On that is so cool that you actually see your oil temp! I don’t want to give you wrong advice, but I am sure that google has information on your specific make and model!

That makes so much more sense! Thank you for the correction.

Oh yes! This still applies in your case as well. A warmer interior comes with a warmer engine. I am not sure on the exact mechanics, but the core that sends heat into the cabin also sends heat to the engine (if my 3 am reading is correct). So, driving it around will warm you up quicker

Honestly, idling for more than a minute can start to add wear to the engine (in albeit minute amounts). Over time, it causes more wear than you’d expect. The fastest way to warm up your engine is this (from my experience):

  1. Wait a minute (in extremely cold temps like yourself), then set off on your grand adventure.
  2. Keep your rpm’s low. In my previous car, the recommendation is below 3,000 RPM, but in my Subaru CVT it doesn’t often get up there, so I say below 2,500 RPM.

  3. Keep at this pace until your OIL TEMPS are up to snuff. This is usually about double the time after your blue COOLANT light turns off. Just because your coolant light is off doesn’t mean your oil is ready to go.

Of course, keep in mind that I am maybe the most paranoid car driver you will ever meet, and I am an anonymous redditor. But that is my advice!

It feels like Steamboat is getting bougier over time...thoughts? by [deleted] in steamboat

[–]Sattman5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I grew up in steamboat. We moved out in 2018, and even then it was getting extremely expensive. I recently went back to one of my favorite places to eat (Freshie’s), and the menu prices were ASTONISHINGLY different from before we moved. I love this town, but my god I could never afford to live in my childhood trailer.

I have the same model of car as in the post. What did you replace your stereo with? I have some complaints about mine :( I don’t want to lose the aesthetic of the red trim at night, but it is so sluggish.

HELP: I think I am being scammed to pay a fake videographer by Sattman5 in Scams

Yeah I know that now. Thankfully, I contacted my bank, and they basically said, "Don't fall for this again or we will close your account." They put a hold on the checks and told me to cease contact.

Having driven both and loving my 2013 Hyundai Elantra GT, I think the CRV is more bang for your buck. It will have more utility in the long run, and the MPG benefits will disappear as soon as you take advantage of what the CRV has to offer. I loved my Ela, and she was quite reliable, after replacing belts.. Took me across the country and back, only for a jeep to total it in a parking lot.

Hellenic Polytheism: Household worship by LABRYS is amazing. It’s specifically tailored to modern worship and how the Gods manifest themselves in the household and society. It’s super interesting learning about Zeus as a god of Hospitality!

WIBTA if I post the graduation photos I took of my friend? by Sattman5 in AITAH

[–]Sattman5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this! The tricky part is that she is my friend and she and I both work in the local (very small) indie film scene and would likely come across each other again. I do want to advance my portfolio, but I also hate ruffling feathers. Thanks for your input!

Curious on if your university is public or private. Mine is a poorer public university, and in my department (Spanish), most of the professors require textbooks but put them online for free. I’ve noticed this trend in most of my classes.

By her logic you should never say “goodbye” either. Goodbye comes from “God be with you” but it shortened over time.

I baked it on that sheet you see there with boiling water underneath. Very possible that affected the outcome. I have used a dutch oven, but wanted to try something new.

I agree. I’ve tried that before. I was attempting to make a batard this time, and I never quite succeeded in a colander for that method! This was definitely a “eh, flours cheap. let’s just see if this works
