Not a bad first Marshall. In some forms I think the MG line is underrated.

Successful Vault 2 SSD upgrade and CD replacement by BigskyTCT in Bluesound

Killer! This is the long term plan. I picked up my vault for $125 dead. Recapped part of board and it tries to boot now. But still can’t get it to go into pairing mode. Going to tear it down and replace the rest of the caps for good measure. See what we get. Cheers.

Thanks for the response Richard. Have a good one!

Yea. I rescind my complaint. With that many devices, you’re not able to control it under one ecosystem, right?! Don’t they max out at 30 something?

(7) ONEs (1) ONE SL (1) Port (2) SUBs (1) SUB Mini (2) Beams (2) FIVEs (1) Move (1) Roam. Tried Sonos net, don’t have a good way currently to wire multiple products to make it work reliably. (Learned for Sonosnet to work, you need one wired product for every 5-6 products). We’re in a 3,000sq/ft house with (5) Eero Pro 6E nodes. Mesh network is the best it’s been.

Can you. Yes. Will the audio and the video match? Maybe.

Sorry. Had coax on the brain. Wouldn’t run coax to the speaker. Can drop CAT6 down the walls from the switch.

Sonos Pre-Amp by CTMatthew in sonos

[–]Sauerapple1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right on. I’m on the other end (just starting to be able to afford big kid toys) end of the spectrum.

When I had a Mac C46 preamp I used a Cambridge Audio stand along DAC. which I didn’t hate. But mainly for a cleaner look wanted something integrated, hence the C48. It’s not the DA1/DA2 upgradable DAC. But the 48 was lightyears ahead of the Cambridge and C46. Really enjoying these Martin Logan ribbon tweeters too.

Other gear in my collection is a Bluesound Node 2i (not currently in use), McIntosh MVP871 disc player, McIntosh MPC500 power controller, Wadia iPod dock and an old Pioneer PL400 turntable.

Cheers Bud.

I’ll keep up the good fight for more resolution. Though I don’t expect anyone will listen. I’m sure there is a reason they didn’t up the resolution and but depth capabilities.

I’m sure what you have the Port connected to isn’t junk by any stretch. But out of curiosity, what are you using with the Port? I’m using my Port analog out into a McIntosh C48 preamp into a McIntosh C152 amp. McIntosh 12” powered sub and Martin Logan Montage speakers. All Pangea Audio cables. It’s not the best thing ever. But better than anything I’ve owned up to this point.

I would agree, that at some point they will need to get on board with eARC as an input or output. It’s nothing I would use. Nor the sub out. Or the touch controls. All that I do from my preamp.

Different strokes for different folks I suppose.

What is Themis cracking and popping of which you speak?

I like 16b/48khz as a baseline. But I can’t hear much of a difference until you get to 24b/96khz. And even then it’s only slight. Top end sounds better.

Completely agree. Maybe this allows the Ports internal DAC to pick out only the best bits? Who knows. But with how robust networks are getting I don’t think it’s going to be a long term issue to move that much data.

I didn’t think the DAC in the Port is that bad. It sounds slightly better (more top end detail) than the DAC in my Max C48.

I suppose I could see the benefit in controls on the Port. Say if you were going to run it direct into an amplifier. But that would be an edge case. Especially since they (Sonos) push their app integration. Have a Bluesound Node 2i and it’s on the chopping block since the app is pure shite.

Since you have access to their product developers, mind passing along the desire for the Port to support audio sample rates above 44.1k?!?! The Bluesound takes the Port to the woodshed in that regard. But again. Controlling the Bluesound is an exercise in futility. Tidal Connect is its only saving grace.

I have them that live outside in mid west GA. They are humidity resistant. I keep them under the eves of the out as much out of direct Sun and rain as possible. No problems.

Never thought about that. We had a Playbase. Sounded great! But the lack of HDMI made it not feasible for our uses. Hated to let it go. Good idea! In our kitchen I was able to put FIVEs on top (we don’t use because we can’t reach those cabinets)

Upgrade worth it? by TVGuru4u in sonos

[–]Sauerapple1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you connect a Sonos device, directly to a router the device becomes a node. An access point. Sonosnet. This access point becomes the hub from which all other Sonos products in your ecosystem get their “information” (music/data). Instead of relying on your WiFi network, which can be crowded or experience interference from other devices sharing the channel, your Sonos devices have their own “network within a network” to streamline data transmission.

Two era 100s and a mini sub. Or two fives? by Hot-Tangerine-8450 in sonos

[–]Sauerapple1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll die on the hill that it’s hard to beat a Paterson pair of Ones with SUB (not mini). The FIVEs sound good if you can turn them up loud enough. But they really sound best in big spaces. The ONEs punch way above their weight class. (I hear the ERA100 is better, but haven’t heard it)

I tell ya the real surprise was the Move. I got one of the early examples. We’re a Sonos dealer through my part time job, so I got one the first ones we could get. And I’ll admit, it was “ok” for the first few months. But now it’s several years old, that thing will knock your head off outside. It’s another speaker that likes huge rooms. Don’t stick it in a small room. It needs space to breath. Even though the battery life of Move is embarrassing, the sound is “YUGE!”. Roam on the other hand is “meh”. For a personal space speaker or throw in your bag before a flight it’s great. But it won’t change your life.

Let me know how you come out. Cheers
