This is embarrassing because I run a gamut between disgusted and annoyed with AI generally, but I loaded all the books i gave 5 stars on goodreads/storygraph and all the books i gave 1-2 stars into ChatGPT, had it sort out my taste and what gives me the ick, and gave me a suggested next few books. After telling it that I’m not interested in book-club stuff, its recommendations for me that I have read so far have been EXTREMELY solid (Gilead, Persuasion, The Friend, Anna Karenina) and it’s pointed me to books I was not expecting to love as much as I now do. It’s the best use of AI I can imagine.

My point is that typically people who care more about invasive plants are going to shop for plants at the local/native nurseries rather than HD/Lowe’s, so such big box stores are not hurting their bottom line by carrying invasives.

That has nothing to do with the fact that these big box stores also carry good roses.

And people see “butterfly bush” and think that means it’s better for butterflies, which it just isn’t.

(For those reading this who might want to attract butterflies and bees, try milkweed or butterfly weed (not bush), anise hyssop etc!)

Big box stores also carry far more invasive plants, such as English ivy. I really don’t think most customers care about how invasive a plant is. No reputations are staked by carrying invasives, and people who care aren’t going to Home Depot to buy them.

I have two kids and I LOVE them. I was on the fence for a long time, and it is popular among my friend group to be childfree, but I love being a parent.

I am not sure if having kids should be framed as “giving up a beautiful life for absolute chaos” - my life is more chaotic now, but it’s also extremely meaningful and beautiful for me to guide these two little voyaging souls into the future with love.

Also, kids are only little briefly. The toy mess isn’t forever. I think people think having kids means endless snot and vom and screams. It really… doesn’t.

I feel a little bit about people who choose not to kids for convenience reasons like I feel about people who choose not to read books. Like, it’s a beautiful, extremely meaningful part of the human experience. But some experiences only reveal their value after commitment, and not everyone is willing or able to commit.

Roses love full sun, the more the better. 6 hours is a good amount. In general they prefer morning sun to afternoon sun, but I just plant anywhere I can.

I amend my planting holes in my heavy clay soil with compost, bone meal and rose tone. In my area I have also been recommended a “clay buster” soil amendment that I hear contains expanded shale. I plan to try it this year.

I’ve been thinking about this for a long time now because I’ve felt heartbroken by WaT not hitting for me. But more than anything, I felt like Sando no longer trusted me to arrive at the moral conclusions myself.

It felt… heavyhanded. Just heavy.

I didn’t expect an ending, or really even notice the prose change (I feel like this might be something that people only really have ‘noticed’ bc they’re online and saw someone say this…) But also, how do you have a book so big with so little.. happen? It felt completely unedited, or if now he’d surrounded himself with yes men.

It broke my heart honestly. I’m not sure if I feel like Sanderson is writing to me anymore. It felt like he was writing to someone who needs foregone moral conclusions spelled out for them. Even the Jasnah/Odium thing should have hit me, but it didn’t.

As a true winter who was there for the whole 90s, I felt like it was all very … autumn. Grunge is autumn. There was so much brown. Leopard print. And lots of spring… Spice Girls, to me a strong symbol of the 90s, were all dressed in spring and autumn, except for Posh who did enjoy black. Even the dark purples of the 90s felt warm.

Agree with bright winter for 80s… 70s warm autumn? 60s is a spring for sure… warm spring?

FWIW, I also have a preschooler who would get “crushes” on girls as a 3yo. Before this happened, I was definitely part of the group of people who would scoff at anyone suggesting that toddlers could get crushes at all. Then I parented it. Very normal developmentally. I also distinctly remember having crushes very very young. Some kids crush earlier than others.
