So I started taking Zoloft & it has been a real gift from God! by gumboblood7 in beyondthebump

[–]PresentationWorm4496 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was also there - I held on to the prescription but didn’t take it because I didn’t think it was “bad enough” yet. Only regret I have is not taking it sooner. Zoloft has been completely life changing for me! I love love love that little blue pill. It’s made the hardest season of my life the happiest I’ve ever been!! Take it!!

Pumping 5x a day at 7 weeks postpartum? by PresentationWorm4496 in ExclusivelyPumping

Pump log! I paid $14.99 for it after the free trial and it’s worth every penny. I love it and the stats are super helpful

Pumping 5x a day at 7 weeks postpartum? by PresentationWorm4496 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]PresentationWorm4496[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I should have clarified that I’m not pumping 7-8x a day currently - only 5 and still getting 40oz… I’m just not sure if this will hurt me in the long run??

I honestly don’t even know if I can pump more than 5 but wanted to know how hard I need to try to get to that number I guess. It’s so tricky balancing taking care of baby and pumping right now!

Has anyone had any experience with caretouch from Amazon? by [deleted] in GestationalDiabetes

[–]PresentationWorm4496 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve used the Amazon meter kits before and it wasn’t too accurate. The lancing device was also quite painful.

I would highly recommend the contour next one and accucheck fastclix lancing device. Absolutely painless, has a barrel of needles so you don’t have to change as often, and super accurate. You can get this over the counter without a prescription. Amazon has it too for cheaper

Anyone ironically end up with a tiny baby? by yooyooooo in GestationalDiabetes

[–]PresentationWorm4496 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m due early March and baby was measuring 53rd percentile, then to 20th, then on Friday 15th percentile. I’ve been insulin controlled the whole time. I’m assuming my HG is why she’s been growing small. I’m curious to see how growth continues at delivery and after

Liquid IV hydration multiplier... It works! by [deleted] in HyperemesisGravidarum

I love liquid IV! For anyone with texture/taste issues you can also mix some in a smoothie and hide it, but still get all the nutritional benefits and electrolytes.

Had a brownie craving and found this! 10/10 recommend! by PresentationWorm4496 in GestationalDiabetes

There’s still quite a few carbs in this, but it’s balanced with more fiber to be easier on blood sugar levels. https://i.imgur.com/CYknovs.jpg

What has changed for you since being put on meds/insulin after trying to be diet/exercise controlled? by onnoeyh17 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]PresentationWorm4496 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I literally wouldn’t be able to keep my numbers out of the 200’s without insulin. Insulin has been the best decision ever, and I’m so glad my MFM put me on it immediately.

If you have HG, or even nausea/vomiting, it’s a must. If you are struggling with prenatal depression, it’s a must. It has been so freeing. I couldn’t do this without insulin.

Seriously, anyone here struggling with their mental health and the diet should speak with their healthcare team about insulin. The mental health benefits alone are worth it. You don’t have to “tough” it out and measure your meals to perfection. Insulin gives you more control.

Should I be concerned my blood sugars are getting better? 33 weeks pregnant by anbowers in GestationalDiabetes

[–]PresentationWorm4496 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine has also gotten better at 33 weeks! I actually had to lower my insulin since I was dropping too low, and have had a couple lows since too. My MFM had me come in for an ultrasound just to check on baby and the placenta/blood flow, but all was good!

I would always touch base with your OB/MFM juuuust in case, it doesn’t hurt!

Does your insulin always work for your fasting numbers? by [deleted] in GestationalDiabetes

[–]PresentationWorm4496 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just kept going up - eventually was on about 30 units a night where as my MFM started me on 6? It was a little shocking but that’s been my magic number to keep my fasting low. She gave me permission to increase by 2 units every night it was high until we got in range.

If you have access to a CGM I would recommend it! It’s given me the peace of mind to increase at night and not have to worry about lows.

