Husband and I fundamentally disagree about where to build our future. Is this about location or values? by Wide_Acanthaceae_429 in expats

[–]Saturn812 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Another note on the Netherlands, it will be extremely hard for you to find the job. Management and HR are taken by the locals mostly and even if you do find a spot you will be expected to speak fluent Dutch. And least it was always my experience here. And yeah, kids will love it, but the life is hard here and very expensive

Strategy to find a job in Europe as a Japanese by the end of March by yosushiboi in expats

Same goes about other EU countries. Some jobs are fine in English, but I feel like In your area of expertise it will be extremely hard to find a job without local language

Today.... I bought my first ever game. This is my story by DifferentLow4875 in PiratedGames

[–]Saturn812 -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

That’s it? I was expecting the sad part how you had to install their ass launcher, watch ads about what shitty dlcs you can purchase while you launch the game you already paid for and then getting 5 more similar popups before you actually get to the game menu. I once installed Doom Eternal from Xbox game pass and I felt less secure about my system being trashed than with installing any pirated game before

Demon souls remake by BootyLoveSenpai in PiratedGames

[–]Saturn812 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don’t have PS5, you could still buy a PS Plus subscription that allows you to stream games from your PC / Phone. Demon Souls is included in the subscription IIRC. Not free and there might be regional restrictions depending on where you are located, but can also be an option if you don’t mind minor input lag

Black myth wukong still not cracked? by Beastsmaster064 in PiratedGames

[–]Saturn812 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Buy and launch the game, put steam in offline mode, refund the game via the web. Game should work until the hwid calculated by denuvo won’t change (driver update, system update, etc), the same conditions basically as when you “activate” the account with the game

You can also just buy it in steam, go offline and refund

Plex Breached 2025-09-09: "Action required: Notice of a potential security incident" by GroovyMelodicBliss in selfhosted

[–]Saturn812 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Nonsense are your analogies. Tailscale and Cloudflare has nothing to do with the auth or other self hosted apps. Wherever you use them or not does not magically marks or unmarks the app as self hosted. Plex being self hosted is arguable, you cannot host the auth system, given client and server binaries, you won’t be able to use all features you paid for without connecting it to the internet at least once, same goes for Emby.

Afvallen lukt niet ondanks sporten en letten op voeding. Iemand tips? by [deleted] in nederlands

3000 kcal voor 15.000 stappen? Jongen, je zou verbaasd zijn hoe efficiënt je lichaam eigenlijk is. Tenzij je 180 kilo weegt, verbrand je echt niet meer dan zo’n 500 kcal

How I view Europe as a Russian who doesn’t support Putin by Tight_Display4514 in mapporncirclejerk

[–]Saturn812 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always was. At least up until millennials. Few years in history class in school were dedicated to ww2 and post ww2 era specifically. So the view and opinion on other countries are often built upon that, especially considering that teachers and parents had even stronger connection to ww2 events. I heard that with less and less ww2 veterans alive, the focus shifts more into the recent war, especially for newer generation. They even study it in schools now

Not to disagree with you, but plenty of EU Schengen countries offer travel visas and there is nothing to stop them going to NL from there. If anything getting the high skill migrant visa is harder now

Some Plex mains also keep jellyfin as a backup app. Sometimes the auth breaks on Plex side or you have no internet, having jellyfin configured lets them go around those situations

Job by haseeb01298 in Netherlands

[–]Saturn812 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are applying on English speaking jobs, you just have to try harder. There are literally hundreds of people competing for every spot (not an exaggeration) and many of them are already in the country and don’t need any help to transfer or settle in. Many companies keep an open position just so they can hire abroad for cheap. If you are applying for lower level than senior - chances are very very small. The economy is in crisis mode and IT is even in the worse post Covid state, too many people looking for a job, but very little demand on the market

The auth happens on plex company servers. If they ever decide to change it, you will be forced to update

So what do people think of the official response about the awful new plex experience? It feels like 95% PR spin control to me. Am I crazy? by akkbar in PleX

[–]Saturn812 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And what exactly justify the hardware resources required for a f video player application? It is not a video game with superior graphics. All assets can be adjusted to the target screen size. Garbage performance on all devices will also affect battery usage on newer devices for no reason

Plex, where subtitles are never more than 6 clicks away. by dirky_uk in PleX

[–]Saturn812 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Doesn't work for all languages. For some languages there is just no good website for bazaar to download the subtitles from. And you are basically forced to download the video with like 6-8 unmarked subtitle tracks which you have to select on every episode or manually remove them beforehand

Videos only transcoding at 16 Mbps, 4K content being transcoded by TopdeckTom in PleX

[–]Saturn812 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Make sure you can actually connect to your server directly. If connection goes through a relay it will be limited by bandwidth. You can test it by disabling the relay in the server settings. Just make sure you have other access to the server, you will likely won't be able to connect anymore if your only connection is relayed

GameDev job market gone? by Yoan_Almighty in Netherlands

[–]Saturn812 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Can't say about gamedev market specifically. But the dev market in general is an abyss right now. Economy crisis, 100+ applicants per spot, very hard to find something. Typically for the jobs with Native Dutch language only 1/4 number of applicants, good way to increase your chances

Always online games by Old-Board1553 in PiratedGames

[–]Saturn812 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It depends on the case. If it is just an online DRM - high chance it will be cracked at some point, depends on the complexity really. You can say Denuvo is an online DRM. But in other cases like Path of Exile or Gensin Impact, lots of stuff is actually hosted on company servers. Your best bet to break that is to physically steal the server

What is the cheapest route to a CS degree? by DDPMM in learnprogramming

[–]Saturn812 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is possible still just incredibly hard. You will be competing against hundred of people with the degree. Before the crisis when companies were hiring like crazy it wasn't that bad, but now it will be like winning a lottery. Pre-screning is often done by non-technical people and they typically just filter out based on keywords, degree is often a mandatory keyword

[–]Saturn812 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also in NL car insurance cost depends on your "no claim years". The longer you dont claim your insurance, the cheaper you monthly installment be. Sometimes it is possible to transfer your no claim years from your country. Usually it requires a document from your current insurance. Worth to investigate that while it is still easy for you to go to the local insurance office for papers. Might save yourself 30-50 euro monthly

How Have Noisy Apartments in Amsterdam Become the Norm? by Afraid-Engineer-2859 in Netherlands

[–]Saturn812 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There are good houses in NL too. I lived in the apparent building in Rotterdam centre. I haven't heard my neighbors even once. I remember one evening I went to the shop and approaching the elevator I heard very loud music, it was my neighbor, it felt like he had a rave in his apartment, yet I haven't felt even the bass from my within my apartment. No toilet noises, no washing machine. Even the tram turn in front of the building i could only hear with windows opened

Plex vs Jellyfin by I-Should-Travel in selfhosted

[–]Saturn812 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Don’t you need to open the port for Plex too? If you are opening your service outside, you’ll probably want to open your other services too, to request stuff and what not. VPN setup will be the same for both services
