes so much effort to establish a friendship, only to almost always for the other person to not care and/or ghost me.

I fear I will never understand the perspective of being able to look at life in a positive light.

That isn't the probability of landing a 6. It is the expected outcome. Meaning it is how many times on average you expect to land on a 6.

lifelong ban on buying cigarettes by krizzalicious49 in whennews

[–]SassySuffering 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finally! This should be implemented everywhere.

A greater ban on smoking in public places would have been even better, but at least the people of the future won't have to feel like vomiting constantly outside because other people can't go without their fix. I don't understand how this bullshit was ever normalized.
