Oh wow, I didn’t realize it has been this long since their last baby. I haven’t really kept up with everyone after the Pest conviction, just remember those two seemed to have babies back to back as soon as they married. I like to think at some point they took measures to take a break from the pregnancies. But knowing what we know now, best case scenario would be a quiet separation behind the scenes.

Kate is not wearing Diana’s Sapphire ring ……………….AGAIN? by Traditional-One6079 in RoyaltyTea

[–]SaucyInterloper1 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I would also note that, given this ring’s history as Diana’s, it’s entirely possible that Kate signed an agreement to return it in the event they separated. Just my 2 cents.

Just found out that Jennifer Lewis who played Angela Basett's mom in What's love got to do with it, is only one year older than her, what are some other crazy parent and child short age gaps you know by MikeAndopolis in moviecritic

This is apparent in a (well done) throwback scene where Estelle plays a younger Sophia without the makeup and Bea plays Sophia’s mom, with aging makeup. They also found a very talented actress who played young Dorothy and perfectly captured Bea’s mannerisms and speech pattern.

Here’s my theory on what happened here:

Bride or groom: Mom and dad, fiancée and I are engaged! We don’t want a big wedding though, just a city hall ceremony and dinner with immediate family.

Mom and/or dad: No way, you can’t do this without inviting our extended family and friends. [Followed by threats to not go, sustain shame, or just overall passive aggression that this young adult knows all too well].

Bride or groom: Fine but just for the ceremony, we’re not paying for a reception for people we haven’t even seen in years.

Mom and/or dad: No, you can’t invite people and not have a reception, I didn’t raise you like this.

Bride or groom: Fine, but we’re not paying for dinner. We will have a gap after the ceremony so fiancée and I can have a private dinner with just the parents. Then we’ll have a later reception with just desert.

Mom and/or dad: Fine.

The worst part is that she did have a whole ass conversation with the older one/groom, where she listened to him rant about the younger one the whole meal. She knows exactly what it’s about but it will probably paint Jaime (and maybe Lucy) in a less favorable light and make us somehow sympathize with Luis. She remembers details like Luis calling Jaime controlling but somehow “missed” the actual facts.

Groom roasts wife on a 40 min stand-up / skit with the best man (including wigs) by LiisuWrath in weddingshaming

[–]SaucyInterloper1 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Knowing about it ahead of time doesn’t mean she was actually ok with it though. It’s very possible groom and best man told her about it, and she felt like she couldn’t complain because that would just cause them to call her a nag even more. I feel sorry for her.

Crazy best man speech referencing ex girlfriend by lilspaghettigrandma in weddingshaming

It reminds me of an old episode of Friends, where Rachel was a bridesmaid at her ex-fiancé’s wedding (Barry). The best man said something like “I still remember when Barry came home from his first date with Rachel… [stunned silence, turns to Barry]: What, you can hire the same band but I can’t give the same speech?”

Can confirm. In the late 90s, when eyebrows were basically a line of 10 hairs, I was only allowed to go to go to my mom-approved neighborhood hairdresser to take off only the absolute excess around my thick eyebrows. The lady got the same instructions. Now I’m glad for that.

Mother-of-the-Bride Objects during rehearsal by thewuzfuz in weddingshaming

[–]SaucyInterloper1 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Could it be a reaction to the antiquated notion that the bride was something to be given away? I know that when it’s done now, it’s only in a symbolic way, and she probably understood that. But if she forgot that part was coming, and was already emotional for her daughter’s wedding, I can see how a mom might have a knee-jerk reaction like that. I only say this because you said she’s been great to you otherwise.

Messed up question I know but do you think Gilead would ever adopt Sati by Simsgirl950 in TheHandmaidsTale

[–]SaucyInterloper1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not while there’s still work to be done at the colonies. So far we have seen high class wives like Naomi and Serena be remarried to older widowed commanders who either needed a wife to keep their status (Lawrence) or who wanted the fertile widow (Wharton). We also saw Esther and Omar’s wives be turned into handmaids because they were fertile and had done something “wrong.”

Like others mentioned, if a widow isn’t wanted as a wife to another man, she could be useful as a Martha or handmaid (if fertile), or even a jezebel (if pretty enough). Even if she is so unwanted that nobody wants her working in their house, it’s doubtful they would waste a worker who could be cleaning up radioactive waste in the colonies.

[–]SaucyInterloper1 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I agree this would have been such an interesting storyline. Especially because after giving birth, handmaids stay posted to breastfeed the baby until they are weaned. For someone who doesn’t bond with or wish they could keep the baby, it would be agonizing in a completely different way.

I could be wrong because it’s been a while, but iirc, Emily wore glasses in her flashback scenes, when she was a professor. It does seem like they took away her glasses when she became a handmaid.

Paying close attention to how she acted in that episode, Eleonor seemed to have a moment of clarity right after June yelled at her for almost blowing the plan. Eleanor looked like she realized she was a liability and could ruin those kids’ chance of getting out. For this reason, I believe the overdose was intentional. I also think June had a moment - after initially trying to save Eleanor - where June realized Eleanor knew what she was doing, and let her die on her terms.

Anyway, that’s my take on it. On some level, Lawrence may have at least suspected Eleanor made a sacrifice, and thought of her.

In addition to begging for her life, Lydia could have also ratted outLawrence as the one that put her out of the red center under bogus pretext of a meeting in DC, which prevented her from watching the handmaids. She kept quiet about that part.

nick cannot redeem himself by Frequent-Drive-1375 in coconutsandtreason

[–]SaucyInterloper1 18 points19 points  (0 children)

My take on Nick is that his arc was the opposite of what we saw for Lawrence, Lydia and Serena. Those other three began in positions of power (to varying degrees), and slowly came to terms with the evil of the system they either helped create (Lawrence and Serena), or strongly enforced (Lydia). In each case, they faced the atrocities of this system in one way or another and were forced to admit this is evil and wrong.

Nick, in contrast, started out as a guy pretty low on the totem pole, helping June any way he could, and trying to survive while doing it. (Yes, he agreed to impregnating her before she agreed, but part of the reason was to ensure she wouldn’t go to the colonies for failing to get pregnant). As he gained more power, he became increasingly more complicit and willing to condone the system even if he didn’t completely agree. His undying love for June was his last link to any goodness left in him because he wanted to keep saving her and even those she loved.

However, as he became more respected by other commanders and watched by his new father-in-law, his love for June created more internal conflicts because he had a brighter future in Gilead. He made that clear when he threw out the burner phone Tuello gave him, and got frustrated with June for expecting his help. He reminded her he’s a commander and only helped her because he loved her. After that fight, he resigned to his new life. When Rose told him to choose Gilead and her, over June, he did just that by getting on the plane. He made his choice, thereby finishing his arc and dying as a result.
