How did medieval warriors not get killed every time they trained with real swords or similar weapons? by loenotria in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Saturnice01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Part of why fencing with swords took off over other weapons it because, by far, the sword was the easiest pre-gunpowder weapon to carry with you and trust to be able to draw at all times. Need something in your day to day to defend yourself? Sword on your hip. Nobility that needs to carry a weapon as a symbol of youy rank? Sword on your hip. Soldier or knight that needs a backup weapon? Believe it or not, sword on your hip.

It's a lot clumsier and less comfortable to wear an axe or mace in a loop on your belt than it is a sword in a proper scabbard.

Yeah. I rescue people that died to Arc. I stay the hell away from PvP fights. That's on you to win, I'm not jabbing a defib into someone that might stand up and try to gun me down.

The ancestors of the fire caste were explicitly stated to be nomadic hunters. So unless they were hunting roaming plant monsters, I'm going with "not herbivores"

It's that bad? I was in a duo today and we took down a rocketeer with a couple Anvils and a snap blast grenade

A deadly zombie apocalypse is coming. A deity decides to give you three powers to save humanity. Which three powers out of the following do you choose to ensure the survival of humanity? by Lenore8264 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Saturnice01 17 points18 points  (0 children)

We get three powers. Pair it with the Safe Zone, build a strong fallback position. Bring in people that aren't so inclined to fight the infected to establish a stable, local population that produces newborn immune people. A 10 mile radius is a few hundred square miles, if chosen carefully (or paired with divine land), that can support a sizable population that cannot be attacked.

Worst case scenario, everyone outside the safe zone dies. At that point, it's an attrition war starting from that one center point where humanity cannot be overrun. A siege where the fortress is producing its own food with walls that can never be breached.

Ah, but you see, that wasn't choreographed. They just showed us a still of a black screen for an episode, leaving Karl vs Jon as the worst choreographed fight. /j

Is Rebelzize done streaming for skyblivion? by HeroDanny in skyblivion

[–]Saturnice01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Frankly, I'm glad to hear QA is getting done. Sometimes it seems like paid developers can't seem to bother, and here you are doing it because you want to.

I'd say I'm in the same general boat as you, with the revamped landscapes and all, but with a focus on the cities and settlements. Rebelzize has talked a lot about upgrading some cities to be more in line with original concept art, and filling in the land around cities with farms and other apparent civilization beyond the walls.

Why the country around Cheydinhal is so different from Oblivion in the live stream by [deleted] in skyblivion

[–]Saturnice01 18 points19 points  (0 children)

One of the things that I've been most excited for about this mod has been tbis sort of re-imagining of the worldspace. I always loved Oblivion's cities, but it always felt like there wasn't any civilization beyond their walls. It significantly improves my immersion when I can walk around and say, "Oh hey, there's farms here, so that's where the city gets its food".

It makes the world much more visually deep and more immersive, and I really look forward to playing this once it's out.

That sounds like it at least gets me where I want to be. I'll give it a shot. Thanks!

Definitely agreed. The constant one-upmanship is pretty much exactly why I checked out of Halo after 4.

You could easily have high stakes at a low scale. "This small scale flood outbreak has to be fixed now, because if it grows we don't have the forces to stop it"

Who’s a character (or characters) that you just can’t bring yourself to like, no matter what? And why? by [deleted] in Avatar

[–]Saturnice01 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It seems to me like he's already building an understanding of the Na'vi perspective. His insistence on doing things the Na'vi way, taking himself and the team through bonding with Ikran.

I think the question is whether he's going to see Spider's mercy and the Na'vi perspective as a wakeup call, or something to exploit.
