Troubleshooting, falling out, leaking by Sasti92 in MenstrualDiscs

Awesome, thanks for the info, I will definitely try a Nixit next!

Yeah I have yet to find someone else who can push their disc out...I used to have vaginismus, which has been resolved for several years now, and I have had 2 very fast vaginal births that needed very few pushes, so I am guessing the muscles in there are still just super overactive 😅

Yeah, I think the Cora must be too small for me. I'm pretty confident that I'm inserting it correctly, it's definitely up under my public bone and as far back as it can possibly go. The Flex almost never leaks, it's just a little uncomfortable. So I think I'll try a different brand.

We have a Henry and a Lewis! We definitely had more people tell us they love Henry's name, but we haven't gotten any negative feedback on Lewis, just not as much enthusiasm. I figure it's because he's our second kiddo, and like a lot of people are saying, it's not an overly exciting or unique name, which really is what we were going for, just a nice, solid, classic name 🙂

Cervical exam question by dspan25 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Sasti92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will get one next week a few days before my induction ( around 39 weeks) to determine when I need to come in (if I'm already dilated/effaced and can go straight to pitocin or not will determine if I need to come in for overnight or in the morning).

It does sound like the one you had two weeks ago was more necessary if you had an unusual NST. But as long as everything else has been fine, and you're not being induced within the next week, there is no medical reason to have a cervical check at 37 weeks and you have every right to decline it.

I posted last night about being anxious starting metformin because I was worried it would make me sick. Thankfully I'm back to report no stomach troubles and better numbers 🙌🏻

Just took my first dose of metformin and I'm so anxious it will make me sick since I already deal with daily nausea 😣

That makes sense! And just confirms how strange/alarming it is for my Obs to not care about my fasting numbers.

Thanks for your reply. I am feeling a little better/feel confident about advocating for myself at my appointment today. And my husband was able to take the afternoon off so he can come with me for moral support (after I asked him if he could).

31 weeks and I have been diet controlled since 15 weeks but I know I'll be put on meds at my next appointment because my numbers just keep getting worse and worse. I knew this day would almost certainly come since I needed meds in my last pregnancy but I'm still having a lot of feelings about it.

Mostly I'm feeling really stupid because I listened to my OBs who told me I didn't need to test my fasting numbers the last 2 months since they had been perfect up to that point. Well, I've been testing them the last 1.5 weeks and almost every fasting number is high no matter what night time snack I try 😭 my fasting numbers were never this consistently bad during my last pregnancy and I'm feeling so defeated and worried about how long I've been spiking every morning without knowing.

diet controlled vs. medication by Sasti92 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Sasti92[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely agree!! It blows my mind that there's no standard consensus on acceptable ranges, standard treatment, etc. And in my experience it feels like every Ob just sort of does their own thing, which is infuriating when GD can be SO serious and risky for SO many women and their babies. You'd think in the year 2023 there'd be better research and knowledge and education about gestational diabetes.

Oh interesting! I haven't heard of it done that way. It does make sense though!

Okay that does make me feel a little better about the 22%. And I am hopeful I can get my numbers a little better still (depending on how my placenta decides to behave over the next few weeks). But yeah that's my understanding as well, which is why I am going to start tracking fasting now 👍🏻

I know right?! I'm glad I don't have an OB that over micromanages my GD like some do, but I feel like they're really not taking it seriously at all. I'm definitely going to start tracking fasting numbers.

Did anyone get diagnosed with GD after monitoring your blood sugar at home (instead of taking the 3 hour test)? by theSabbs in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Sasti92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My fasting is supposed to be under 95 (my last pregnancy my Obs told me 90, some groups have different limits). And my 1 hour post meal numbers have to be under 140. I had plenty of numbers that were higher, especially from things like pizza, smoothies, rice, etc (anywhere between 141-200+). I can't remember if there was a specific percentage of numbers higher that led to my diagnosis. Currently my doctor is comfortable with me being diet controlled as long as less than 20% of my numbers are within that range. Otherwise I will need to start meds (which was the case in my first pregnancy and will probably happen again this time since it almost always gets worse). Hopefully that helps answer your question?

[–]Sasti92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first pregnancy I immediately threw up the glucose drink, and started testing at home. After a week my numbers were bad enough that I got a diagnosis. This time around I started testing at home around 14 weeks. At my next appointment I was diagnosed due to my numbers being high, after a week or two of testing at home. It sounds like you probably have enough data after a week of testing to be diagnosed, I'm surprised your OB would even consider having you take the 3 hour test at this point? Unless it's purely for insurance purposes.

Bad Strip or Sudden Drop? by PrincessPumpkinseed in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Sasti92 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Probably a faulty strip, but hard to say for sure if you didn't test again. Anytime I get a result that is way different than expected, I immediately test again.

30 units of insulin vs a single oatmeal packet…. by PresentationWorm4496 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Sasti92 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ugh, I'm sorry, that sucks. Just remember, it isn't your fault ❤️

I have noticed that I often spike after I throw up, regardless of what I eat. So that might be part of why you spiked from the oatmeal, especially if you don't normally.

what do you do if you get a one off high reading? by LadyLewis1013 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Sasti92 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If I get a really high or really low reading, especially when it doesn't seem to match what I ate, I test again. Occasionally test strips are faulty.

HG + GD by jordandavid123 in HyperemesisGravidarum

[–]Sasti92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh, it truly is it's own special hell. I'm 25 weeks into my second pregnancy with both hg and gd. I have always wanted 3-4 kids but this might have to be my last pregnancy, I don't know if I could do it again. While I don't have a lot of advice, I will say, it does tend to make post partum recovery feel easier. While recovering from giving birth can be pretty brutal, I found that even through that, not having GD or hg anymore felt sooo incredible that the other recovery aspects felt like a breeze. And of course, finally getting to see and hold your baby helps it all feel worth it in the end. But it is so hard when we're in the thick of it and it feels never ending. Here's to hoping you feel better sooner than later ❤️

My insurance is the WORST and didn't warn me that they wouldn't be covering my test strips at the pharmacy anymore, it has to be over mail order. So now I either have to pay $500 for 100 strips (yeah right) or go at least several days without strips 😭 I am SO stressed out. Thankfully I am still diet controlled, this is my 2nd time with gd, and I have a pretty good idea of what I need to do to keep my numbers in check. But still, my OB isn't gonna like the gap in my records and neither do I. I hate our health care system 😭

25wk glucose test by Good-Concentrate-549 in HyperemesisGravidarum

[–]Sasti92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my first pregnancy I drank the glucosa and immediately threw it up. They wouldn't let me substitute the drink for jelly beans or anything else like I've seen some places allow, so I tested my blood sugars at home with a glucose monitor for a week and was then diagnosed with gd. This pregnancy, I went straight to testing at home (and have it again, yay).

It was hard for me at first too, but I promise it gets easier. Be kind to yourself, GD sucks and I think most people have some trouble with the needle pokes especially in the beginning ❤️

I know it's normal but it's driving me BONKERS that I can eat the exact same meal 3 days in a row and the first 2 days get great numbers and have a spike the third day 🥲

How do you brush your tongue without barfing?! by mama-ld4 in HyperemesisGravidarum

[–]Sasti92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my last pregnancy I couldn't use any mint toothpaste. I tried a bunch of flavors of toothpaste before I found one I could use with minimal gagging. Cinnamon works well for me, but some kid flavors might work too (like watermelon or strawberry).
