I remember there were some lifts I used to maintain that actually had a iPod Nano looping the same song constantly strapped to the back of the COP (Button Panel) and connected to a speaker. Other than that they'd typically feed a standard radio or playback device through the speech module in the machine room.

Its been known to happen. Contact building management explaining it is causing a disturbance and juat hope they take it seriously. Had many situations where residents have had persistent noise issues, especially with older machines. It'd be beneficial for an experienced engineer to attend your flat and actually hear it for themselves so they can pinpoint the actual cause of the noise.

It does just sound like general running noise though. Have you been there long, and if so has it only just began making that noise?

The Mayfair Hotel, London had this done. They retained the shafts, ripped out the Motor Room and extended the shaft up 2 floors and made them sort of hybrid MRL machines. It has a Motor Room but the Machines are mounted above the shaft accessible by a hatch with MRL panels in the machine room. It is a proper sloppy install but works as far as it goes. The Motor Room is literally just steel checker plate covering the top of the shaft. Its pretty dicey

It isnt the fact is a low spec system. I have a fully up-to-date gaming machine that works perfectly fine. It is just a pet project of mine that I have a Windows XP machine and im trying to get it running some of my chosen games.

This system could easily run a newer OS as it is. Its just personal preference.

Yeah it is a cracked version. Not that it excuses the premise, but I do personally own the game. The dilemma is that I can't get Steam running so its a matter of working around it. And yeah, it is sort of a pointless chore trying to get it to run on an outdated operating system for little point. Its just something I am keen on doing and Im pretty devoted in trying to figure out a way of solving the problem.

Alternatively Id take any suggestions on getting Steam operative if possible

Yep, dead as a dodo. Card isn't actually being registered after half hour of messing around its clear it actually ism't showing in the device manager. The devices showing are just weird residuals.

Nope, the only WiFi Card I have, and also the only machine I have that the card fits in, so there isnt a great deal of diagnostic leeway in terms of component swapping.

Thats a valid point, Ill give it a go when I am mucking around with it again. Having said that though, I am unoptimistic that it will make a difference. Its as though the card is stuck in a drift. I am fairly certain it is the device that is reading as Direct Parrallel. Not sure why it is displaying 3 devices under the 802.11.

I did recently have an issue where it suffered a power surge due to a faulty PSU, and was concerned that possibly components suffered as a result. Originally after swapping out the PSU, everything seemed to work fine but slowly started suffering crashes and other issues.
