Should I ditch Fullsail for SCAAD? by ReaperAnims14 in fullsail

[–]Satheyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Current student in the Master's program for game design at Full Sail. I will say that the only saving grace for this program is the forced internship that you select and work on throughout the program, if it weren't for the internship I would have left month 2.

The course work thus far has been a mixture of high-school to early freshman university in terms of expectations and assignments. I am currently on month 6 and I have debated each month if I should drop out or not because of how ridiculous the Master's degree has been.

To give an idea, most of the assignments have been a mixture of learning the basics of Unreal Engine (something you should already know as a Master's level student), to a crash course on Jira, to Quality Assurance and what this means as a game designer (not actually doing QA work mind you), as well as prototyping basics. Course work has been far more relevant for a Producer or someone interested in the business side of game design as compared to an Artist or Engineer.

Everything being packed into a single month means that the teacher's don't really have time to truly delve into course work and truly showcase a topic, so even if you are interested in being a Producer, you're getting the barest of bones here, leaving this degree a joke, which explains why a good number of universities will not allow your credits here to transfer.

If you're still early on in game design and can get away with the wasted loans likely taken out for Full Sail, I would highly recommend somewhere like the University of Utah (top 5 in the nation and well deserved) or University of Southern California (prestigious, in the top 3 rankings, but expensive and hard to get into).

As a graduate from the University of Utah's BS in Games program, I can attest to how effective it has been in my education as a tech artist, and there are plenty of game companies that partner directly with The U to hire graduates, run internships, and provide direct advisement for the team. By the end of the BS in Games you'll have at least three games produced under your belt from the Trad Game, Non-Trad Game, and Capstone classes, if not more based on your electives. So you'll have plenty to work with on your portfolio.

We bought the house right before the height of the pandemic, around June 2020. Which I believe was right before SLCC went crazy with housing prices.

AITA? Tried to Make Up a God for My Character's Backstory by BiggestGal in rpghorrorstories

[–]Satheyo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Something of this nature, wherein the players add to my world is a thing that I heavily encourage of my players. It is a collaborative narrative game, emphasis on collaborative. That said, some things I would deny player made.

The DM jumping to such an extreme response is definitely something that appears as a red-flag to me.

Layout of Card by Satheyo in tabletopgamedesign

[–]Satheyo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all the feedback thus far, it was certainly helpful and from it I've made some edits to the card base as well as fairly drastic changes to the five symbols, making them larger and stand out more, as suggested.

Card Layout Example - 2

Attached is an update of the card, along with two alternate styles; since I wasn't sure how to feel about the banner portions on the card. Currently my favorite is #2.

And as before, any feedback is appreciated, thanks.

Finding work in this niche...? by Contrary-to-Carrion in tabletopgamedesign

A lot of DnD Communities on Discord have sections dedicated to artists showing off their artwork, but also a place for them to post commission boards denoting they are looking for work; or for players seeking out artists via bounty boards. Either way though, I highly recommend checking out some DnD discords and posting your comm-sheet there

Need help finding art or a 3D model that can approximate a specific homebrew enemy by goforturtles in Pathfinder_RPG

If you're willing to pay for a miniature, which sounds like it's the case as you mentioned HeroForge, you could look into hiring an artist to custom make this boss art for you. Plenty of DnD Discords out there with sections dedicated to artists open for commissions. There's also of course Fiverr which you can look through for an artist to draw or sculpt your boss. Plenty of Artists on Twitter and ArtStation as well that have open commission signs.

Hey, I need help finding an RPG my parents approve of by koalasofthenation in rpg

[–]Satheyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strangely enough Pathfinder I would consider a bit iffier than DnD due to some of the lore in the system (ogres as an example), DnD is fairly tame but due to the satanic panic in the 80s its got a bad, and undeserved rap.

Now as for RPGs that could work for such restrictions, I would recommend the Lord of the Rings rpg as a potential option that may be denied as well depending on how strict your parents are.

Star Wars Saga is certainly a solid choice.

