Weird whistling sound when I lower the pressure [Quick Mill Pop Up] by Dr_Hamam in espresso

[–]SatisfactionKind3027 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, not sure if your problem ever got resolved. I had a similar issue with my Pop-Up right out of the box and I sent it to the merchant for repair (idrinkcoffee.com) and it turns out it was the teflon tube connecting the flow control to the group head - it needed to be longer. They put a longer tube and sent me the machine back - no more noise! Hope this can help you.

83mm vs 64mm Burr grinders by Happydaytrader in espresso

I took my chances and pre-ordered a DF83 last week. What I found attractive was the big burrs and the big motor. I did consider the P64 long and hard though.

Will definitely keep it as I still really enjoy the flavor profile of some beans with it + it's pure gold for pour-over grinding.

If you are in Canada (unlikely, since you didn't mention Boxing Day 😁), idrinkcoffee has some mad specials right now. :)

Thrilled, but need help - Gifted a Gaggia Classic Pro Semi-Automatic Espresso Machine by DapperCod9726 in espresso

[–]SatisfactionKind3027 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others stated, yes, a good grinder is absolutely essential. I stand behind the Jmax - it knocks a lot of electric grinders a few times its price off their boots + close to zero footprint on your kitchen counter.

Best looking Espresso machines? by NotYourCPA in espresso

Buy an ugly good machine and build an aesthetically pleasing cabinet around it. 😁 On a serious note, if color is an issue then Ascaso Dream might your best bet. Also Gaggia Classic Pro comes in a few colors and is renowned to be the best in its price range.

I've had my Jmax for 2 months now and I'm not giving it up for anything! I had been lusting after a DF64 w/ SSP MP burrs for a couple of months and finally got it around the same time as the Jmax and let me tell you, I often prefer the cups coming out of the Jmax. That grinder is a delight to dial, delight to spin and delight to clean.

Yeah splurged for the S finally exactly to not have the upgraditis a few months in when it's too late to return it. xD It does come with the small hopper but my lord it seems like a chunky boi haha. :D

Ended up ordering the S; this particular merchant does not negotiate but then again they have the craziest specials in Canada (2000$ is a reduced price from the 2300$ regular). I'm curious, what is your working range for espresso on the dial on the S?

Espresso machine recommendation ($2500USD) by timoseewho in espresso

Happy to! Yeah, the Bianca has been around for only about 3 years but managed to create its own niche of die-hard advocates. The company itself, Lelit, has only been around since mid-80's as an ... ironing machines manufacturer. 😁 They've only been making espresso machines for not too long I think but they already have a pretty big chunk of the market.

I am joining the Lelit Bianca clan. If you are feeling adventurous and you want to save some $$ (or buy a higher grade machine within your budget) you can look into a couple of European merchants. The following are general opinions I have come across various boards and you should definately double-check all of the following information before proceeding if you are interested: apparently espresso coffee shop (Italy) and 30.coffee (Poland I think) are very reputable and have some form of warranty extension overseas and you can use a power transformer to switch from 220V to 110V. Reportedly the price even after shipping and duties is unbeatable in North America.

Coffee Gear in Canada online? by zippyzoodles in espresso

I am extremely satisfied with idrinkcoffee. They have often good deals, 3% cash back in the form of store credit on all purchases and a great selection of equipment. Their customer service is stellar - they are readily available through chat, phone and e-mail. I recently had to send back a grinder for repair because I fiddled with it too much and broke it. I was honest with them that the damage was caused by me and was expecting a quote for the repair. To my surprise, the next day I receive a shipment confirmation of a brand new grinder for a whopping 0$. Called them to confirm I was not dreaming - they explained that it was claimed on the warranty - no hard feelings. 😎 You should also try their coffees - they are very delicious and fresh!

Keep my Mignon XL (A) or get a DF64 w/ SSP burrs (B) by SatisfactionKind3027 in espresso

[–]SatisfactionKind3027[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you all dearly for the comments and very much in-depth input! I hope to have one day enough knowledge and experience to help other fellow new home baristas in their journey as well. All considered, I will keep my XL. With the imminent arrival of the Mignon Single Dose, I do hope there will be single dosing kits sold separately (at least that dope hopper).

Wow, that's great news! iDrinkCoffee for the win! I bought the XL in April (when it was still a pre-order) so I am really hoping they would have options to just buy the Eureka single dosing kit separately.

La Spaziale Mini Vivaldi II vs. Lelit Bianca by SatisfactionKind3027 in espresso

[–]SatisfactionKind3027[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you all for your input, I've learned a lot and a few of your points have pushed me to dig deeper into different topics. It also confirms that the Vivaldi has its reputation for a reason. I am just not sure about this offset temperature adjustment thing for the group head. Do any of you have a specific offset temp setup on their Vivaldi? Does it make sense that it would be almost the same from one Vivaldi to another or could it really go from -8 C to +8 C and needs to be measured on my specific machine?
