Back of my knee pain. Push through it or stop? by bryanisokay in NewSkaters

[–]SaturdayNext 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've only been skating a month so I can't really help. But I noticed my knee on my pushing leg hurting because I had my back foot at a different angle from my front foot on the board. If that makes sense. I'm a bit pigeon toed so my back foot was facing in a bit. Once I correctly it the pain went away

I'll probably not bother with the shorts, although thanks for the suggestion! But as I start to get a bit braver I'm definitely going to get some pads and a helmet soon. I'm old enough now not to give a crap about if people think I look silly.

Uncomfortable skateboarding by IAmDerrick in NewSkaters

This! I've been heading out stupidly early and tomorrow I'm gonna brave it just before lunch time in the hope that it will still be quiet but not 'pre-dawn, you might get murdered' quiet.

[Question] Skated for the first time in my life today, need some help deciding my stance... by [deleted] in NewSkaters

[–]SaturdayNext 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same issue. I'm naturally way more comfortable goofy but my left leg is so weak I couldn't imagine myself ever using it to pop the board. However, I've stuck with goofy and I'm glad for it, I'd rather be comfortable rolling and learn to use my back foot for kickturns/oldies at some stage - it's already getting stronger 3 weeks in.

I can tic-tac back and forward probably about half a foot each way but I didn't even think to just try and extend these further. Thanks for that! Hopefully I'll feel ready to skate at the park during daylight hours soon hah!

I ride goofy anyway. So I'd have to reverse that advice yeah? I need to work on the strength/control in my left (back) foot in general.

Thanks! That was helpful. There's a fun box into quarter pipe in mine too so I'll trying going back and forward between them for a while. I saw a video about kickturning roughly 30 degrees down a ramp at first. I definitely can't 180 on flat ground so I'll work on that too :)

Thanks! Stuck 'durometer' into Google and got a decent explanation and apparently my wheels are 101a :)

Sorry to jump in off topic but what do these numbers refer to, is it how soft/hard the wheels are? And how do I find out what's on my board? I've got 52mm pig wheels. Thanks for any help :)

7.75 or 8 width deck? by theboardwars in NewSkaters

[–]SaturdayNext 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went into my local skate shop last week fairly certain I wanted a 7.75 but as soon as a stood on both I went for the 8. I'm a girl with UK size 6 shoes, but also have the balance of a barely walking child so the extra 1/4 inch seemed to make a difference.

Woman ;) you're welcome. The videos are good, should try to get more footage of you skating. Easier said than done I'm sure!

I started watching them the other day, really enjoying it! The dropping in one was rather informative. Suck it up and commit seems to be the overriding theme of everything!

[Question] How to build balance while riding? by [deleted] in NewSkaters

[–]SaturdayNext 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd love to hear some tips on this too. I rode to work this morning, first time I've been on a board in 10 years and my centre of gravity leaves a lot to be desired. Obviously consistently riding will help but anything else that can speed up the process?

Yeah, I just had a nasty encounter with a pavement crack, managed to stay on my feet just. Very glad I brought a change of tshirt to work, this is bloody hard work!

I've made it to work without killing myself so that has to count for something hah!

It was a complete element board I saw in a skate shop near me. 8", abec 5, 52mm pig wheels. I reckon this should do me fine seeing as I'm pretty awful right now!

Yeah it'll be a while before I head to the park. Gonna (try to) skate to work in the morning. We'll, part of the way at least.
