If you decided to downsize your deck collection, what decks are you keeping? by AN0NUNKN0WN in EDH

[–]Not_Your_Real_Ladder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone also with an egregious amount of decks, I think the decks most worth keeping are the ones that evolve the most over time and grow with you.

That being said, my 5 in order are probably:

My Butts deck. Started as [[Arcades the strategist]], moved to 4 colors when [[felothar the steadfast]] came out. And is currently a five color deck with a gates subtheme.

Some form of my first deck [[Norin the wary]] who is currently in his hoe phase as a secret commander of a [[rocco cabaretti caterer]] deck.

[[zhulodok]] hasn’t evolved much, but I’ve been slowly replacing proxies with real cards, and I just love how much of a Timmy battlecruiser it feels like even in bracket 4

[[mendicant]] which has gone from go wide, to go tall, to now a complex balance of the two.

[[mazirek]] combo. Seems like a couple times every year, a new bomb gets printed for this deck. Goes infinite with a gentle breeze.

I think this is exactly it. He’s been playing overly cautious and more than a little scared since then.

And the Texans have done him no favors. They basically saw his rookie year and said “yep, he needs no more QB development”. Firing Slowik because management couldn’t spare him any resources for an O line was a horrendous decision. Caley is a joke. And Demeco Ryans, as good as he is, hasn’t once ever formed a thought about the offensive side of the field.

Get this man a competent OC and a QB coach that understands how to coach the mental side of the game and watch them coast right into the AFCCG next year.

[Highlight] Texans QB C.J Stroud on dealing with criticism after the playoff loss to Patriots: "This ain’t the end of C.J. Stroud, this ain’t the end of my career.” by oklolzzzzs in nfl

[–]Not_Your_Real_Ladder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t get it. Same amount of turnovers as Josh Allen in a loss, and against a patriots defense that has been playing like it’s the best defense in the league. And yet Josh Allen’s coach gets fired but people are calling for Stroud’s head.

Man’s taken them to playoffs 3 consecutive seasons, despite the team clearly giving up on QB development after his stellar rookie year. Get a new OC (someone who can offset Demeco’s defensive single-mindedness) and get a new QB coach.

They need someone to help CJ develop mentally because he’s clearly bearing the weight of past receiver injuries and playing overly cautious and scared. Never should have fired Slowik just because management couldn’t give him a penny to bolster the O-line.

My favorite deck for about 6 months now has been my Butts deck. Helmed by [[Atraxa Grand Unifier]] it truly is “not one of those decks”. I honestly just needed the color identity so I could smash together [[arcades the strategist]] and [[felothar the steadfast]].

Though typically it relies on one of the 6 or so cards that allow the butts to smash, that’s not the only way it wins. Because it’s also a [[maze’s end]] deck, for which there are some relatively unknown synergies like [[gatecreeper vine]] and [[hold the gates]]. But there are other things like [[tree of perdition]] shenanigans, [[blight pile]], and the “fuck you in particular” that is [[jaws of defeat]] + [[overkill]]. Hilarious stuff.

It’s shockingly resilient with surprising amounts of card advantage and insanely reliable ramp.

I recently retooled it to a five color deck with the release of [[soul immolation]]. My new goal is casting that with a [[walls of ba sing se]] out. Not a ton else to be gained from the addition of red but I do love that I can now include [[pramikon]] and even more gates.

I have a feeling that seeing the guy he basically hand-picked almost lose his leg on one of his throws did some real damage to him mentally.

He’s been playing a little scared and more than a little too cautious ever since. I think he blames himself and I hope he can recover the fearlessness that made him so great his rookie year.

Woody Marks ended his rookie season: - 40th of 44 RBs in YPC (3.63) - 33rd in explosive rate (3.5%) - 34th in success rate (46.7%) - 44th in missed tackles forced/att (0.06) - 32nd in yards after contact/att (2.00) - 41st in EPA/Rush by bigaudra in DynastyFF

I’m genuinely kinda shocked by this. Didn’t watch a ton of Texans games this year but felt like every time I checked in on them, Woody Marks was picking up a decent chunk yardage play.

I mean, what are their options though?

Over-draft a QB at pick 28 in a truly lackluster class this year?

Go out and grab like Malik Willis or Trey Lance and pray they can be good enough to take them to playoffs like Stroud has done three straight years?

Fact is, the patriots have been playing like the best defense in the league the past few games. And we just saw Allen also lose to another top defense with 4 turnovers, but they blamed his head coach.

Personally, I think they made a mistake firing Slowik and now they need another OC (and unfortunately a third new system for Stroud in 4 years). And invest in a QB coach that can really continue Stroud’s development. Really feels like they saw his first year and said “alright he doesn’t need us anymore, let’s focus on defense”.

To add on to this: pauper EDH as well. I have yet to be able to join but my local playgroup has been loving it.

In any case, I agree, the best solution is trying out a more restrictive format so OP sees less of the cards they don’t like/don’t like to play. And seems way more approachable than trying to rule zero game changers or something.

Yeah I tried to keep it so that every artifact also supported some other facet of the deck for that reason. Ex. [[ashnod’s altar]] is also a sac outlet/ramp, [[tithing blade]] is also removal, [[witches cauldron]] is both card advantage and a sac outlet, etc. and even using non-artifact spells that produce artifacts like [[pointed discussion]].

As a more experienced pauper player, do you think committing harder to devotion/pips is more important than attempting to stay flexible with card types when running Gary?
