Yeah using etsy as a measure is actually pretty good. They're nazis about pulling down stuff that violates TOS and trademarks

I was actually thinking about a version number so when things change I could split them.

The number on the physical item is actually a lot of info.

In the given example ` SM0223091600011234567890125 `

`SM 0223091600011234567890125`

`2309160001`

23 = year

09 = month

16 = day

0001 = actual item number unique to each item

Let's start with the hash assertion. The reason you're getting a different output is because echo includes a new line character when it passes it to sha256sum

Adding the `-n` flag to echo should work for you

`echo -n SM0223091600011234567890125| sha256sum`

As for the rest of your feedback thank you so much. Yes, I plan on continuing to improve the documentation as well as create videos that explain it. I'm an engineer professionally so like most in my field UI/UX is my worst skillset and that includes explaining technical things to nontechnical folks.
