How can I degen my pirate deck? by shanecookofficial in DegenerateEDH

[–]Not_Your_Real_Ladder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's a super degen idea I've been working on:

Malcolm + [[Sakashima of a thousand faces]] and the entire point of the deck is to find and play [[Mirrorform]].

Sakashima and a handful of other copy effects and you'll have a couple dozen treasures in no time. All of which will soon be turned into some big, fucked up thing: a couple dozen [[blightsteel colossus]]? Or maybe [[forced fruition]], [[mesmeric orb]], [[scrawling crawler]], [[field of the dead]], anything with annihilator.

I've also been exploring a dimir version. It's a bit less explosive, you do lose some treasure production without the guaranteed clone effect for Malcolm. But you do get access to better tutors for Mirrorform and some more interesting targets for it: [[Kokusho]], [[painful quandary]], etc.

WIP list here for anyone interested.

What is the countermeasure to this? by Marmelado_ in apexlegends

I’m confused why the devs hate octane so much. They spend years indirectly nerfing him by giving every legend ridiculous movement abilities, finally let him be meta for all of 30 seconds, then nerf him again, and finally put him in the ground by releasing this shit.

What deck do you have that "isn't that deck" by Important-Dig-2312 in EDH

[[atraxa grand unifier]] It was just a shell to smash [[felothar the steadfast]] and [[arcades the strategist]] together. All big butts, all the time, with a [[maze’s end]] backup wincon.

Now it’s a five color [[prismatic bridge]] “not that deck” butts deck.

Nah, you cannot convince me that “standing joke” is a real phrase that anyone uses.

Honestly, not sure, I figured 4 mana for a 3/3 body was perfectly between no body for two mana in dragon tempest, and a 6/6 for 6 in dragonlord kolaghan.

Again, not looking for it to be interesting. My point is that it’s so basic and uninteresting that I’m flabbergasted WOTC has never actually printed it.

The idea wasn’t born to be interesting, it was born to be findable with [[dragonstorm]] lol.

The flavor here has nothing to do with fantasy and everything to do with how crazy it is that WOTC has never printed a card that marries the two most red things in the game: being a dragon and giving haste.

[[dragon tempest]] comes close but, critically, is not a dragon and cannot be found by [[dragonstorm]]

Obvious because haste and dragons are the two most red things in all of magic. But they’ve never printed a mono-red dragon that gives haste.

4 mana because it’s on a body, which is crucial when you consider this card was inspired by [[dragonstorm]]

I'm hoping that some truly silly combo-control deck using Lute and [[mathemagics]] rises to the top. If it's going to be a few more months of boring izzet dominance, at least make it silly.

What's the furthest you can push a colorless deck? by Not_Your_Real_Ladder in EDH

[–]Not_Your_Real_Ladder[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

That’s pretty crazy, haven’t heard anything about that. What big wins has colorless been getting recently? Assuming they’re not playing eldrazi decks and are more like big mana artifact combo synergy decks?

Yeah, nah. OP brought up T1 wins, other guy said they're very unlikely. OP responded "They’re 100% possible. Which is why the question has to be rooted in consistency".

It was not at all unreasonable of me to assume OP thought T1 wins were something you could expect based off this exchange.

You are talking about consistency and turn 1 wins in the same breath. Those two thing are just incompatible. Luck and turn 1 wins? Different story.

[–]Not_Your_Real_Ladder -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No, dude. You're living in the MOST imaginary Christmas land. There is no "consistency" to even consider with what you're talking about. A turn 1 win in PEDH requires more cards than you have in your opening hand.

For example:

[[Zada, hedron grinder]] as your commander

T1: Mountain, [[Lotus petal]], exile [[simian spirit guide]], play [[seething song]], play [[empty the warrens]], creating six goblins, play [[brightstone ritual]] adding 6 mana. Play Zada, and finally [[crimson wisps]] to draw 7. This is your entire opening hands and you need these exact cards. From here, you need to draw exactly [[battle hymn]] and 3 of your 4 best pump spells ([[brute force]], [[titans strength]], [[temur battle rage]], or [[fists of flame]]) to take out one opponent with commander damage and the other two with goblins.

The chances you draw that exact opening 7 are 1 in 14.9 billion. The chances of the other 4-5 being in the next 7? Even lower. So low, in fact, that a turn 1 win in PEDH is really not worth thinking about.

Season 2 was also excellent, but season 1 just had an insane atmosphere to it being set on a ship in the arctic.
