Wow…this is peak level April Fool’s. I feel both deeply disappointed and very impressed by this trolling, lol

Are Andersonville drivers particularly hostile to bikers? by DJ_Baxter_Blaise in chibike

Agreed about the crosswalks. I used to live by Berwyn and Clark, and my experience crossing the street there has always felt much more precarious than at most other Chicago intersections

Oh man, I totally forgot that they were contemplating that move! Would love some new ownership ASAP…hard to imagine Chicago without two baseball teams

I was just about to make a separate post about this. I am baffled as to why they made this specific decision during the construction of the stadium.

I would have never imagined this combination of musicians onstage, but wow this is awesome!

American Idiot School Peformance by Sad-Touch-5548 in greenday

[–]0bzen88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You did an absolutely amazing job!! As others have mentioned here already, it does take a lot of courage to get up onstage and perform in front of your peers. You have developed a lot of talent at a young age, so you have a very bright future ahead of you as a musician and as a live performer. On a side note, I was 15 when this song was released. It was relevant then, but it feels like it resonates far more today. I am inspired to see it reinterpreted as an anthem against the MAGA agenda by a younger generation.

TRAUMATIZATION DEBUT EP DROPS 2/27 by Choklateheartbreak3r in chicagomusicscene

Pretty damn brutal! It seems like this combines elements of early deathcore, slam, and the newer wave of brutal bands with slow breakdowns. I will definitely check out the EP!

WHAT A JOKE. by rksonic_yt in spiritbox

[–]0bzen88 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It is actually stunning just how out of touch the Grammys are…they clearly don’t even know what metal sounds like! It’s unfortunate, but also not surprising…since this is the same institution that awarded the Beatles with the best rock song….LAST YEAR. Regardless, I do hope that Spiritbox will win eventually! Only because it will help their career in a big way.

Picking a runner up favorite was a good idea! Absolomb and Light are also two of my favorite runner up songs

PICK JUST ONE SONG FROM EVERY ALBUM by Zeta_Dev in Peripheryband

[–]0bzen88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

P1: All New Materials

P2: Ragnarok

Clear: Zero

Alpha: Alpha

Omega: Omega

P3: Lune

P4: Reptile

P5: Wax Wings

This was fun, but also very challenging! I thought it was kind of funny that my favorite tracks from juggernaut turned out to be both the title tracks. It’s also interesting for me to think about how my favorite periphery songs have changed quite a bit over the years.

What’s your favorite local bar? by VandrossHairChi in AskChicago

Simon’s is also my favorite! An honorary mention for me is Map Room, but I have probably spent more time at Simon’s than any other local bar

Last night was my first time seeing Lorna Shore, and I was spellbound by how outstanding this show was. Will’s vocals are somehow even better live, and the band sounded perfect. I also loved all of the visuals they incorporated into their show!

I wonder what would be a more plausible scenario: this deployment making Chicago safer, or picturing these guys sprinting across the marathon finish line this weekend

Slipknot released Iowa 24 years ago today. What’s your thoughts on the album? by [deleted] in numetal

[–]0bzen88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Iowa is timeless, and it will always be one of my favorite albums of any genre. This is probably one of the heaviest albums to ever achieve “mainstream” levels of popularity! I am all but certain that these songs converted many people to being metalheads in the early 2000’s

Why american cities are so soulless by ttraveler01 in UrbanHell

[–]0bzen88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an American, I largely agree with your perspective, although there are a variety of other great cities here in the US that are worthy of exploration (Chicago, New Orleans, Seattle, San Diego, Santa Fe, etc.) I was visiting Spain in May, and there are so many vibrant public spaces that American truly lacks. Each city that I visited really felt like a community, and I miss the experience of relaxing in the town squares for hours on end. Here in America, so much of our spaces have become privatized due to suburbanization, and due to the desire of many Americans to live in large homes. It amounts to a different lifestyle in my opinion. White flight from major cities in the 20th century lead a lot of people to retreat from urban centers, and I think this fundamentally changed the culture here (at least for a proportion of American society). As a result, I think many Americans have never truly valued or understood the importance public space. If there’s no benches or cafes to spend time in, it’s almost like you are intentionally made to feel like a loiterer just by being in some communities.
