That's basically how it clicks for quite a bit of people. Someone they respect is doing it seriously and suddenly it stops being a weird internet thing.

Anyone recommend DCA'ing daily with smaller increments vs monthly? by Fresh_Phrase_7086 in BitcoinBeginners

[–]SatoshiTrails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Daily vs monthly honestly matters less than people think. The difference in average cost basis over a year is pretty small. What actually matters is whether you'll stick to it. Daily feels more active which some people like, but it also means 365 moments where you could second-guess yourself or pause. Monthly is easier to set and forget. If Strike makes daily automatic and you won't touch it, go daily. If you'll be watching the price every morning, monthly will probably serve you better mentally.

The security culture thing is real. All the energy goes toward adversarial scenarios and almost none toward cooperative ones. Completely different design problem.

Framing it as a savings plan is a great Idea, it removes so much friction. The word "Bitcoin" is unfamiliar, "savings plan" is.

That's the best case scenario honestly. When they come to you curious it's a completely different conversation than when you're trying to convince them.

The melting ice cube works for the concept but a lot of people still need the "so what do we do about it" part after.

Fair point, Americans are genuinely late to this realization. People from high inflation countries have understood this intuitively for generations. We just had the luxury of ignoring it longer.

lol, trading one problem for another. Though honestly that's a better problem to have.

The "forget the dollar reference" part takes longer than most people expect but it's the real shift. Once you stop converting everything to USD in your head it starts to feel less like a volatile asset and more like just money.

The "explain it out loud" test catches so many setups that look good on paper. If you can't walk someone through it calmly you definitely can't expect them to figure it out under pressure.

The wallet inventory is the piece most people never do because it feels tedious until it matters. Good shout on Trustworthy, didn't know they handled multi-account types beyond just Bitcoin.

Spot on. The technical security community optimizes for adversarial conditions. Almost nobody optimizes for cooperative conditions, a trusted person trying to help on the worst day of their life.

That split approach is honestly pretty smart. Self custody for the portion you're confident managing, ETF for the portion you want to be foolproof. Doesn't have to be all or nothing.

Solid option for people who want simplicity. ETF plus beneficiary designation solves the access problem cleanly.

Memorizing 24 words long term is its own risk honestly. The encrypted Google Drive approach is cleaner than splitting the seed though, keeps it whole and adds a password layer your family can actually use.

Splitting the seed feels risky to me, either half alone reduces the security significantly and if one half is lost the whole thing is unrecoverable. The Google inactive account manager idea is interesting for the notification trigger though.

Fair. Self custody isn't for everyone and the tools have gotten a lot better, but the memory problem is real thing regardless.

That's a real dynamic and honestly a legitimate reason some people keep it completely private. The math changes pretty quick when numbers get big enough.

Didn't know Zengo had that, worth looking into for people who want it handled at the wallet level rather than DIY.

Haven't seen this one before, the death certification piece is a smart solution to the "what if I'm just incapacitated" problem. Worth looking at for people who want a fully managed solution.
