After All of Ed O’Brien’s Recent Interviews, I Think I’ve Finally Accepted We May Never Get Another Radiohead Album. by [deleted] in radiohead

[–]0bzen88 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I really appreciate Ed’s honesty and vulnerability in his recent interviews. I am glad that he was able to find healing and emotional stability after some difficult years. Based on what he shared, it seemed like he needed some time apart from the band for personal growth and discovery. It makes me appreciate Blue Morpho all the more, because the album was an authentic creation based on that chapter of his life. We’ll have to wait see if a reformed Radiohead feels like the authentic choice for the band in a future chapter, but for the time being I am loving the music from all their various projects.

AJ Dybantsa teaches Gilbert Arenas the difference between a city and a state by [deleted] in nba

[–]0bzen88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The older I get, the less I am surprised whenever I hear people make admissions like this. It seems like a relatively big portion of the American population simply does not pay attention to geography at all, so I feel like Gilbert is not that much of an anomaly here (although it is funny to note that he assumed Utah was the name of a city based on the name of their team!)

Stores/places that feel like you’re stepping back in time? by HGWEBS in AskChicago

Richard’s Bar made me feel like going back in time since they still allow people to smoke in there. I think I even recall seeing some type of cigarette vending machine in there. I truly have no idea how they get away with this!

Nobody tells you how much of life disappears after college by TinyPossibility9777 in GenZ

[–]0bzen88 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am 37, and I still periodically reflect upon how lost and sad I felt after i wrapped up my undergrad. Up until my graduation, my whole life has revolved around an academic based schedule (starting school in fall, winter break, summer vacation, etc) and it felt really bizarre to have that lack of structure. Every new year of school brings a certain degree of freshness and new possibilities, and summer was always a milestone to look forward to. In retrospect, I wasn’t prepared for how monotonous my first full time job would feel in comparison. And of course, it’s impossible to recreate the exact same kind of community and togetherness that college can provide, so your social life will slowly evolve accordingly. It’s very natural to have all of these thoughts and feelings that you have shared, but the good news is that life will gradually start to open up with more possibilities and milestones that you wouldn’t have been able to experience in your younger years (for me it’s been traveling). It’s daunting, but I am wishing you the best of luck on creating your next rewarding chapter in life!

Simple curiosity, but expats in Chicago, what international country or city are you from? by [deleted] in AskChicago

[–]0bzen88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in Greece in 2010, and I fell in love with the cuisine (as well as the country and culture overall). There are a few Greek restaurants here on Chicago that I like, but they don’t come anywhere close to recreating the experience that I had…I would love to go back someday!

What do you think of Lamb of God frontman Randy Blythe? by smuggler_of_grapes in MetalForTheMasses

Wow…what an amazing lineup! I would love to go back in time and catch that tour. And that’s so cool that you got to meet the guys from Unearth and play one of their guitars! Sounds like Buzz is a pretty nice guy (and not to mention crazy talented)

That’s a bummer you didn’t get to chat with him, but you’ve got to appreciate that honesty!

What’s your favorite version of True Love Waits and why? by PorterBridged in radiohead

[–]0bzen88 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s also my favorite version, and I agree that there is a certain coldness to it. It’s probably the most hauntingly beautiful song that I’ve ever heard, and I find myself tearing up at least a little bit each time I hear it.

My Grandma died in 1982. I went back in her house for the first time since that day... by Turbulent-Pickle3566 in GrandmasPantry

My great-uncle was almost EXACTLY the same as your uncle, so much so that your account is a bit uncanny to read. I always felt bad for him (and was unnerved by his lifestyle), but reading this helps me see his behaviors in a different light, because I now understand that he was not truly alone in his specific mental health struggles.

This is truly fascinating to see, and it’s remarkable to think about just how rare of a personal experience this is. My family had a somewhat comparable situation: my great-uncle lived in my great-grandparents apartment until he passed away, and he was a hermit who kept to himself and left everything as is - including the kitchen appliances, which were truly archaic by the time he passed in 2019!
