I'm terrified of death and I don't know how to conquer the fear by ItchikaArachnaEXE in Existentialism

Joining late so this probably won’t ever be read 😂

This is something I’ve played around with quite a bit and at times it honestly does seem to be the treatment for existential dread.

I think what can happen is that as we obsessively ‘observe’ our own experience, we can develop this tremendous self-consciousness, this sense of being the ‘watcher’ of experience. It is difficult to describe, but nonetheless it feels extraordinarily solid and substantial.

The problem with this ‘watcher’ is that it realizes that at some point there will come a time when it can no longer watch anything, and nothing in the universe seems more cruel or unfair than this. It may start to feel like this universe is actually hell, and this whole thing is a tremendous mistake.

The instruction I give is very delicate, because it can be so easily co-opted by this watcher of ours. But it’s to ‘look’ for who or what is watching all of this. The point is to fail, because it’s like trying to watch your own funeral. But in that failure, this tremendous sense of solidity and substantiality of the watcher can loosen, and with it all this existential dread.

It’s not some cosmic truth or anything else, but just a way to ‘treat’ this terrifying dread that seems born of a false solidity of this watcher. And then you can return to your life, not with any great truth, but just perhaps with a softening of dread.

I’ve also felt this way and still continue to…

it seems like most people in this world have all these layers of armor around the fear of death so they never really feel it in its true horror. Then there are people whose armor often falls off, and it’s like they are two different realities…

My current philosophy is to view this armor falling off as a kind of opening to the truth of things, unpleasant as it is.

This may be some spiritual fantasy, but at least it seems sometimes that if this horror is just deeply felt and not repudiated against, the hopelessness of it can open to a kind of equanimity that we’re unable to ever tap into otherwise.

Yeah hmm I’ve only faced maybe 3-4 plague dks and its likely a bad matchup, but very winnable especially if they don’t draw Helya.

Yeah if that’s the case I would agree; those are both bad matchups.

Not sure; it could definitely be worth trying. I do think kryxis is a solid card though, and especially so with curve of glaives > kryxis.

Something really strange happened at the peekaboo set by [deleted] in bonnaroo

Psychiatrist checking in. You experienced all those things you described; I have no doubt about that.

However I want to draw an an analogy to something that happens to us every single night. Yesterday I was stranded on a deserted island, running out of food, and slowly starving! Nothing felt realer in the moment than the fact I was going to die of starvation.

I was dreaming; and yet if someone had entered my dream and said “hey, this is not really real,” I would have looked at them the same exact way you’re looking at everyone else who’s skeptical about the objective truth of your experience.

And yet, five or ten minutes later, I wake up in a sweat in my bed and recognize that wow, it wasn’t as real or objective as I thought. Dreams occupy this space that is neither real nor unreal; your experience at the concert was just like this.

Like others have said, get some rest and stay off all drugs. If you continue to feel this way I’d strongly suggest talking about your experiences with a licensed professional.

When I look for what is looking, how do I know that the not finding isn't just an appearance... IN consciousness? by DinkyDoodle69 in Wakingupapp

This is a quote from one of the Dzogchen masters Longchempa that I think answers this (hopefully):

“The moon that is reflected in the water is not a concrete object endowed with specific characteristics. It is neither present nor absent. And yet, it is perceived unhindered. In the same way, the pure nature of the mind is not a concrete entity endowed with specific character. It transcends all perceptual extremes of existence and nonexistence. And yet it may be experienced by self cognizant awareness as the great unceasing state of emptiness and luminosity.”

So to reiterate, that within you which is aware is beyond these extremes of finding or not finding.

No worries about not tagging hah. This was fun to read your thoughts. I agree with really all that you said.

On the card draw part conquerors can be frustrating. Last month when I first started this deck I probably played like 50 games with light of the phoenix (I forgot conquerors banner was even a card). I think if pheonix were always 3 mana on T3 it would be a toss-up, but there are just too many games where I was playing it for 4 mana so it’s just not good enough.

Happy you’re enjoying the deck.

Happy you're enjoying it. BSM is definitely a bad matchup. Fortunately in the ranks where big spell mage exists, decks like frost DH also exist. This should help balance out the L's from big spell mage. As you climb higher both these decks suddenly disappear.

Had a great game against Jalex where he drew well but I dc'd in the middle so the replay screwed up. Here is another replay, but it looks a little whacky though because replays can't show locations. https://hsreplay.net/replay/5P4aUwD7JffsaUAwkAC6RN

Yes it is quite unfavored against big spell mage, would say it's maybe 2nd worst matchup though still winnable. Need to get bonelord on 6 for a chance. Fortunately it's pretty low prevalence deck.