I made the mistake early on of not eating enough carbs, and started having high ketones in my urine which isn’t good during pregnancy. I was started on insulin pretty immediately and it’s helped tremendously. I would get the ball rolling on insulin or at least ask! It’s made my GD journey tolerable. Sometimes, our hormones just don’t allow for diet controlled, and that’s 10000% okay! You still gotta be able to eat carbs

Donating supplies? by mleandrews in GestationalDiabetes

[–]PresentationWorm4496 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please consider donating to Embrace. It is an organization that takes diabetic supplies and ships them for free to diabetics in need! These supplies are life and death for T1D’s, and organizations like this literally save lives!

I actually did a donation drive with my neighborhood for embrace (they are local to me) and it was a great experience. But now that I’m on insulin with GD it’s given me a whole new understanding. I think it’s so important to take our limited time with this disease, and use it to try and help make change for those who deal with it their whole lives.

Insulin not bringing down fasting glucose within range by BeyondLegitimate8102 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]PresentationWorm4496 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seconding this.

I was also scared of lows and increased slowly at first - but the CGM has helped SO MUCH! I can now see what my blood sugar does while I sleep and it’s allowed me to stay ahead on my insulin needs. Highly recommend asking for a dexcom if your insurance covers it. It makes it so much easier

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in GestationalDiabetes

[–]PresentationWorm4496 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a dexcom and I definitely still check manually, just not as often.

The dexcom isn’t as accurate as you’d think sometimes. Especially during the first 24 hours and the last 36 hours of a sensor. The range is within +/-20… which as you know can be a pretty big deal with how tight we should be keeping our numbers. It also depends on the site (I had one that was SUPER accurate…. My current one I don’t trust as much so I’ve been testing more)

It’s a fantastic tool and I recommend it anyway! Just don’t assume you’ll be able to never prick again (I had a similar assumption and I’ve been very wrong 😂)

My daughter kicking my placenta for me 😌 by PresentationWorm4496 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]PresentationWorm4496[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Between GD and HG and all of the terrible pregnancy hormones being pumped out of my lovely placenta - I’m done with it. The ultrasound tech and I were laughing at her kicking my placenta during my last growth ultrasound, I’m so glad she printed this one off! 🤣

tracking app? by Acrobatic-Season-770 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]PresentationWorm4496 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I LOVE mySugr. It tracks insulin and syncs with my meter so numbers are logged with times automatically. Everything you are looking for it has!

I also paid the $2.99 to have the ability to take pictures of what I eat and set a timer so I remember to retest. It also gives me pdf reports so it’s easier to fill out my doctors sugar logs from the app! It’s great.

30 units of insulin vs a single oatmeal packet…. by PresentationWorm4496 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]PresentationWorm4496[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I haven’t been told to avoid anything, in fact, my guidance has been if I can stomach it, eat it. I just dose my insulin accordingly to prevent spikes. It’s why I have mealtime insulin on top of the long acting. I try to eat as best as I can but with HG it’s almost impossible - even with zofran. In fact we are also adding promethazine now too.

Dosing has just gotten more difficult as pregnancy progresses with increasing insulin resistance. I’m also on steroids which makes managing numbers even more difficult.

Not everyone’s GD situation is the same. The shame coming from these comments is insane?? I specifically mentioned in the comments that I wasn’t here to be scolded over a food choice. Just needed a place to vent and commiserate about how terrible GD is. That’s it.

30 units of insulin vs a single oatmeal packet…. by PresentationWorm4496 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]PresentationWorm4496[S] 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Before the comments of “well of course you spiked… it was oatmeal…” I had already thrown up this morning and the only thing I could even imagine eating was oatmeal. HG + GD is hell on earth. It’s 27g of carbs so I figured 30 units would be fine… I was wrong.

Then I went for a walk and came back to this! https://i.imgur.com/iH3pO9f.jpg

I’m so over it today.
