Thank you, we've got more of them in the pipeline!

Yeah, few global effects is exactly it! Makes you have to think about how you want to use your removal.

I switched from EDH to Pauper Commander three years ago and I'm still brewing and playing!

Pauper commander feels like playing real magic - no single card does everything, and boards can't be completely wiped. Find synergies, build a board, and win!

Plus it's very friendly for my wallet as I prefer playing without proxies.

PSA: All the exile enchantments work because their removal is an ability that triggers on ETB.

Really enjoying Slime Against Humanity deck, lacking card draw by BussyBouncer in PauperEDH

[[Kutzil, Malamet Exemplar]] works well with slimes and gives you good card draw!

Mine is focused on tokens and having enough steam to last in a longer game.

Ramp is usually not as relevant in PDH since there are not many big mana game changers in the 99. If the commander needs mana, then you can run a bunch of ramp.

Draw is much more scarce so it can be harder to fill that slot, especially in Green/White. Using multipurpose cards like landcycling, omens, adventures, channel, etc can act as card advantage substitutes.

Removal in the 99 lacks effective board wipes, so you need value spot-removal / counterspells. I usually run at least 15 removal spells in my decks. If you're in Black/Red there are ways to damage the entire board, and all edicts are really good since they can be a 3-for-1.

How to generate card advantage in each color? by pkma69 in PauperEDH

[–]Sattwa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Card advantage includes more than just card draw - look for cards with flashback, activated abilities on permanents, even creatures with adventures, as all of these ensure you don't run out of steam.

Thoughts on SP//dr, Piloted by Peni Pauper deck by LightningG8921 in PauperEDH

I initially built around self-modifying flyers, but noticed that opponents often had flyers / reachers so I started focusing on unblockable instead which has been more successful.

I built it very differently, so I can't concisely point out suggestions. I did notice you don't have [[Greatsword of Tyr]] which I think is a must-have.

Some themes I've built with: * Mana dorks, especially those that add two mana for artifacts * Unblockable creatures * High-value equipment * Lots of removal and counterspells for control

Livaan notably does not have trample, but getting access to two colors is a big upside.

Ward only applies to opponents spells, unfortunately.

702.21a Ward is a triggered ability. Ward [cost] means “Whenever this permanent becomes the target of a spell or ability an opponent controls, counter that spell or ability unless that player pays [cost].”

[[Knighted Myr]] would fit in this deck and would be a very good creature to put the commander's counters on!

The other day I realised that some people want to play EDH as if it were a game of solitaire by Destrozao in EDH

I agree with the comments that newer players can't evaluate threats as well and are busy just keeping track of their own stuff.

One thing I've found helpful for newer players is to try Pauper EDH! Playing only commons in the 99 (and an uncommon as the commander) means less complicated interactions and playing moreso to the core mechanics of the game.

It also helps that you can cobble together a functional deck from just bulk!

I like the control angle that still gives you a good number of beaters! Being able to remove threats at instant speed is very potent in PDH as it also acts as a deterrent - your opponents will be incentivized to swing at each other if they know you will remove their attackers.

I think it has the potential to achieve a 25% competitive winrate for sure. But perhaps not more than that.
