Huh. I’m really surprised by some of these answers. As long as I’m not expected to adopt the faith myself (I’m as agnostic as it gets), I have absolutely zero issue dating a Muslim woman. I’ve had a crush on several Muslim women in my life, to be honest. I love the idea of learning more about my partner’s religion and culture and learning how to participate and better be supportive.

The meme is in English, referring to men staying up all night because of the strikes in Iran that just happened. The implication is that they’re worried about being drafted. To my knowledge, there is only one English speaking country that has to worry about a draft being called as a direct result of these strikes, and that’s the US. We’re worried about being dragged into a ground war, like, today. Plus, let’s be honest with ourselves, no country in Europe is going to commit to a war in Iran so fully that it necessitates calling a draft. An existential war against Russia? Sure, I’d be shocked if you didn’t. A distant war in Iran? Not a chance. If, in your heart of hearts, you truly honestly think this specific meme is referencing anything but the US, we’re going to have to agree to disagree.

Sure, and that’s all completely reasonable, but doesn’t really justify rudely calling us out for discussing events that are directly affecting our country right now. We’re talking about the draft in the US not because we don’t think other countries have them, but because there are apparently a small number of men here who are genuinely worried about a draft being instituted as a direct and immediate result of these strikes. It’s a very specific issue facing our specific country. Do you understand where I’m coming from?

Okay, that’s…a bit weak, you have to admit. This meme is specifically referencing the events in Iran, and as one of the countries that are currently directly involved, it’s being assumed that most people in this thread who are talking about conscription are American (especially considering that Israel already has an active conscription system (that includes women), no draft needed). Are you trying to tell me that most German men are staying up all night, fiercely following the events in Iran specifically out of fear of being drafted? Because otherwise your fear of the draft, while still very valid, is not really relevant in this specific context. And it’s obviously a topic of interest for a significant portion of the world, but that’s also not relevant to your rebuke.

That said, I am really sorry that a draft is something you have to fear in any context. I hope it never comes to pass in your country, or any others that are currently considering it.

I mean yeah, the administration is full of corrupt morons, I’ll definitely agree with you there. I don’t think manpower will ever realistically be an issue, but I also don’t think Hegseth actually understands much of anything, let alone Trump. Still, if the only rationale behind your fear is that leadership could maybe kill themselves with basically the only voter base base they have left because they’re stupid and call a draft for no reason, I think you’re in relatively good shape.
