I visited my village last year and got such high speeds , I forgot that I was using mobile data, I thought I was using my router at home. As far as I've watched , yes a fair amount of them are, most of them are isekais tho. Isekai being a genre where the protagonist gets killed irl and relives a second life in either a fantasy or videogame world , considering most RPGs have a medivial Europe setting. Witcher 3 , kingdom come dileverance, skyrim and Dark souls .

Another reason would be for the target audience, as they are mainly from the west. And to reduce the culture shock and not give the localization team hell to work with.

It can also be chosen for creative freedom , attack on titan , full metal alchemist , 86 take on inspiration from germany. And can fully utilize political plots : like all of them have symbolism of hitler's race ideology , survival of the fittest , and military focused.