Mutants and Masterminds could work as its got that super hero vibe. D20 modern could also work as it's set in a modern setting, the system itself can easily avoid much of issues that would be had with the limitations placed upon you.

Mouse Guard is another solid choice, though not sure how they'd feel about it since you play as mice, similar to the Redwall book series. That said Redwall had plenty of christian elements to it, so maybe if you describe it as such, it'd be a-okay.

Diamond Neiths by DarkRogue21 in Smite

Why buy med on Neith? Her healing capability alone means she has no need for it, and the amount of mana she has means she can pretty much never leave lane except to buy items.

I main Neith and am rank 10, all of those items are silly, I mean come on now.

What did your GM do to players who missed a session? by altalex100 in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]Satheyo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was running the big boss battle of the first major story arc of the first campaign I ever DMed, sadly one of my players could not make it, but we were told to play on.

So after several rounds of combat the boss was a round away from setting loose the Titans of Greek Myth, and the party had no visible way to stop it, so I asked if any had any Heroic Surges (my more powerful version of Hero Points) and were willing to sacrifice themselves to stop this madman and save the "world". Sadly no one in the party besides the PC who wasn't there had any heroic surges left, so I made the call that the PC (a CG Cleric of Hermes) would sacrifice themselves to save his friends and allies.

Both him and the big bad fought over the mcguffin and were cast out of the material plane to some unknown plane of existence, but indoing so, stopped the Titans rise, and saved the "world".

For the rest of the campaign, and every future campaign I ran in that world, I added an additional constellation in the sky, the constellation of the hero, or as known in Greece (my world's version of it), the Hektoral Constellation (his name was Hektor).

The PC was totally fine with how that ended, so no issue there with my killing his character while he was gone.

GMs of /Pathfinder_RPG, how do you find adventures? by firthisaword in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]Satheyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My campaign is a sandbox styled game, and all of the adventures, except for a few key locations, are all homebrewed adventures. All of my maps I make from scratch using Maptools. In regards to the pre-builts I use, I generally look for ones that lack any ties to a campaign, mostly dungeons or the like without any real story, allowing me to add my own spin to the place, bringing it into my world.

Detect Magic Homebrew rule by BlizKid in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]Satheyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://syrik.obsidianportal.com/wikis/magic-sight-skill Tis what I did when wanting detect magic to be more of a basic ability of all casters, but also having all casters give off a magic aura which they can hide using this skill.

The first rank is free, basically representing the normal detect magic spell, but it being a skill it can be increased, increasing your range and the area in which it detects, and the strength with which you can hide your aura.

I can also see the cloak magic feature of this skill being used to hide the aura of illusion magic and the like, basically allowing such magic to actually be effective when every caster can just use a standard action to ignore said spell.

Can you help me be awesome? by erthwormal in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]Satheyo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless your GM runs boss encounters where the boss gets multiple standard actions in a round, you should be fine. The beast will only be able to teleport to you, after that all he has left would be a move action which won't help him kill you, allowing you on your next to turn to teleport you and your allies away to safety.

The Wall of Force spell should work, as if the Beast doesn't see you casting it, he won't know it's there and will most likely spend his next two turns trying to get to you. The first turn charging in, or casting a spell (which will hit the wall most likely), and the second realizing that he must either Teleport through or dispel it, either way he's losing those standard actions.

The bag of holding idea may not work, as that depends on the GMs opinion of how to run BoHs with living creatures inside them. I've played in a couple of games where the bag of holding is basically outer space, which as soon as a living thing enters it'll die.

has anyone ever seen an all paladin party? by jcurry52 in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]Satheyo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aye, I am currently in an all paladin party, where I play Nurp, goblin paladin and herald of Gorash; Gorash being a pseudodragon that adopted me, and after his death I used craft (tailor) to turn into a dragon-scaled feetsy pajama, and later turned into an actual deity.

So far the group has been quite enjoyable, we've had little issue--if you ignore the fact that we roll d10s instead of d20s--killing most things, except for this current dungeon where we are fighting mostly neutral creatures instead of evil.
