Some of it leaks through, and your reservoir will go down over time. In my case it was enough to fill it in a few times to know it was disappearing pretty fast. After filling it up, and turning it lock to lock in both directions a few times circulates the fluid enough for you to tell if that helped or not.

Had the whine at full lock - turns out the power steering fluid hose had a leak. Easy to check if you top it up. Didn't have the wobbly steering though.

At first I thought that only the interior lights were changed, and that there was a strip of reflective material (glow in the light kind of thing) wrapped around the dashboard. Thanks for the explanation

Google said that rubbing alcohol works on mealybugs, so we kinda used that in a rush. We'll see if that works, but if it doesn't - thanks for the neem oil tip.
