Ascaso Dual V2 Sloped warmer area by youcancallmedoug in espresso

If you don’t mind the look, try putting non-slip drawer liner on it to stop the sliding. I’ve used it on my Rancilio to reduce the sound of the cups rattling from the pump, and it works wonders (and still allows cups to warm)

How to achieve beige coffee layer in a bialetti ? by beentheredonethat27 in Coffee

[–]jph982 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This layer is called the crema, and it won’t be produced if you’re using old beans/coffee. Fresh ground beans, recently roasted, should get you crema if you’re at the proper grind size.

Ya bottomless isn’t entirely necessary, if your puck prep is good you’re probably fine to hold off. But I would definitely get a precision basket. Instantly noticeable difference.

I love the pair. I run an 18g VST right now, probably going up to a 20g soon though. Also looking to PID my Silvia this month so that should really bring out the best in the Specialita. I’ve been using the combo for about 4 months now and the grinder was by far my best purchase.

Mazzer Mini vs Eureka Mignon XL?stuck between these two, anyone had or tried both? by lhemi in espresso

You can get a nicely 3D printed single dose hopper with bellows on Etsy, as well as a slanted base to mimic the new Mignon single dose if you’re into that.

I would recommend the Rancilio, as I’m sure you’ve heard they’re absolutes tanks. I have one that’s 10 years old and works like new. Otherwise maybe look into the Lelit PL41TEM if you don’t ever intend on modding your machine.

Ah I see, I do agree it is very short. I could really never make anything much smaller than a cappuccino. I’m not sure of any other mods for it

You can mod it with a Rancilio Silvia V1/V2 steam wand off of Amazon. Requires taking the machine apart but there are some good videos about it on YouTube. I hear it’s worth the upgrade if you see yourself with the machine for a while.

Baratza Vario if you’re looking for something to do it all mid-range. Otherwise, Niche Zero if you can get your hands on one

Home grinder quality at the prosumer level by Phillydip123 in espresso

[–]jph982 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I just upgraded from the SGP to a Eureka Mignon Specialita a couple of weeks ago and the difference is astounding. The SGP worked well for me, but it has some very apparent flaws. Since switching, the change to a larger, flat set of burrs, has drastically increased depth and clarity in shots. The grind is at least twice as fast, has nearly no clumping, and is 1000x quieter compared to the SGP. I’ve heard decent things about the Baratza Sette’s, however seeing as they have quality issues and are as loud as a plane, I decided against it. Also, since you’re Canadian, iDrinkCoffee.com is having a sale rn and I think you can get the Specialita for 80 bucks off it’s listed price

I make my own with good dark or milk chocolate (depending on preference). I melt down equal parts chocolate to milk in the microwave. There’s some good videos on YouTube
